New to the neighborhood, so I stopped in for lunch. The staff was very friendly and the service was quick. I tried the Reuben with chips that are made daily at the restaurant and was extremely impressed! Definitely recommended!

Don’t let the outside fool you, its actually pretty nice inside. It has a chill pub kind of atmosphere and you feel right at ease when you walk in. We ordered food and drinks and we didn’t have to wait long for either. The life music made it all the nicer. Their chicken wings are pretty good. Definitely going back!

I work here but I’ve also been a regular for years. Come see us, we strive to do a good business with a local feel. Not to mention the best pub grub you’ve ever tasted. I still come in on my days off just to see the family that surrounds this place.

When you first pull up outside you may be tempted to drive away quickly, it’s fine h town is old and remains the same as it was 35 years ago, not true they may have swept the streets there once. Jk, sort of. Anyway when you walk in its a great old tavern type environment and has very good food and nice pub food from the crab dip to the big ass chicken sandwich. The crab nachos is good and all there stuff there is made on premises and has a very loyal following. You could possibly get stuck in the bathroom. I think there less than 3×3. The beer is cold an outside patio which is usually full of your smoker types. But all in all the place has good food, a competent friendly staff. I have never been disappointed here and certainly is the best bar food and pub scene in dtown h town. For a pubby bar place. This places food smokes the crabby ass stuffed shirts over at Bulls and bums on main street. It’s a homey feel and by all accounts some homely folks but it works and you will leave very full and happy. that is of course you can get out of the bathroom. Good luck

My fiancée and I were driving home to DC from Pittsburgh the other week, and we were desperate for a late dinner around 10pm, so we pulled out Unilocal and starting looking for a place to eat in Hagerstown. Broad Axe was one of a few places open and had excellent Unilocal reviews, so we decided to check it out. It has definitely entered our repertoire as a place to return to! Because it was a Sunday night, the bar was not highly crowded, and everyone at the bar seemed relaxed. Then, Ducky came over to introduce himself as our server. He was so friendly and so genuine, his service alone could probably have guaranteed that we would return. The food, though, was the crown jewel of this visit. Ducky was not lying when he said Broad Axe had the best reuben sandwich in the area. The sour kraut was absolutely delicious, the meat was perfectly tender, the sauce was spiced just right, and the bread was perfectly warm, yet crispy, not soggy. Similarly, my fiancée loved the Midwest Tenderloin. It was very juicy, despite being fried, and was large enough to satisfy an elephant. Thus, Broad Axe offers good food and great service at an affordable price and a convenient time. It will certainly become our go-to place in Hagerstown!

The only thing preventing five stars is the service tonight. My fiancé and I come to Broad Axe once or twice a week to get a couple drinks and dinner and have wonderful service from Ducky. Tonight we had the total opposite. There were no table seats so we decided to sit at the bar. I had a long day and really wants a few drinks and a chicken sandwich. What I got instead was one drink and an appetizer because the bartender decided to pass my empty glass 4 times before asking if I wanted more. We ordered our appetizer and couldn’t order our entrée because the bartender already walked away. Then he gave us the check, therefore we couldn’t order our entrée. I love coming to broad axe and will continue to because of Duckys amazing service, but your bartender tonight needs to make all customers feel important and not feel like they are being pushed out. I’m very upset that I had to get dinner elsewhere tonight.

Food and service were really good. We ordered a chicken sandwich topped with crab cake and a bacon chicken sandwich. Both were excellent and the bread was fresh. They also make their own potato chips.

The Axe is basically the only bar worth going to in Hagerstown if you’re not a redneck. Great food, free live music, good prices.

I’ve been loyal to The Broadaxe for the last ten years. The current owners saw the potential in cleaning up the old dive and turning it into the casually cool watering hole that it has become. The kitchen has been gaining momentum for the last few years, creeping out of standard bar fare and dipping into New American. The patio is a perfect place to spend an evening with friends enjoying the ever changing tap list and a cheesesteak. The live music is super eclectic, and despite the hipster crowd, The Broadaxe remains a family favorite.

A mid-day dirty gin martini and the most amazing chicken thing served on a waffle, makes for a happy-happy Mind and tummy. Sit at the bar or chill at a table. This place hits the top of a good first impression. Service gets a 10. Yay!

Love this place! The food is always awesome. We recommend the shrimp po boy, fish and chips, the club stacker, the Reuben, a burger and their wings(old bay of course). Really we haven’t had anything we didn’t like here. We like that they’re tap beers change often, giving us a change to try new beers. Love the atmosphere of the bar and not a bad place for a spicy Bloody Mary. They do get really busy, especially on Friday/Saturday nights.

Interesting place, sort of a dive bar but great food and alcohol selection. They have some great specials from time to time. The staff is great. If you are a regular they remember you quickly. I think what makes it so interesting is the mixture of people. You me business people, hippies, artsy types, people of different races, and the typical locals. The bar tenders are great Tony, Mark, Kelly and Donovan. It does get loud and packed at times but check it out

Nice place to have lunch during mid-day, not too crowded. Service and food were great! This time had the fish tacos, a bit spicy which may have been the sauce, but tasty! …Not to mention the eclectic variety in the music selection was great.

Popped in today as I was downtown. Very friendly bar staff, very prompt & made sure my beer was always full. Had the southern fried pickles as a bar snack. Yummy. They are a great selection of foods & beers on tap. The foods are prepared fresh. Obviously as I could see into the kitchen from my position at the bar. Only small let down down was the music… Irish themed Muzak was playing on loop. Will be back.
