Great gym. Shady business practices. Buyer beware. Signed up month to month during no contract-signing fee period. $ 30/mo, I thought. Great. Gym itself has everything you need: classes, cardio, weights, locker room, and a sauna. Even better. Then we moved and getting to the gym would be a 20 mile trip, not so great. I read the crappy reviews about not being able to get out of Coop’s easily. but thought hey, if I follow the rules, should be pretty easy. Wrong. Coop’s business-end has been terrible every step of the way. First, when I signed up, they emailed me a copy of my ‘contract’ which was a broken link. When I tried to reach out to them to get a copy to see what I had signed up for, no one responded to me and I never received one. To get out you have to call another company. I received my membership agreement number from them and had to send, by certified mail, a written 30 day notice of my intent to cancel my membership. I sent the letter and paid my last $ 30 for the next month. The next day I got hit with a $ 25 fee from Coop’s fitness on top of the $ 30. My boyfriend informed me that it had happened to him too, and when he called to ask about it, the financial services company explained to him it was a twice yearly ‘maintenance fee’. For me that’s the last straw. I’m surprised a local, and admittedly decent gym could have such poor business practices.

Great equipment. I didn’t like the mean mugging ambiance of the gym members. You’ll be able to stomach a membership if you never plan on leaving coops. This gym is like the Hotel California, it’s easy to get into, but impossible to leave/cancel. You’re trapped there even if you have a month to month«no contract» membership. They make it very inconvenient to cancel. Would not recommend.

Great equipment, never too packed and the staff never hounds you. Not too mention the price and hours are great!

We just started using Coops about two months ago after membership costs at our old gym got out of control. I like to work out in the mornings, and Coops is open 24 hours through the week, so I can go when it’s convenient for me(usually between 5 and 5:30AM). They have a childcare program, which is nice, and it’s only $ 10 per month. Childcare is open all day, so it’s a great option if you are trying to work out with a little one in tow. This is your basic, no frills gym — plenty of cardio equipment, a great assortment of weights and some classes. They push their personal training when you sign up, but, as someone with a preestablished workout regiment, I didn’t use it. However, I have a friend who does use it and has gotten great results, but she was never really an exerciser before joining. The staff seems friendly. The front desk clerk in the mornings knows most of the«regulars» by name and speaks when you enter and exit. I wish they had sweat towels or rags available for use, but, for the money we are saving in membership cost, I can bring my own. The showers are clean and the locker rooms are standard. One thing I have noticed here that wasn’t quite as apparent at my old gym is a lack of gym etiquette. If there are 15 empty treadmills, I hate having someone take the one right beside me. Also, people tend not to re-rack their weights or they will be «using» multiple pieces of equipment simultaneously — in essence, reserving one or two pieces while they truely use something else. Obviously this isn’t management’s fault or the fault of the gym itself, but rudeness does tend to bother me and a lot of the people at Coops could use a few lessons from Miss Manners. Overall, I’m happy with the switch.
