Loved this place!!! Love that its all organic. Service was awesome! The room is cozy and comfortable. We loved the music and the pink radish mural on the wall. The wine list is fantastic and the cocktails are DELICIOUS! We felt like we were in a hip NYC/Brooklyn restaurant — unique to and much needed on Greenwich Ave. Don’t miss the jalapeño honey margarita! My boyfriend had the pumpkin spice manhattan, which was unreal! The pumpkin spice«tincture»(we were told) was made in house with organic spices and extracted with organic vodka. The most delicious meal I’ve had on Greenwich Avenue by FAR. Th prices are comparable to what is already available in Greenwich and the quality of food is far far far superior, not to mention all organic. Best new restaurant I’ve been to in a while! We love that the menu changes daily depending on what is available by local farms. I wanted to get the pork chop, but they were out. I read on the menu that they get whole animals and butcher them in house, so the waiter told me there is a limited supply. I got the chicken instead and it was the best chicken I’ve EVER had! I can’t wait to go back and try the pork chop! We are so excited to have«stumbled» upon this place! The location is weird and a bit hard to find, but well worth it once you do! We can’t wait to go back soon to see what is new!!!

I would rate the food here the most authentic, nourishing and flavorful I have tasted since I arrived to the States 3 years ago. I’m not sure why/how this restaurant only has 3 stars. The service is great and the atmosphere is chill and relaxing. BIGFAN!

Please explain how faux barn panelling equals $ 10 more per item on the entire menu? This was the Organic Planet space(and before that a record store and a nail salon) and serves essentially the same menu as Organic Planet at 2x the prices, ½ the service, ¼ the taste. Gouging isn’t a business model. I just dropped $ 144 for two and I’m still hungry. Why is this so hard? When will some restaurant owner realize that not everyone in Greenwich is a hedge fund billionaire(and PS they don’t eat here anyway). Even in Greenwich there’s a simple model: decent food, decent atmosphere, decent prices equals repeat customers. There’s nothing sustainable about this sustainable food restaurant.

Back 40 Kitchen is probably Greenwich’s most authentic organic restaurant. They order ingredients from local farms and suppliers, even the wine and alcoholic beverages are organic. The restaurant has a casual vibe, very simple décor, small wooden tables, beamed ceilings, very attractive if a bit utilitarian. The vegetables and salads here can be very good indeed. The farm-to-table produce tastes very fresh because it is. What they will do in the winter months to carry this off, I am not sure. You will find unique entrées here. Roasted mole chicken($ 29) is delicious and not like any chicken I order anywhere else. The«wild» salmon($ 34) was less successful for me. It had a very rich pink color for a «wild» salmon. Not terrible, but I have had better. Sides are around $ 10, but very good. I mentioned that the alcoholic beverages are organic. So no Scotch, even single malt(«not organic»). I was invited to try an organic whisky instead. It was ok. It was a very small pour(not like the one you get at Harvest, Polpo. or L’Escale) so I ordered another. I was surprised when I got the bill that it was $ 21.00 a shot. I asked if that was the right price, and was told by the manager that organic alcohol was more expensive. With respect to that manager, her motto seems to be that«The customer is always wrong.» I sent back a bottle of white wine that was shot. The waiter replaced the bottle, but she came over and said, «The wine is fine, we just opened it.» Huh? I did not want to embarrass her so let that one go. I told her that the wine had turned to acid. She said it «is a very acidic wine». It isn’t, as the replacement bottle proved. Another patron complained about the size of the pour for a $ 17 glass of wine, and the manager said all drinks are measured the same way and she could not do anything about it. On subsequent visits, I saw her in not friendly discussions with patrons. There are other problems too. The entrées are not consistently good. That mole chicken, so good one night, was overcooked and dry on the next visit. Those organic wines limit choice. We are white wine drinkers and have not loved what we had there. Bottom line: A unique menu, authentically organic, quite good when the kitchen does its job, and a bit pricey for what it offers. I would rank 5 – 6 restaurants in Greenwich ahead of this one.

If I could select 0 stars, I would. My girlfriends and I were really excited to try this new(ish) spot on the Ave. Since you can’t make reservations for less than 6 people, the 3 of us arrived at 9p and asked for a table. We were seated right away, drink orders taken and looked over the menu. The waiter came over and took our orders, we asked for the pear appetizer, the steak and 2 of us ordered the scallops. Five minutes later the waiter returned to inform us that they are out of not just one of our selections… but ALL of them. We were offered the only remaining dish… chicken. How do you completely run out of food? And how do you not inform someone when they ask for a table that you’re out of pretty much everything? Instead we sat down, ordered $ 12 — $ 15 cocktails & wine and had to find somewhere else to eat dinner at 9:30. And to not even offer to comp our round of drinks as an apology? Not even one! Bad customer service to top it off. Really disappointed as we were very much looking forward to making this a new regular spot on the Ave.

