Ron’s

I have been going to Ron’s for about 20 years. Before Home Depot he had the largest and best selection of landscaping plants. For me it was also a destination biking place to look at everything and relax in that atmosphere. Home Depot and the drought cut his business. In his former location he then directed to unusual plants rather than the usual landscaping. Then he had a fire where he was under insured.
The new little store on Grand Ave is all that is left. Only by his reputation can he make a business in that area. His plants are mainly succulents. Also my favorite Protea family plants: Leucodendron and Leucospermum. I do not consider it a nursery but a gift shop. The music as always the best relaxing classical. I consider it a trip to a spa for free.
Locals know that Ron knows more about plants than anyone in town. His degree was from Cal Poly in Ornamental Horticulture. People who work at other nurseries call him for info. I am only interested in plants not even pots so the designs are what I enjoy seeing but do not buy.
His plants that I have bought are always the healthiest and best shaped. I try to repay his generous advice with homemade brownies or homemade pizza but I will never catch up to what I own him in advice and enjoyment.
Also in comment to the below of a local who took friends to Ron’s and felt ignored, Ron and the employees know most people wish to enjoy the place and not be pressured. Simply ask Ron for any advice or suggestions.

Lovely, artsy, fun, whimsical shop. I love going, however way way overpriced. I wish they could have more affordable things ! I used to work at a similar store in Newport Beach & even they weren’t as pricey.

We found them again! We use to cruise around at the old «Ron’s» back in the day but they disappeared. All of the amazing trinkets and plants are here with Ron’s design. A must see.

This store has a lot of great home decorations and pretty plants. Everything is rather pricey though so I had to really convince myself I loved something before I would buy it. They have a great nursery in the back of the store and there are two cats that roam around greeting the customers. The whole store emits a very calming atmosphere and the staff were very friendly. Bonus, the bathroom is amazing and has several different high end lotions available after you wash your hands. A one stop shop if you’re looking for pretty Christmas gifts!
