We sat outside and all I can say is I absolutely loved this place. Nice hidden little gem! We started off with the beef carpaccio, which was amazing! Love the crunchiness of the baguette and the meat is delicious. I ordered the appetizer maultaschen 3ways. Unique, nothing like a ravioli in my opinion – and I’d totally order it again. My fiancé ordered the Dijon-crusted salmon with creamed leek and house potatoes: this dish is to die for. I can never make a salmon taste like this with my own cooking. Great date spot – can’t wait to go back!

I know it’s been long enough that I should have given up my memories of the ‘old’ original Schwaben House. It was fun, relaxed and kitschy… just the way I like things :) The new incarnation of Schwaben House is a little too quiet… a little to upscale/sterile…it just lacks the personality that suggests ‘hey, this is the place I’m going to have a great German meal’. The food was pretty tasty, but servings were too small for the cost, and it seemed like perfect presentation was more important than the meal experience. Our waitress was disappointing, too. She never told us that there were any meal specials… and then failed to tell us about the dessert specials(one of which sounded delicious… when we heard another waitress telling another table about it after we had paid our check and were leaving). The part that irked me most was that, on the bottom of the menu, there was a statement«children are welcome, but please only bring them between 5 and 7 pm…» basically to preserve the ambiance. Really? I don’t have kids, but that really bugged me that they put that on their menu. I feel like they skipped ‘unique fine dining’ and went straight to ‘stuffy and uncomfortable generic dining’. Too bad.

So, chances are, you have no idea this place exists. There’s a sign you can see from the road, and just the walls of the building, but it’s not the section of town you’d think to look for a nice dinner, so you;d most likely pass it by. However, there are not many German places around, so when I was in the mood for German food, this was the only place that came to mind, so we decided to try it. Place it outrageous! The back area(which I guess is technically the«front») is really awesome-an outdoor seating area with comfortable chairs & large umbrellas with twinkle lights. Our waitress(who may very well be the owner) was just lovely, and guided me with my beer choice(there are plenty of options!), which ended up being fantastic. I had the tomato soup, and also ordered the dijon-encrusted salmon over potatoes & leeks. I don’t know if those items are the first things that come to mind for German food, but whatever, they were amazing. My co-diner who has spent a significant amount of time loved his Jäger Scnitzel(definitelly spelling that wrong). Cannot wait to return. So awesome.

Pretty good food and Service was good. I had red snapper cocktail — it was ok. Red snapper fish and appetizers were good. Will go back and I recommend!

Amazing service right from the moment you walk in, very friendly staff and the food was amazing… Especially the spätzle!

Very disappointing. Particularly rude service. The portions were small and the beer selection was disappointing. I could have dealt with the poor beer selection, rude service or small portions if the food was good. It was rather pedestrian

Love it. We eat there at least twice a month. Best little neighborhood joint around Gower. Excellent service, attentive staff and enjoyable small setting. I would like to see a few more«specials», menu options are limited to a handful of choices but are all excellent!

I give five stars on décor and table layout. The bar is a very rustic chic, hardwood floor laminate, and faux stone in place of floor molding was very interesting and it worked. It was a very intimate and inviting atmosphere. The only reason I am not giving five stars was the service was very slow. There were only two couples there when we arrived and two more arrived shortly after and they received their food before us. We were brought a smoked sausage w/some kind of cream on top served on a piece of crusty bed that was delicious… complimentary of the chef. I started with a goulash stew. It was thick, creamy, and hearty, bursting with flavors but somewhat on the sweet side, which I didnt care for the sweet. My husband had a salad which consisted of a cabage that reminded me if a slaw, lettuce, and like a pickled greenbean… it looked odd… but the flavors worked. We also had the appetizer of smoked salmon served on crusty bread. It was really tasty too. For entrée I had the pork loin served a mushroom gravy and spatzle and german potato salad. This dish was good but I dont know if my taster was off tonight but the sauce had a spice that I did not like. It wasnt over powering so it didnt ruin the dish but I dont think I would order it again. My husband had the Rostbraten which was a NY strip served with spatzle brown gravy topped with fried onions. His dish was fantastic. Lastly I had the trilogy dessert which consisted of a crème brûlée(good) chocolate cake(good but very rich, needed a dab of whip cream or ice cream to cut the bitternesz of the chocolate) and a white chocolate coffee mouse(my favorite and very yummy) With a bottle of Reisling our meal cost about $ 140

Visited Schwaben House with some friends. Food was tasty and beer was cold. Unfortunately, the service here was VERY slow. We spent a total of three hours here for dinner with a party of 7 and for about the last hour, our waitress was no where to be found. Not only did we have to wait an incredibly long time for our checks, but we were also out of drinks by that point(including water). I don’t mind taking my time eating at a restaurant and conversing with friends but to not be able to find our waitress to get another drink or a water refill is a bit crazy. Would probably not go back based on service.

