Common Grounds has become our go-to brunch spot! My girlfriend and I are looking to buy a house in the Old Gretna area by the end of this year! We love the food here, the atmosphere, the clientele… we especially love LISA B! She’s the best. Very attentive! Very genuine! We are looking forward to sitting in her section every time we stop in. The Crabcake Eggs Benedict is outstanding! OMG!

Outstanding! Even with all the Gretna Fest hubbub happening outside, fantastic service and even better food! Crab cakes eggs Benedict is a must! Common Slam is also excellent.

4 stars for the food, 1 star for the service, averages to a 2 star overall rating for this joint. Ate here this morning(Sunday 8÷16÷15) with 4 other friends. There was a line to get seated. Waitress took FOREVER to get us our drinks, then FOREVER to take our order, then FOREVER to bring our food, then FOREVER to bring us the check. We spent over 2 hours here. And it wasn’t anything major. 3 of us got the crab cake Benedict. Delicious. Very filling. My other friend got the regular eggs Benedict and my boyfriend got the bayou omelet. Everything was good. Side pancakes are huge. Coffee is strong. Only thing upsetting about food was the hash browns. Soggy and too greasy. We won’t be coming back. But really good food.

I’m giving Common Grounds a 4-star overall review, since I come here really often and enjoy it. But if I Was only rating this particular visit it would be 3-stars instead. I usually come for lunch on Fridays or Breakfast/lunch on Saturdays. It can be crowded at times, but Sunday’s it seems to be so packed that it affects the meal. Usually, the eggs, seafood, sandwiches– are all great. Today I got a cup of gumbo and eggs Benedict. The gumbo was delicious as always. The eggs in the Benedict were quite overlooked– so much so that the yolks were like hard boiled eggs. We waited over 40’minutes for the food, so I def didn’t want to send it back. And the poor waitresses looked super stressed just rushing all around. I know I’ll be back because I like this place, but I prob wing go on Sunday’s anymore!

Great breakfast spot in Old Gretna. Typical breakfast fare and all at a good price. Staff is friendly and attentive. They also have a full bar if you are in need of a morning or afternoon cocktail.

This little corner spot with a clever name is best for breakfast. They run lunch and dinner specials and recently changed their menu, but I have found that they are still lackluster compaired the value and excution of the perfect over easy egg. They do have a nice assortment of baked goods that look amazing. They also have espresso machines that they can make your latte’s and frappachinos. My only complaint is that it could be a little cleaner.

Good breakfast but for lunch and dinner not so much. Don’t know what’s up with this place… Once got the turkey sandwich that has avocado on it and they put a completely brown avocado on it. Couldn’t even take the avacado off because it was smashed into my sandwich. The watery turkey was horrible quality. I have gotten this sandwich before and it was actually good, so I don’t know if they lowered their quality of ingredients or what. Got the chicken salad sandwich and two of them had the tops of tomatoes on them, no tomato part just the top part! Not one but two! Very disappointed, will never go here again.

I stopped by here for brunch/lunch with my brother. I wanted to avoid the mardi gras crowd downtown. It was a nice local place and you can tell who the regulars were. The food prices are very cheap and portions were big! At least my brother’s steak and eggs were big for $ 10. I had a mimosa and it was delicious. I ordered the egg benedict and it was only two poaches eggs on english muffiins and ham with hollandaise sauce. No sides or anything, you will have to order that seperately, but it’s only $ 6.95 for the benedict? So it is worth the price. The service was good and the waitress was very attentive! If you want to check out the farmers market next door, you can just walk there!

I came here for a coffee shop experience — have a cup, use the wifi, order some food and chill out for a bit. This is more café than coffee shop, though. The iced coffee was okay(tasted diluted) and the service, though initially very slow, was nice enough for me to come back if I happen to be in the area. They do not have wi-fi so this is not a good place to have a seat and crank any work out, but the people were nice and it looks like a cool neighborhood establishment. All available parking seemed to be on a pay to park basis only, fyi.

