Just recently, I ordered my Dad’s birthday cake(lemon Doberge) from this location. The 3 stars are for that and their customer service. Both of which were great. While in there picking up the cake, I purchased 4 petit fours; as well a German chocolate & red velvet square. ALLOFWHICHWERESTALE! 6 $ wasted. Do better Gambinos.

I simply asked for a special cake, they are a bakery after all, I said«I don’t care about the cost» and still they turned me away, they won’t do less than an 8 inch cake, I wanted 44 inch cakes put together, they would not even listen what I wanted. Voted best bakery, bull crap, they could care less, they don’t care about money, so what, they don’t want the extra work, all I can say is if you want something standard and not worth a dime, go there

I had a sweet tooth and stopped in for a couple of pastries. It was love at first bite. I didn’t expect much from the looks of the outside but I was completely wrong. I have fallen in love with the southern red velvet. I will definitely be back for a while cake next time! The workers were also very kind :)

For me, Mardi Gras is synonymous with Gambino’s. With one bite of a Gambino’s king cake I’m transported back to the king cake parties of my youth. Each class had a king cake party on the Friday before our week long Mardi Gras break. The big question was, «Who got the baby?» Of course everyone tried to act cool – like it didn’t matter who got the baby – all the while secretly hoping it was hidden inside their piece. Let me tell you, the finder of the king cake baby experienced a Charlie-Bucket-has-the-golden-ticket level of exuberation! Anyway, I grew up a Gambino’s girl and even though I no longer live in South Louisiana I’m still one. If I’m ever within 50 mile radius of one of their bakeries during Carnival season then I must have a king cake. Although they’re available with fillings of cream cheese, chocolate or praline, my favorite is still the traditional king cake. The twisted cinnamony Danish is coated in thick white fondant icing and sprinkled with fine purple, green and gold sugars. Yes, Gambino’s version is diabetes inducingly sweet but Mardi Gras is SUPPOSED to be a celebration of indulgence and excess. So think of Gambino’s king cake as Mardi Gras for your mouth. They call themselves«the king of king cakes» and I couldn’t agree more.

Horrible overall customer service! Ordered a King Cake a month in advance for my daughters birthday to be shipped to San Diego. Checked in a week prior and their CS people though nice were totally incompetent. They took 45 minutes to finally find my order and whoever is in charge of ecommerce sales and data never seem to be there. Called again the day before and spoke to a CS person who did not listen nor let me speak. I asked to speak to a supervisor and denied 4 times before I insisted. I was put on hold for 15 minutes and no response. I called back 10 times only to get a recorded message… finally got a live person and spoke to the store manager who apologized and assured me the cake would go out that evening. I called back at 7:00PMCST and of course no one could give me any info as to the status of the cake and to call tomorrow. I went to check my order status online and their site for want of a better word is useless. Hopefully I will beat the odds and the cake will somehow go out and be delivered tomorrow… if not I can only hope for a refund. Whatever the result, I will never do business with Gambino’s again. Unprofessional and inept as far as I am concerned… they have no right to do ecommerce.

I work on the Wank sometimes and during Carnival people expect and need their king cakes. This is many folks favorite king cake and Gambino’s has a location on the West Bank to help make folks happy. I’m much less fond of this location than the one in Metairie and they tend to sell out of things fast here.

I would definitely give Gambino’s a solid three stars. My main complaint is that if you want anything good, you have to go pretty early because they sell out of pastries quickly, and they won’t get anymore in until the next morning. When I get something here, it’s usually a king cake. Not a bad place to go, if you are in the area, but not worth going out of your way for.
