It was a nice ride that showed the environment on the outskirts of the island and the interior. We saw a ground hog in the grass. I also saw where the miniature golf is, which made the ride a nice intro to the island. Whenever the we went through a crossing the driver had to blow a very loud steam whistle. I had to cover my ears.

What a disappointment. I took my family that was visiting from out of town here. I thought my 3 year old sister-in-law would enjoy the train. The sign said they open at noon so we arrived at noon. The staff did not arrive to open the little store/railroad until 12:10. The staff could see us standing there waiting but moved SO slowly. We were the only ones there and they did not take us on the train ride until 12:32. A little ridiculous considering the entire ride took about 3 minutes. The staff was rude too. Also asked if we wanted to ride the train or the trolley. I told him the train and then proceeded to put us on the trolley(enclosed) and didn’t explain why or talk to us at all. It was seriously so lame I was embarrassed I brought out of towners here. NOT worth your time or money. Also the carousel was not even open. If you want to see the tiny island you are better off walking. at least you can take pictures that way.

We accidentally found City Island on a Saturday evening. City Island is a neat concept as it is park on an island in the middle of the river in the middle of an urban area. You can get to the Island by car or by walking over the pedestrian bridge from the east side of Harrisburg on Walnut Bridge. The Island has a miniature golf course, horse and buggies, a narrow gauge train that goes around the island, batting cage, an arcade, a river boat and a minor league baseball stadium for the Nationals farm club. It is a neat place for the family to spend some quality time and relatively cheap entertainment. It is operated by the Harrisburg Parks Department and some of the items could use some preventative maintainance, but overall not too bad. We enjoyed our time on the Island and our walk over Walnut Bridge.

Interesting little train ride on City Island. The Price is still $ 3.00 for adults and $ 2.00 for children and you get a nice ride around the perimeter of the Island giving you a good view of the Susquehanna and of the activities on the Island.

Just wanted to post that the City Island Railroad is still open. It did not close down as the previous review stated.

It’s a small yellow and red train that has a little souvenir stand where you can buy batteries, candy, ice cream, stuff like that. The train ride only costs 3 dollars for adults and 2 dollars for kids. It’s not really fast or anything, but something cool to do. Everyone loves train rides right? visit it! Also there is a small older Carousel nearby(1.50 per rider) worth checking out.
