Pros: Helpful, knowledgeable staff. Various programs for kids alone, kids with one or more parents, or adults without kids. Offers bus trips to NYC twice a year also. Bathroom in the little kids area for the little kids.(Makes it easier for one parent to take them there) Staff is a familiar face. Cons: Parking lot can be tricky due to people not paying attention to which way the rows go. Inability to scan your library card from a smartphone app. My daughter and I stopped this afternoon for a wonderful program featuring the Alice in Wonderland movie(original Disney version) and than got to make crafts. There also was another event she signed up for that was going to interfere with the craft making, but the staff was willing to work with us and help her out. The library has always been clean, easy to find help, and an enjoyable place to spend time with my family. New lighting is being installed throughout, so it may be brighter than what you are used too.

My family and I love the GPL. My 9-year-old daughter has become a voracious reader, and I’m always happy to bring her to the library whenever she asks. She loves to check out new books. My teenage sons were surprised at the breadth of their graphic novel section, as well as their video game selection — decent titles for Xbox360/One, PS¾, and Wii/WiiU. You can do easy searches at a number of kiosks, which are located throughout the library. Unfortunately, they’re not able to scan my library card from my phone(I stopped carrying my physical card a while ago), but they can manually enter your number, as long as you’ve got a driver’s license/ID. Returning books and media is easier than ever, too — they’ve added a drop-off right at the entrance to the parking lot.

It feels like I’m at the library all the time. The kids love it. It’s not the biggest library, and they may not have the most toys, but the children’s section is well separated from the rest of the stacks. The story time and drop in play time for toddlers has always been a hit. The big kiddo has never had a hard time getting on one of the computers. The kids librarians have been very helpful in suggesting good books. There is nothing quite like paying property taxes and seeing how much money you are spending on the library every year, to encourage you to go more. Worked for me. Plus I have to say that I love the library in today’s internet age. It’s so easy. From home you can have books delivered to the library from any branch in the system. All you need to do is go and pick them up. And you can renew them online. Twice. The library even sends out helpful email reminders to renew. Now all I need to do is find time to read.
