Went here this past weekend with some friends for a girl’s weekend. Stopped by for a quick wine tasting. The elderly woman helping us was very knowledge and nice little slow but we weren’t in a rush so it was all good. The wine selection for tasting was a good size. So what started out like a good time kinda ended on a sour note when we were getting ready to pay/leave my friends and I were laughing having a good time which is what I would think all wine tasting places would want from their patrons but in this case the elderly lady asked us to keep it down due to a man with 2 sleeping babies was right outside and that he really needed his glass of wine. REALLY?! Did she really just say this to us lol My friends and I were kinda in shock like you shouldn’t even have babies at a wine tasting and we just spent way more than that man having 1 glass of wine not saying we should be able to do whatever we want but hello you’d rather upset 4 patrons then maybe upset 1 that shouldn’t have even brought 2 infants here in the first place? I was over this place and ready to leave so all in all I don’t think I will be returning back here,

Charming little winery with garden area for tasting. Special and award winning wines, including sparkling and dessert wines. The owners are very friendly and generous with the tastings. Recommend to stop by when stolling on main Street in Half Moon Bay.

This place was so cute! The wine was great and they older couple that run the tasting room were so sweet and funny. The artisan infused olive oil they sell is also excellent. If I had room in my suitcase I would have bought a bottle or two.

Stayed in HMB for the weekend and stopped here. Saw it on the map. $ 15 a piece for tasting kinda steep for a cheapskate like me but the wine was very good and the pours weren’t skimpy. So I was happy when I left there with a bottle of wine and a buzz. They had so kind of orange italian desert wine which was outstanding. will definitely be back.

An absolute gem of a find. First, I’m not exactly a wine connoisseur, mostly because I find wines bitter and painful to drink. That is, until I found this place, and learned that there can indeed be wine that is neither bitter nor painful to drink. Their most expensive tasting(the $ 25 reserve red wine tasting) had the best red wines I’d ever had, including their award winning 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2012 Pinot Noir, as well as their 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon(not award winning, but still amazing). They were sweet, rich, sat on the palate nicely afterwards, and had just about zero burn. As the owner explained to us, this is apparently because they use juice pressed from grapes by a bladder, as opposed to mashed on by machines which grind up the seeds and give(cheap) wine that horrible bitter taste. We also had their dessert wine tasting, which included the elegancia port(amazing), chocolate dessert wine(who knew you could combine two amazing things in one?), and the lua laranja(a bit sweet for me, but still quite good, especially with the biscotti they provide). The dessert wine tasting was a little cheaper($ 20) and also came with a great passion fruit licorice candy concoction. All this was served in an adorable storefront, with a courtyard outside, or a little sunroom inside, for you to enjoy your tasting in. They also sell a smörgåsbord of olive oils, crackers, and artisan chocolates, along with their fabulous wines. Their most expensive bottle was about $ 125(the 2009 Cabernet), and is easily just as good, if not better(and cheaper) than other pricier wines I’ve had. Not only are the wines here amazing, the owners are lovely: we had a great time chatting with him and learning about his wine making process, and you could tell he was very proud of what he’s produced, as well as the adorable store he’s put together. He also gave us extra tastings of some of his best wines, and I’m pretty sure wound up undercharging us(despite us trying to correct him). With the combination of excellent wine at reasonable prices, and a homey but elegant atmosphere, this winery is definitely a place I’ll be returning to the next time I’m in town.

What a great day to sip wine and have a fun time with work friends. I love Moscato and it was so delicious that I even purchased a couple bottles with some amazing chocolate. Yum…

What a delightful winery. The family is so friendly & informative. The wines are delicious and the tasting pours are generous. Buy a bottle and sit out in the lovely courtyard. It makes for a delightful afternoon.

The husband and wife run this place. Very sweet couple. I love the Whites, their Ruby Cabernet and their desert wine is good. If you like chocolate you will love their desert wine. We end up buying 2 bottles. I would have gave them 5 stars but I think the place just needs to be cleaned up. The art gallery they own is very nice, I just wish that was the actual Winery.

Nice wine tasting room. and a helpful staff, I only give 3 stars due to the wines not being something we did like. now keep in mind wines are all subjective, but for those that like the places I said were good then to follow that tradtion. this is a 3 star… great olive oil selection

My husband and I popped in to taste a few wines. It appeared that the owners were in the store as they were chatting to each other. They totally ignored us. I don’t know if it was an oversight, or they chose to do this. This is not very welcoming. We left after browsing the shelves for about 5 minutes.

Barterra had a great staff that helped a beer drinker like me really appreciate wine. we had a group of 4 for a tasting and I tried whites. One was so good a bought a couple bottles(at $ 30 each) which is much more than I typically pay. They had some great olive oils too that I walked away with(500mL for $ 15) which was a steal for an infused local olive oil. I’ll be back and we’re actually thinking about joining.

I have never had such a fun tasting experience. We stumbled upon it while walking around Main Street and thought what the heck. Left with 6 bottles and became wine club members. Some of the best wines we’ve tried and the owner was delightful! Can’t wait to see what wine is selected for the club. Pinot Nior was amazing, and I’ve never found port to be something I cared for until I had their chocolate!!!