A coworker of mine, who has heavy German ancestry and took German language classes, and I decided to check out this place. The ambiance was nice and cozy and could be very romantic. The bar top was homemade and made out of oak or something. Nice touch. The service was spot on and everyone was super nice. I had the Sauerbraten, which was the first time I have had that, and it was really good. Tender and juicy. The red slaw cabbage was delicious as well. The brown gravy was creamy without being too cloyingly thick. My co worker got the wiener schnitzel and was happy with his choice. My only complaint was the dessert. We split an apple strudel and although the pastry was perfect, the filling was a little bland and not very sweet. I would go back here is a heartbeat. Nice people and good food.

Slow service and mushroom sauce tasted like it came out of a can. Very nicely decorated. The beer was cold.

there is absolutely nothing good I can say about this place — bad service, unfriendly wait staff, poor choices for food option, small portions to the point we left hungry and way over priced. And we moved here from NYC suburb so we know price!

Not really an authentic German restaurant. Menu is VERY limited with few traditional dishes. Mostly pork with few popular German wines and beers. Nice atmosphere, but I couldn’t help but get the impression that this is a place for the snooty to dine. Service slow, despite the admonishment on the menu that they may impose 20% gratuity«at their discretion!» Food quality was average for the price. Not sure why this place is considered a good German restaurant, unless there is just not many German restaurants in Greenville.

Excellent German Food. Definitely worth a visit. I have only eaten at a handful of German restaurants but this one is the best I have experienced by far. Truly Delicious

Restaurant offers nice ambience and is in a good location. The staff is welcoming. The spaetzle did not taste homemade to me. Schnitzel Wiener Art was not good and was really salty. It was served without bernaise sauce or capers, only a single lemon slice. While this is the German traditional style, I like it with bernaise. Without the sauce it was too dry for my liking. You get no bread with your meal. The draft beer selection is way too limited. This restaurant is okay for a try, but I will not be back even though I love well prepared German food. This was cooked to order so it was freshly made. It just missed the mark for me.

First, make a reservation. If you don’t, you’ll end up either on a stool at the bar, or a stool at a high-top table. Neither of which are comfortable. The bottle beer selection is fairly good, but they only have 4 or so beers on draft, yet one of each principal style of German beer. The house specialty is the Maultaschen. I was not impressed. The ravioli pasta itself was nice, but the meat filling left a lot to be desired. The texture and general taste were off-putting, plus it was also too salty. The Sauerbraten needs work. Perhaps this is how the dish is served in the chef’s part of Germany, but I didn’t really care for it. 1) I thought the taste was overly sour, almost bordering on rancid. 2) It had a brown gravy – almost like turkey gravy, which did not pair at all with the meat. I’m used to sauerbraten having a more red wine/red wine vinegar based gravy, with a hint of sweetness. On the other hand, the brown gravy went quite well with the potato dumplings, which were absolutely stellar! And the red cabbage was quite nice, as well. The dessert menu was underwhelming and not worth perusing. Also, I was disappointed that I had to pay $ 5 for a «side» of bread and butter. And it wasn’t even pumpernickel or rye. Now, the staff are overly nice and accommodating! A wonderful group of folks! I will be back to try explore the bill of fare. Hopefully other selections will be more impressive. Reminder – make a reservation!

Definitely the best Germany food I’ve ever had by far! This place has a great atmosphere and the food was very flavorful. I loved everything I ate(which was a lot) and the service was very helpful in explaining the menu as well. You gotta try this place!

Absolutely phenomenal! Everything from the way we were greeted when we walked in to the ambiance and food was first class. We came here on a recommendation from a German friend of ours and was blown away by the experience. We had a group of seven and all our food came out looking and tasting delicious! The couple who owns the restaurant were inviting and conversational! Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Can’t wait to go back!

I’m a big fan of local authentic restaurants. The Schwauben House stays true to their German heritage with their menu. It is a simple menu without too many choices. The staff does a great job explaining the cuisine and will give heartfelt suggestions. I happily recommend the chicken tenderloins wrapped in bacon, with, of all things, lentils. While a little hesitant at first, the pairing was delicious!
