Uncle Bob’s Self Storage

My son was moving back into our house and had just a few items of furniture but it was enough that they would not fit in our house. He had a desk that was under 5′ long, a double bed, a small table and 4 table chairs. A 5′ by 10 ’ space seemed like overkill. I did find several for around $ 45 and almost went that way but I saw a 5′ by 5′ space advertised at Uncle Bob’s for $ 32. That seemed like a good deal. They also have a truck you can use for free so I reserved the truck. We went to Uncle Bob’s the morning of the move and the desk person asked if this space would be big enough. She suggested we look at it. It’s a good thing she did because this space is not 5′ by 5′. It is 4′ 2″ by 4′ 2″. I know because I measured it with a tape measure. That’s not close to 5′ by 5′. The items we had would have fit in 5′ by 5′ but would not fit in the smaller space. I asked how much the larger space was and was told $ 50… plus a mandatory $ 9 insurance. I would have left at that point but my son had no other truck reserved and had to be out that day. I took the deal and paid for 3 months up front. As I expected this space was way more than we needed but we really did not have much choice. I have to say the person at the desk was understanding about the whole thing and dropped some fees etc. but the issue is this is a clear case of bait and switch. You advertise what appears to be a good deal and then when it invariably doesn’t work for the person who needs storage you step them up to a space that is overpriced for the local market. Needless to say I would not do this again. If you’re going to do something like this check the place out well in advance. If it doesn’t meet your needs, leave and go someplace else.

Great experience. I was not rushed. Peg explained everything to me in detail. Very kind! I would recommend these guys to anyone. Plus the rates are cheaper than other places around. I was also given a military discount which is always appreciated.