Nice wines but pricey. We’re spoiled by having Amador & Clarksburg in our backyard & so we expect a lot out of our wine. The owners were lovely & the shop is in a very cute building right on Main St.

Barterra is a quaint wine-tasting room along the main street. The staff is friendly and they know their stuff when it comes to wine. The standard wine tasting allows you to sample three wines, but the owner let me try an additional port, and it was really good! The best part had to be that I was served almonds, chocolate, and biscotti during the tasting. The biscotti were so good that we ended up buying a bag of them to take home. The downside to this tasting room is that the price is a bit steep for only getting to sample three wines during the tasting. Then again, we had just come from La Nebbia where it’s $ 10 for 10. Regardless, it was fun to try this place out since we had never been here before.

4.5. Stopped in to do some wine tasting during a weekend getaway in Half Moon Bay and was pleasantly surprised. Very cute tasting room and patio in downtown HMB. I believe the woman who poured for us was named Mary(or perhaps that was the owner’s name) and she was very nice and we chatted a bit. $ 15 tasting fee which gets waived if you purchase 2 bottles. The tasting includes 4 tastes of your choice. I tried the 2010 Chardonnay($ 45/bottle) and it was decent. Then tried the 2007 Primativo(a Zin,$ 38/bottle) and it was delicious. My boyfriend tried the 2006 New Departure Pinot Noir($ 30/bottle) which was equally tasty. We also tried some of their award-winning cabs, which, while excellent, were quite expensive and out of our price range. We decided on a bottle of the Primativo and a bottle of the Pinot. They also have some gourmet food items for sale, including flavored olive oils they had out for sampling. We bought a bottle of the garlic oil(also delicious were the basil, rosemary, and jalapeño oils). The only reason why this is 4.5 and not a full 5 stars is that only one of the tasting fees was waived even though we bought two bottles of wine and a bottle of olive oil. When my boyfriend and I asked how much the tasting fee was upon walking in and were told«$ 15 each but it’s waived if you buy 2 bottles,» I thought that meant that if the two of us bought 2 bottles collectively, both tasting fees would be waived. That’s what has happened at every other winery I’ve been to where just the two of us are tasting. Minor annoyance. BUT, Unilocal has a $ 15 for $ 25 deal for this place(and you can only use this once, so don’t purchase it multiple times unless you plan on returning) so this nearly canceled out the second tasting fee anyway. Both women were very nice and fun to chat with and after we paid the owner poured us each a small glass of champagne(the remnant’s of an open bottle) since it was my boyfriend’s 30th birthday. It was a nice gesture. Overall it was a great experience and I highly recommend a visit if you’re in HMB.

I love, love, love wine and I love, love, this winery. The owners are so nice and friendly and well the wine is excellent by far all of the reds were so, so good. Please, check this winery out if you are a fan of wine. I trust you will enjoy and will not be disappointed. I am a fan that I decided to join their wine club.

Discovered Barterra Winery through a zozi deal for a wine tasting with chocolates! I called to make a reservation but was told that a reservation wasn’t required. We arrived at 5:20pm on a Saturday night. It was very quiet in the little shop and no one was around so we waited a few minutes. Right when we decided to leave a lady finally came out she said that their last pour was at 5pm, even though they close at 6pm. She almost didn’t want to serve us but we asked her if she’d be able to make an exception since we were from out of town and it was my boyfriend’s birthday. After a bit of hesitation she caved and allowed us to do a tasting, however, there were no chocolates though :(At least we each had four tastings and she let us choose between red and white. The wines were pretty good and her pours pretty decent. She gave a short explanation of each wine we tried and answered questions we gave her so it really wasn’t all that bad. There were no chocolates but there were crackers and almonds. In the end, we bought a bottle of sparkling wine to make up for making her pour after 5:30pm. We might come back if we’re in the area again to give them a second chance but maybe we’ll try to come earlier in the day as opposed to at the end, when most people would be kind of tired and ready to go home.

A bit pricy for tasting($ 15/four) but as we were enjoying a bottle of their pinot noir at a dinner party last weekend, we decided that we needed to return sometime soon so we could pick up a whole case. The tasting was a nice experience with complimentary snacks, olive oil tastings, and friendly staff who didn’t rush us even though we arrived close to their closing time. They encouraged us to enjoy our wine outside in their patio area and one of our tasting fees was waived since we purchased a bottle. We also picked up a bottle of white truffle oil for my parents as a thank you for watching our cat for the weekend.

Stumbled upon this family owned winery via Unilocal. My girlfriends and I were looking for a midweek wine tasting girls day out that’s not too far from San Francisco. Very cute intimate place. Mary and Mary — they are very kind and sweet. They were very informative about the wine we were tasting, and even let us open a bottle of wine for free tasting. Complimentary bites to go along with your wine. I would definitely come back here and support. Cute courtyard you can sit out and enjoy your wine. And…clean restroom!
