Mel’s Sweet Cakes and Lemon Shakes

Mel’s Sweet Cakes and Lemon Shakes is a street vendor selling lemonade, funnel cakes and other fried goodies. They travel around to various festivals, are recognizable by their bright orange tent, and always have good things at reasonable prices. Recently they teamed up with a local vendor to offer real barbeque; this was genius! The barbecue is all beautifully smoked, very delicious and will make you need seconds. I tasted pulled pork, ribs and brisket. All were moist, with good smoke flavor and a great crust. Ribs were very tender. There is also a smoked sausage offered sometimes which I haven’t tasted. The sauces offered (mild, hot and stupid hot) were also very good, but honestly, the meats didn’t even need it.
Funnel cakes are also offered with various toppings — obviously yummy! — and the fried oreos are addictive. They serve lemonade, and you can add a variety of flavors to it that are also good — mango is my favorite!
I am hoping they will add some side dishes — apparently this is under consideration.
Currently they are parked off of Front Street, right down from The Glass Lounge — not sure if this is permanent, or just this weekend’s stop. I will be watching Twitter to see where they go!