We come here often for breakfast, as does half of Gretna, I think. Nothing innovative. Service is rather sub par. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of the waitresses smile. But I can get over that for the consistently good breakfast and coffee and the super cheap prices.

Great little breakfast place to just hang out and talk over coffee. May have a little slow service but it’s because they are slammed on weekend mornings. Can bring your dog and sit outside. If you go on a Saturday morning, you can visit the gretna farmers market behind held next door

Nice neighborhood coffeehouse that is more of a restaurant than a coffee shop thus they have no wifi which is a big loss since that was the only reason why I went there on this occasion. Maybe next time I will buy some food but the coffee is just ok.

First time here and it was a great place to go get coffee, smoke a cigar, eat some pastries and have a drink… I only wish they had a tv outside so we could watch the game while smoking a cigar. Yes I’ll happily go back.

Last weekend, Hubby & I made the drive to Gretna, found parking right across the street(sometimes can be tricky), and actually didn’t have to wait to be seated inside. Amazing, as this place can get pretty busy on a Sunday morning. Service isn’t great, but I think that’s because they only have 3 – 4 servers for a huge dining room + patio, and most of these customers are on the older side, and they like to talk a lot. Thus, we didn’t get the most attentive service ever, but that’s okay. All of the food arrived at a decent speed, and it was correct, and we got a coffee refill. That’s all I need. $ 4.95 for a huge plate of food. Eggs cooked however you want them, sausage or bacon, hashbrowns, grits, and toast. I still don’t understand the appeal of grits. They are flavorless. But everything else was pretty good, especially for the price. Given that there really are no other breakfast options on the Westbank(other than IHOP and a few donut shops), this is a good, solid choice for a relatively inexpensive and good, filling meal.

Solid(this is my adjective of the month, I guess) diner type spot. I did not have the coffee since I don’t drink the stuff but the iced tea was good and the breakfasts were all really tasty. They even added extra strawberries to the fruit cup for the nieces. Good prices, courteous service, good choice in Old Gretna for diner food.

Common Grounds, how I do love breakfast here! It is hard not to rave about. This place is nothing fancy, quite informal. Diner food done well, set in a casual café in the middle of historic Old Gretna. The train passes on the street right nextdoor(beware if sitting outside, that train will be loud when it goes by). I like to sit at the bar on Saturday mornings. Enjoy a cup of coffee that never goes empty. I order the Common Breakfast. 2 eggs any style, toast, grits, hashbrowns, and either bacon or sausage. All of this…$ 5. Can you beat that? The french toast and pancakes are delightful as well. If in need of lunch, make a stop! I order the chicken salad on rye. Everytime I lunch here, this is my order(so I don’t branch out, sue me). I love chicken salad and it hits the spot everytime. The waitstaff is friendly and the food is great! 5 stars from me, because as cliché’ as this sounds, it is what it is. A pleasant neighborhood café serving up a yummy breakfast! If you are looking for breakfast on a Monday however, you’ll be out of luck. Common Grounds is closed on Mondays.

Common Grounds is a good, casual restaurant in Old Gretna. Old Gretna is one of my favorite areas on the westbank. Besides the cool architecture, there are many cool restaurants and businesses. Common Grounds is one of those places. With the perfect location on the corner of Huey P. Long Avenue, there is a nice patio where old men sit, smoke, talk and watch the cars drive by. Some of these guys are very interesting. On my most recent trip I was stopped by one on my way in, and we ended up talking for a half hour. The restaurant is mainly one large room. It can get very crowded during the lunch rush, so I recommend coming at an off time. We came around 1:00 p.m. and had no problem being seated. Service was very friendly. While I am not a regular, the waitress treated me as if I were her best customer. Our table had a cheeseburger poor boy, a steak and a seafood platter. All of the food was reasonably priced and quite tasty. I really like Common Ground. After reading the reviews, I need to come visit for breakfast, but regardless of when I come, I will definitely come back.
