Very very yummy ! They are always nice and the place is very clean. The only issue I have with Hong Kong is that they are little more expensive than any other Chinese restaurant I have been to. It’s just my husband and I and it always costs us thirty dollars or more.

We went here in the middle of a Saturday afternoon. The food was awful. The hot and sour soup had a different taste than I was used to, but also was mostly liquid with just a bit of other stuff. The egg roll was more grease than food, and the food was mostly cabbage. I ordered chicken with peanuts, and they came out with some sort of cashew dish. When they finally came to check on us, I sent it back. They brought back the right dish almost immediately — except it was undercooked. They never came back to check on us, so I didn’t get a chance to get it redone. They were nice about taking it off the bill, but that’s the only good part of the entire experience. Service was weak at a time when the restaurant was nearly empty, and the food was not cooked well at all. I don’t have high expectations of Chinese food far away from a big city, but this was even below those expectations.

Hong Kong Palace is Chinese food I the way I remember it in the 70’s when I was growing up(even in the 60’s a little, too!). HKP is not really comparable to any of the types of restaurants you’d fine around Mott Street in NYC and certainly not of the caliber of a Tse Yang(in NYC, too, but now closed) which are more authentically Chinese and wouldn’t be characterized as Chinese-American as HKP is. HKP is a classic suburban America Chinese restaurant. Of course they offer take out but it’s not one of those little hole in the wall take-out only places. You can come here, sit down in a comfortable, clean atmosphere with very good service and enjoy a selection of mostly Cantonese dishes. The ingredients always seem to be very fresh and prepared with care. For example, on one mid-afternoon visit, we witnessed some of the staff seated at a large table making fresh won tons. And they are very good. The portions are generous and dessert is included with most meals. We do not live near this restaurant but go out of our way to get Chinese food here.

Just tried it for takeout. Unfortunately as someone who never gives reviews I had to write one. I can clearly state this was the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten in my life. I actually like to heat Chinese food up for lunch the next day. I threw out all that was left as the Chicken had such a chemical note I almost thought it wasn’t safe to eat. I will keep looking as we are new to the area.

We have not found a Chinese restaurant in the area that beats this place. Great food, great staff. We will be regulars when we are in the mood for dining out!

Ok it’s been 12 years in the area before I got to go here. Place was decent sit down, nothing fancy. Clean but a bit dated(think 90’s). Service was polite and good overall, no issues there. I’d them them 4 stars there. Food… We ordered soup and a po poo platter for app as well as ribs. Ribs were excellent. Platter was good, not great. I thought the chicken wings we a bit dry and the little egg rolls tasted like those from a box. Steak on a stick was excellent. My wife and I liked the presentation of the main dishes(chicken and broccoli and chicken with garlic sauce) but the taste we both thought was very bland. Disappointed with that as we had such high hopes.

Hong Kong Palace is the best Chinese food in the area. I’ve tried all the places in Washington and they are horrible. I keep expanding my perimeter in hopes to find a halfway decent Chinese food place, and finally expanding all the way into Hackettstown, Hong Kong Palace is the first place I found deserving of a 3 Stary — A-OK rating. It would definitely not be my first choice, but it’s the best choice in this area.

Have been coming here forever. They have been open since 1986. It’s a white table cloth(not a greasy take– out) type Chinese restaurant. The staff are warm and attentive. The food always comes out quickly. The food is good– the only thing I wish is that they would have seasonal specials or a wider menu that would veer a little further off the predictable, beaten path. Would definitely recommend above all other Chinese restaurants in the Hackettstown/Washington area. 4 stars

I have been going to Hong Kong since I was a kid for over 20 years! My wife and I went tonight, and it was great. The food was excellent. The portions were huge, and you can’t beat the price! It’s BYOB as well. The service was top notch! We will definitely be going back! For anyone who has only had Chinese food for takeout, you should eat here!

Pretty much every single time I’ve visited my grandmother, we include a trip to Hong Kong Palace. It is typical, East Coast style Hong Kong/Szechuan Chinese cuisine. I think I’ve been here, ooohhh… maybe about 50 or 60 times? I have yet to try something that was not TOTALLYAWESOME. The inside of the restaurant is nothing special, but the staff and the food are top-notch. I have brought many, many guests here and they always love it. It’s inexpensive & delicious. I will bring my kids here one day, making for 4 generations of Hong Kong Palace lovers!

HKPUSED to be our favorite. We would travel 10 miles each way for take-out BUT no more. Since Jet sold the business to his brother things have gone way downhill. AND, they started using MSG. Gave them multiple tries but we are done. Moving on.

This place used to be good but it has gone downhill. Had some of the worst Chinese food there recently and 3 of the 4 of us each didn’t like our dishes. The shrimp and lobster sauce was bland, the chicken and broccoli tasted pasty and the general’s chicken was breaded weird, giving it a funky taste. It wasn’t all bad — the service was attentive and the soup was really good. The place was packed when we got there on a Saturday night at 7:30pm so something must be good, but we didn’t get it.

The best Chinese food that I’ve ever had. Never too greasy, and the staff is very accommodating for off-the-menu orders.

Decent place(Place is becoming old. Felt less excitement in service, food, setting) Food is okay(china house in Flanders is by far the best food wise, around Budd Lake). Wouldn’t go again, many new exciting places are popping up in Hackettstown.

Avoid. Ate here in Feb. 2010. Average to bad Chinese food in a depressing setting. If you want good«sit down» Chinese, go to Mr. Chu’s in the Whippany, NJ area.

Not 100% sure how I am not the first to review this place, but I’ll let it slide FREDDA R… This is your standard Chinese place, the food was pretty decent. They have these fried mini wanton noodles that are great to sprinkle in your saucy dishes. I won’t go and say the food is a cut above, but it’s decent. The selection is ok, I’ve seen better, but I’ve also seen worse. I think this place is what you’d called a local institution when it comes to chinese food. It includes a whimsical tale of moving from one building, to the building next to it and changing nothing in a way of floor plans or decoration. It basically teleported. I can only assume it was the same spell that moved the island in LOST.
