It was amazing! Do not be fooled by its appearance. It’s very casual and small but the food is some of the best I’ve had. We tried the buffalo shrimp, the poon sliders, the stuffed potato, and a few other things and they were all excellent. The staff was so kind! It is a very small establishment but they worked hard to get seven of us right in on the lower porch. I would definitely go back!!! If you are of drinking age… get the Poon Tang! Tom was our server and we loved him!

Very good Po Boys, homemade chips and shrimp. They know New Orleans and they deliver. The atmosphere is not family friendly, more of a bar setting. If I didn’t have kids, I could have seen myself have a few more beers and talking it up with the staff for the rest of the day. It’s right on the water with a small patio, but the food is why you come. 4 Stars for creating NO at Gulf Shores.

Tom was the best waiter! Great personality and so friendly! We had the crab crawfish cakes. Awesome! We had the shrimp po’boy, oyster po’boy and half and half basket… Amazing! This place has it all… Atmosphere, scenery, music, great food and friendly hospitality! 5 stars!

Was in Gulf Shores for a week, excited to try as many restaurants as possible. The Flying Harpoon was the only one that we returned to a second time! Amazing buffalo shrimp!!! The poon sliders are a must-have as well! Thanks Tom and B.R. for the great service and visits about the area!

It is a bit of a seedy place but the food is great and so were the people working there. The atmosphere was interesting and worth the time.

Every year when we visit the Gulf Shores area, our families take turns and let the adults have a «date night». My wife and I chose to try the Original Oyster House for our meal. This was our second visit, the first was when we had our small children with us, and we couldn’t pay attention to the food. So, we decided to give them a try. Upon arriving we were told about an hour and a half wait, and it took 45 minutes. During our wait we strolled the boardwalk, bought a t-shirt and a bottle of wine from the shops. The wine and beer shop had local wines and craft beers from Alabama and Florida. When we were seated we ordered drinks and an appetizer. My wife had the Pina Colada, and I had the Watermelon Rita, the drinks were good, and my wife even received a little flask with some extra. The appetizer was okay, we ordered the crab cakes. Not the best, or worst. We both ordered seafood which was exactly what you expect if you order fried fish and seafood. The fish filets were actually better than the shrimp. We upgraded to a salad bar to balance out all the fried food, and it was slightly above average. All fresh veggies, just not very large. We skipped desert and went on our way. The boardwalk and the wine shop which is new(open 3 weeks at time of posting) is great, and that is a five, the restaurant is nothing special above what you would get at any other seafood restaurant, adequate and filling. The portions were large enough, so I rate them a 3. Overall the experience was a 4, and we would go back.

This place place is mainly for poboys only. If you want a poboy then this is your place but if not then don’t bother. I order the half and half basket which is 20 bucks my shrimp tasted really good, well fried and the house chips are good to, but my oysters where very undercooked and soggy. The outside seating is very nice. Put short this place isn’t really a good value unless you want a poboy.

Amazing food and great staff! Most beautiful view of the sun set! Recommend the shrimp and loaded seafood potato. The adults and kids had so much fun coloring and playing games!!! It’s a must go place!

Tom was our waiter(great guy btw) and was very helpful in suggesting dinners; ordered a couple Dos Equis(tall boys) with limes(ice cold btw) first and sat on the back deck. We then had Poon Sliders and the Pizza w/conecuh sausage for appetizers — both were outstanding to say the least! My boss and I both ordered the Buffalo shrimp baskets — I’m telling you… unbelievable flavor… and toss in the homemade house chips? Wicked good! The atmosphere, service and B.R. making his rounds makes it a top notch little joint! Pass up the Oyster House next door(overrated) and stop in behind that place — to the Flying Harpoon — you won’t be sorry… Thanks Tom & B. R!!! Next time I’m in town I’m eating at the ‘Poon again brothers! Keep up the great work!

At first glance it just looks like a local dive that you wouldn’t give the time of day. The inside is small and very few tables. But don’t sleep on this place! The appetizers were wonderful(sliders and fried critters). The real winner was the baskets. We got the half and half basket(shrimp/oyster) w/house made chips, coleslaw and creole remoulade sauce! This was the freshest shrimp I have ever had! The batter was slightly crispy but let the flavorful shrimp pour through with every bite! You tasted the meat and not the batter! And the fried oysters were very good, especially with the hot sauce on the table! A great little place to grab a drink but even better place to grab a bite!

Awesome food, awesome service. I highly recommend the crab & crawfish cakes and the shrimp platter. The place looks like an old bar, but the food is some of the best I’ve had in Gulf Shores.

