Amber, Amber, Amber… If I clone you I would open a restaurant and hire 10 of you. She was a trainee but omg she was soooo nice. She let me know she was training but she never said«I don’t know» she checked in us without smothering us. Her trainee was nice as well, she was in sight but backed away to let amber lead. They are building a great team. I spoke to the manager, well he spoke to me, well he spoke to everyone. The good took a little long but they offered us some fries while we waited. I had a guac burger, well seasoned and juicy…

Wow, I had always heard this was a premium fast food place. But I was surprised to find it quite the opposite. My order was taken by someone who managed to be both rude and disinterested, and I was served by someone who didn’t even speak to me, just pushed my food through the window and was already looking away as it closed. I ordered a single combo. It was pictured on the menu with lettuce and tomato. What I got was a tiny, over cooked patty with cheese, on a small bun. No condiments, no vegetables. If it’s the policy of this place to only put on a burger what you ask for, they might consider telling you that when you order. The service was horrible and the food wasn’t any better. Never again.

1 star because there is nothing less. Went there as a last time attempt to find something good about the place. Past experience has been slow service and dirty tables. Today I entered and waited to be seated as the sign says. After 3 – 4 minutes a woman of attitude came toward the waiting area. She asked if I was to go, like dining in wasn’t an option. When I said dining in she rolled her eyes so hard her head rolled. She grabbed a menu and came over and asked if I would sit at the bar, it’s a counter not a bar. I asked not to so she threw the menu at the closest table and said fine sit there and walked away back to her conversation I disturbed. Since there was 1 other person inside and 2 cars in the drive through at 1245, I probably disturbed their lunch rush. Deciding that was enough attitude I didn’t wait. That was my last time!!!

The lack of motivation from any employees working is nonexistent. tables are dirty, ketchup and mustard containers need cleaned, floors are horrendous. This is the worst location I have ever been to and I will not be returning. We waited 10 min to be seated and there was no wait and waited another 10 before the server showed up. Horrible service and uclncean.

So… when I lived in Orlando, S&S was one of my favs. But this one in Hampton is pretty pathetic. The food is so-so, that’s when you finally get it! The wait staff(aptly named, because you are going to wait) are deplorable. They don’t work together well and don’t seem to care about their customers. I ended up tipping a waitress that wasn’t ours because she was way more helpful than the person who was supposed to be waiting on us. So unless you are seriously jonesing for some S&S, save your money and go somewhere… anywhere else!

It was 830 and the drive thru was empty. first time I’ve ever had an opportunity to go through with an empty drive thru! The first two times I’ve been here the wait was nearly 2 hours and a half a tank of gas. The food isn’t worth it. I pulled up and the woman in the speaker shouts, ‘PLEASEWAIT A MINUTE’. I kindly said okay and looked at the menu as I needed a moment to look over it any way. I hadn’t been there in over a year. While looking my 3 year old is talking in my car and I respond back to him(I want a cheeseburger please and I say okay we will get you a cheeseburger) and all of sudden the worker on the speaker SCREAMS at me, «MA’AM. I TOLDYOUTOWAIT A MINUTE I AMREALLYBUSYRIGHTNOWAND I DONTHAVETIMETOTAKEYOURORDER. CANYOUWAIT» … I left. When I passed the drive through window there were 3 people gathered around(one has a headset) and 2 were on cell phones chatting. Real busy it looked. Definitely am not coming back. I consider myself a calm and defender of those who treat fast food workers, severs, etc badly. I am forever sticking up for people who work these jobs but on this night I really really wanted to rip into this worker for being so rude when I was not even speaking to her. This place is going to get shut down in the next few years. I never hear anyone speak well of it.

No feelings of urgency from any of the half dozen employees sitting around doing nothing. If the dining room is full and the drive thru line is wrapped around the building, your employees should not be standing around. The manager was visible, but not managing. He was serving. Numerous tables around ours sent food back for being made incorrectly, so I should not have been surprised when we had to do the same. The prices are great, but the quality of food was so poor, I’m not sure it was quite worth it. It most certainly was not worth the 90+ minutes it took us to get in and out.

After waiting almost a year for a return visit I find myself right back where I started. I cannot upgrade them, but will not downgrade either. On a Sunday night visit around 9PM my son and I walked in and found the place almost dead with only about three tables occupied. However, you could tell that a massacre had happen just before we entered. The counter was littered with dirty dished and so were many of the tables. Trash was on the floor and it just looked awful. A hostess, who turned out to be the only waitress seated us. I immediately told her we were in a hurry. Menus were placed, but I could tell she would not be back for a while and was dealing with the other tables and confirmed she was the only waitress on the floor. The manager was clearing tables and another employee was assisting. They were digging out after a big rush, so I was trying to be somewhat sympathetic. But at the end of they day I had a kid that needed to get home from a long swim weekend and was starved. So I asked if there was someone who could expedite and they did have a young woman working counter come around. She took our orders and was polite. The shakes came out in around 10 minutes, not bad. They tasted great, but no napkins and no long spoons. She gave us short little plastic ones. I asked for replacements and napkins which were taken care of quickly. The food was out in around 20 minutes, not bad, but considering how slow I was hoping for faster service from the kitchen. My son’s was fine. Mine had mustard which I specifically said none. It had a lot of mustard and with being in a hurry and no one around I dealt with it. I also dealt with the over cooked fries. When checking out the manager did ask how everything was and I told him about the meal. He took off the entire meal portion off an apologized. That got them to remain at a 2 and was appreciated. However, it still was no a service that I can bring to a 3 and I am disappointed this location continues to struggle. They still have problems and I cannot return anytime soon. Staffing was an obvious issue. Slow kitchen and dirty dining room are not good signs of great management. But I will say the manager did go above what was necessary and that was appreciated.

