I’ve bought records from East Coast for six years. There aren’t many shops like this around the country, and there’s none other in eastern North Carolina. They carry new releases on vinyl, with an emphasis on jam bands, prog, bluegrass, metal, and indie. They also participate in Record Store Day, which is cool. The used vinyl has gone downhill recently. It doesn’t look like they buy very often and the same records have been in the stacks and on the walls for almost a year. I don’t blame ‘em. Given that East Coast is kind of an oasis for vinyl in the region, the good stuff always goes fast. They also have over 10,000DVD’s for rent, and a lot of them are only a buck for two nights. Beat that, Red Box! Lots of obscure DVD’s that have long been out of print as well as the latest blockbusters. There’s always good music on the stereo, the staff is helpful and usually friendly(especially shop dog, Woody!), and the owner, Big Jon, works nearly every day to keep this almost thirty-year-old Greenville institution alive. Long live ECMV.

East Coast got me through some boring time in my years at ECU. Since unlike some of my friends I insisted living on campus, so East Coast is really about five minutes walk, which also make last-minute returning movie at midnight quite fun and exciting! Another cool thing about this place is the drive-thru. Yes. Video rental, drive-thru! «Yes. Can I have one Pulp Fiction on DVD, one Six Strings Samurai on VHS, and a side of Pink Floyd«Dark Side of the Moon?» Thank you!

I agree with the review below. You need East Coast to exist. I have some of the best underground memories at East Coast. They’ve held shows where artists from Brooklyn and Seattle. You’ll find a ton of hipsters, which my boyfriend and I found hilarious, but it adds the character to the video store. They have a 1001 movies you need to see list and a cult movie section. They also have CDs and a large collection of viynl records both new and old.

If you live in Greenville you need this store to exist. It is mandatory. I remember a time before Blockbuster, the Best Buy and Netflix, where East Coast was the only place to get decent movies. Even with the competition now working against it, East Coast remains a place where film lovers can go and get access to movies they might not encounter elsewhere in Greenville. They even carry… wait for it… animé. Moreover, there are posters, stickers, and music… as well as other odds and ends that make East Coast a fun place to walk around with your friends. Also they have a drive through drop off… now that is cool.