First place we are on our trip. While this is a divy place I enjoyed it. I had the buffalo shrimp po boy and gumbo. My son enjoyed his pizza and the others liked their food but not as much as I did. It’s definently has some interesting people patronizing but whom am I to judge. My son enjoyed watching the jet skis come up to park and the dog which was hanging around.

After a 14 hour drive my boyfriend and I were looking to cross off my Unilocal bookmarks down here in Gulf Shores and this was first on the list! Man oh man was it a great southern welcome! We arrived at around noon on a Thursday afternoon and noticed the small location of the restaurant, there isn’t much parking or seating but it’s enough! The waitress was kind, funny and quirky albeit being a little overwhelmed with three tables. Our food came out quickly and it was delicious! My boyfriend really enjoyed his Po Boy(the half and half) and I liked mine as well. His baked potato left a little to be desired though, we didn’t finish it. All in all, great location and I would definitely recommend! I loved the wall art and customer drawn posters and stickers!

It’s a good little hangout with a good view and locals and good music but the food reviews are total BS because the food sucks. It’s equivalent with an Arby’s or Jack-in-the-Box on a good day. Definitely not with four and a half star restaurant as is posted by so many other people who probably go and eat there for free.

This is indeed a «hole in the wall» establishment, but man is it good. The bartender was as nice as they come, the drinks were good(and strong), and the food was phenomenal. There was a band playing that set the mood to this lively, but small looking place. There’s very little parking and don’t you dare park across the street where their neighbor restaurant has security guards to keep away non-patrons. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the Flying Harpoon and can’t wait to go back. Don’t expect any frills. What you see is what you get here, and that’s just fine with me.

Yes, this IS A BAR. Do not be afraid! Walk in, go have a seat out back by the serene lagoon and let the sweet servers bring you some awesome food!!! The oyster fritters were great. Hot wings were small and crunchy and they make their own wing sauce that is to die for! The buffalo shrimp were really good. The house made potato chips are a must. The Cole slaw was fresh, creamy and flavorful!!! They even fresh made my son oysters with flour batter because he is allergic to corn. Highly recommend this place.

I was *covered* in sauce. Awesome sauce. Hot sauce, ranch, gravy and some delicious secret concoction known only as a Cajun remolade. 1, 2, 3, 4, count ‘em, FOUR sauces. Just… everywhere. I had devoured the Roast Beef po’boy(and side of chips) with such gusto that nothing remained except for the succulent sauces covering my fingers, marinating my beard, and decorating my shirt. So yeah, that sammitch’ was frakkin’ delicious, and the laid back, familiar bartender/server/hostess made the experience all the better. Prices were fair, too! WHATMOREDOYOUNEED?! Just a quick walk up from the beaches, so hop to it.

For some reason, I didn’t know this restaurant existed until I was writing last month’s newsletter. After reading some of the reviews, I knew this is where we’d be stopping to eat the next time we were in Gulf Shores. That was a good decision! The place is very small, and so is the patio. It’s actually an upstairs deck with a great view of the Little Lagoon. It’s a great place to spend a sunny afternoon with an adult beverage in hand! When I looked over the menu, I couldn’t make up my mind because it all sounded so good. A great man once said«Indecision may or may not be my problem.» That was definitely the case. I came up with a simple solution — just order it all. We ordered the jambalaya with blackened shrimp, the buffalo fried shrimp and the crab and crawfish cakes. They were all delicious! If I had to pick one as the best, I would have to go with the crab and crawfish cakes. They had a nice beer selection. My husband had some sort of IPA Harpoon beer and I enjoyed a Woodchuck Cider. The prices were reasonable and the service was great! We’ll definitely be back!

We are in Orange Beach for Thanksgiving and we needed a place to eat dinner but choices were limited so we came here… I didn’t know it was a bar and that’s my fault for not checking into it. Not kid friendly, at all. Everyone in the place is drunk, which is great for business but horrible for families. Just a heads up for tourists with kids. The food was actually really good. I had the Creole stuffed tater and the gumbo. I’ve had better gumbo but the potato was delicious. Shelley was an awesome waitress and really went out of her way to make my daughter feel safe and comfortable.

Of all the places we visited on our trip to gulf shores this is the only place we went to twice. First visit was for some yummy shrimp po-boys and their simple yet great thin sliced homemade potato chips. The second visit we hit up the shrimp basket and an appetizer order of their craw-fish and crab cakes. Splitting those two items is way more than enough food for two hungry people. The craw/crab cakes are so good. Dark fried outer with a extremely high meat inner. No over-breaded/filler cakes here. They are just solid meaty goodness. Worth a try to anyone. The locally sourced gulf shrimp really hit the spot. Big, juicy, and flavorful shrimp make this place a must for any visit. Plus its a total dive and is proud of it. Yeah this is the food we came to gulf shores to enjoy.