First things first: I am a HUGE Steak and Shake fan. I am also a 19-year Senior Chief Culinary Specialist in the US Navy, serving everyone from the detainees of Guantanamo Bay, to high-ranking government officials in the Pentagon. Now to the complaining: I had previously visited the Hampton, Virginia restaurant after it had first opened. The experience was OK, but I chalked it up to training and experience and figured things would get better with time. Tonight I went to with my family to the same Hampton restaurant. Here is how this transpired: Nearly the entire dining room was empty, but we were seated in the smallest booth with the narrowest space to fit into our seats. I had to move the booths part just to be comfortable. I really thought nothing of it at first. Next, the waitress, who was really polite, handed us our silverware rolls. Two of them looked extremely dirty, she apologized and replaced them promptly with more dirty napkins. The floors were made of Crisco. I order the drinks, including a child-sized sweet tea for my 2 year old daughter. It looked like a combination of mold and old tea leaves in the glass. I brought it to a manager. He took it from me, no apology. The waitress brought a new one, apologized. I ordered a patty melt. When I received it, I opened it up and noticed that it contained less than 2 pattys. The fries looked and tasted like they had been fried 10 minutes earlier. I handed it to the waitress and asked for nothing in return. I could not eat it. The salty enraged Sailor in me began to awaken. My son’s sliders were not what he ordered, wrong toppings. Waitress took them back. She brought back the correct sliders 10 minutes later. They were not even busy. My wife ordered a salad with her burger. The salad was topped with cabbage that was old and rusted. She asked for a new one. The cabbage was the same on the next salad. Wife took all of the cabbage off herself and could not finish the salad. Her burger was fine. The waitress, like I said above, was polite. The manager tried to talk to me. I explained that if I fed this quality of food to the detainees of GITMO, I would be put under investigation by the Inspector General and be fired. He took care of our bill and handed me two $ 5 coupons. Anyone want these coupons? I have a personal rule that if the food was less than $ 5, I cannot get angry because it is $ 5., but this was a Niagara Falls of errors. I was truly angry and felt disrespected. I also feel that if the waitress truly cared for her customers, she would have QA’ed at least the beverage for my 2 year old. For these reasons, I will never visit this restaurant again and not recommend it to others. Also, I was in my Navy uniform.

Came here during the middle of lunch rush Monday, and for the first time at a Steak n’ Shake, I was in and out quick. I ordered the Triple Steakburger(probably 4−6oz of beef) with cheese and fries. Fries are shoestring style, a little thin to eat by hand in my opinion, but taste great. The burger itself is great, definitely seasoned just right. The cherry Coke was also great. Overall, this one is much better than the Virginia Beach location, and I will definitely be back.

Not the best service today. Not sure who’s to blame but, after we did get our food. The waitress never stopped back by even though she knew we were ordering shakes after we ate. Our drinks were never refilled. We never got side condiments we had requested. We were not asked how the food was, if we needed ANYTHING. Ahh, napkins, refills? I do enjoy going here but service was not so good today. However our food order was accurate, hot and everything we ordered(minus a side of blue cheese). I will be back I’m hoping it was a just the crew working on a Thursday or the afternoon crew. The manager never even stopped by, guilty much? Finished our meal off with some milkshakes. Half off Monday — Friday! Not too impressed with those either. I had a lot of ice chips in my shake and my husband’s was a weird consistency. We didn’t complain… and will be back BUT today was not a good day at Steak and Shake.

The food is good but the service suck and they are S-L-O-W. I have gone here at different times and even when the restaurant is empty, they still are slow. Once we got seated, we had to wait about 10 – 15 min for our waitress(mind you, there was only two other families there) We placed a drink order and we didn’t get it at least 10 min later(maybe longer). Food is decent but nothing to wait around for. Hopefully these guys will pick up their speed and improve the place.

This place… Smh… Has such potential. Because the food is yummy and the restaurant is 50’s kitsch and lively. UNFORTUNATELY… the service is SO craptacular that I will NEVER dine in again. I walked in this joint, and it’s brand spanking new to Hampton, so of course in Hampton roads when ANYTHING is new there’s a ton of ppl. Not here. Drive thru was crazy, inside tho, it was normal. I walked in and the table of «on break“employees just stared at me until I said, well I guess I’ll seat myself. Then someone followed me to the table. Several ppl took my order, and several ppl forgot something each time. Patty melt, wrong fries, right food, forgot coke, milkshake … what milk shake? The menu is cool, so affordable and the food is GOOD. Great Patty melt and sea salt and cracked pepper fries! The staff is the downfall. EVERYONE except for the well meaning but visibly overwhelmed manager is not old enough to drink but they clearly drink anyway because that sluggish, no hustle, teenage thing is ABUNDANT in here. Not that they weren’t nice. Just looked like they were playing rock paper scissors to see who had to get up from the center table and take an order. Dine in fast food took over an hour in total. I ordered a shake… it took 17 mins to get. REAALLLLYYYYYY? Smh tasted good but WHO the frick cares after 20 mins? It’s ice cream and milk not splitting atoms in Helsinki. Anyhoo, I won’t be back to this location. :(If you bother, I’d say drive thru only and expect a wait. **HONORABLEMENTION to John the manager who apologized profusely for his staff and doubled as manager and waiter, poor guy. My shake and coke was comp’d to make amends for the slow service** Smh