nice room, good service, but absolutely horrible food. it is unclear to me how the other reviews were for the same restaurant. They seem to not be able to add flavor to anything. Though the menu describes all of the ingredients, the kitchen uses almost no seasoning and the food has no taste or sometimes a weird taste. Their sangria, at $ 10, tastes nothing like sangria and is about 1 – 2 ounces of cheap wine in a glass of ice with no fruit. Yes, i know this is just a drink, but this gives you a sense of how they seem to botch everything. as another example, instead of bread, they present a tine mini-corn muffin for each diner and provide an amount of butter for our party(6 guests) that literally would be insufficient for one. At least everyone at the table had a laugh to start the dinner. I ordered a NY Strip cooked«Medium,» and i got some form of skirt stake that was rare. They cut it in the kitchen, so sending it back was impractical. While kitchens can mess up a steak temp, there was no excuse for selling me a NY strip and presenting a skirt steak. i ordered mint chip ice cream. They seemed to have chopped very freshly picked mint and mixed it with cream, sugar, etc. to make the ice cream. Sadly, it tasted like i was eating a plant – raw mint, stalks and all. The kitchen is very amateurish, the prices are full, and the taste is missing. Lastly, they took it upon themselves to add the top for a party of just 6. i have NEVER seen any restaurant do this. All i can say is if you want to try this place, do it soon, since it will not be around in a year. 3 tries, 3 bad meals. They do nothing right. never again.

Went there last night for a Friend’s birthday party. We had to wait a little for the table but the staff was very attentive and informative. I had two cocktails which were both stellar. Our party of 6 shared an array of appetizers. They start you off with mini warm cornbread which is delicious. My favorites were the special which was the pork shoulder with watermelon and sweet potato fries. I also really enjoyed the Mole Chicken. The food was just stellar and like I said great service. Would definitely come back.

Back 40 is a localvore restaurant. The entrance is up a staircase in the back parking lot of CVS. The restaurant had a lovely mural of turnips on one wall and a list of all the farms where the food was grown. We went there for lunch. The service was spotty. After ordering with specified instructions; dressing on the side of one dish, cheese on the side of another, they brought us the incorrect food, which was quickly remedied, however it is frustrating to pay such a high price and not have something done right the first time. The food was a big disappointment. I am happy to pay 10 dollars for a small portion of polenta, as long as it isnt al dente.

THISPLACEISAMAZING… i recognized the chefs name immediately due to his extensive fine dining background and had a chance to talk to him. ive never seen somebody so passionate about their menu, food, and establishment. i am a restaurant manager at a hotel so i was blown away. he hand picks each local farm himself and i doubt you will see food prepared like this unless youre at some crazy eight hundred dollar dinner NYC fine dining restaurant. the prices here are what you would expect to see at a farm to table restaurant of this caliber. it is well worth it. i dont think people in the area realize what a hidden treasure this place is. i was there with 3 other friends and we ordered like half the menu and couldnt help sharing everything because it was so awesome. the bacon wrapped scallops, the cold potato leek soup, the WuTang drink, the pork belly, the mole chicken, seared tuna, creamy polenta, fingerling potatoes… oh man!.. what else?.. the desserts were crazy. we tried the blueberry crisp, the home made ice creams, VEGAN cookies with cashew milk, etc… even the presentation ranging from the branding to the plates and silverware was top notch. everything was chosen so specifically and works so well together. some of the skillet food comes out on a block of wood with their logo branded into it. so cool, trendy, hip, and gluten free. we need more places like this where i am from but i guess there can only be one!!!

Cool new lunch place tucked behind CVS, just off the Ave with zen inspired wood lined walls. Feels urban, fresh and inspired. The highlight for me was the amazing vegan desserts! We had the cookies — chocolate chip, an «Oreo» with coconut crème and an oatmeal raisin, all dipped in cashew milk. I also tried the vegan chai ice cream — yummy though I prefer the coconut base to cashews. For lunch I had the pulled pork tacos — delicious, zesty and on the small side.(I’m not vegan as you can see, just dairy free.) My friend got the quinoa burger which was huge — she liked it. We’d definitely go back.

Wow! Hands down the best restaurant of its kind in the area. An amazing addition to the local restaurant scene. Not cheap, but absolutely worth it. I was lucky to grab one of the first meals here. The food is fantastic! Each dish is beautifully presented and full of wonderful, comforting, but complex flavors. All the design and décor is thoughtfully put together and complements the experience. And the music isn’t too loud, which is always a plus. Small dishes are great: the burnt ends are smoky and delicious. Absolutely get an order(or three). And I’ve never had anything quite like the cashew gazpacho before, but it is a really special dish. Also tried the crushed chickpea toast, which was excellent. Main dishes: the pork loin was delicious and juicy with awesome lentils. The swordfish was perfectly cooked and had great summer flavors. But the real winner was the chicken. The mole was not your typical sauce, but more of a mole-barbecue rub that was totally delicious. Worth getting the dish for the candied carrots on the side. Overall, a new favorite – we hope to be back soon!
