They have individual seats for each ticket on the press-​box side. I’m not sure if it’s like that in every seat, but that’s something I appreciate. Nice enough stadium if you’re willing to make the trip to Greenville.

A Friday after Thanksgiving day game, perfect weather, the tents are up, flags are waving, food is being grilled and there’s purple and gold everywhere. You won’t find a better tailgaiting experience anywhere. After the tailgaiting, it’s game time. Purple smoke is pouring out of the tunnel with the huge pirate head above. Purple Haze is playing and it’s Senior Day at ECU. Coach Ruf is hugging everyone of them as they exit the tunnel. Former Pirate, Dwayne Harris is there, the day after playing for the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving. His brother is a senior and everyone is surprised to see him at the game. The large end zone screen starts to play the video of the pirate ship. This will really get you going. One side of the stadium is yelling purple, the other yelling gold. Marshall is the visiting team. The 4^th quarter starts with another video with the NO Quarter flag being raised. This game ends up being a double overtime thriller that ends with a ECU victory, 65 to 59. If you ever attend one of these games, you will understand why they call it Pirate Nation. This is North Carolina’s football team.

Love, love, love this place. If your looking for a fun day, get yourself some tickets to an ECU football game. And its not just about the football in Greenville — the tailgating is second to none. I read an article the other day that ranked the atmosphere at Dowdy-​Ficklen as one of the most underrated in college football. The team entrance alone is worth the trip… nothing like a little «Purple Haze» to get a football game started.
The school just recently expanded the stadium, bringing the capacity to slightly over 50,000. The new addition looks great, and the Pirates always put on a show. Check it out if you’re a football fan — you won’t be dissappointed.
