Ayers Leather Shop

The store recently moved just a few feet away to West North Street (literally just around the corner from its prior location, and across from Rush Wilson). It’s a Greenville institution. I’ve just bought small things here such as cards but have always been warmly welcomed.
Madelyn A was clearly having a bad day when she wrote her review, and the store has since relocated and been updated anyhow.

LEATHER SHOULD BE THE STAR!
This little shop is so confusing because it has «leather» in its name, yet the window displayS shows umbrellas in one window and large wood carvings in the other window. Huh? If leather is your specialty, it should be front and center. As we entered the store, we really didn’t see the leather goods until we got to the back of the store. There are some things that stand out in this store, the very nice, polite young employee who greeted us as we entered the store and the general condition of the store.
The store seems to be very neglected and poor shape. The carpet appeared to be about 50 years old with large stains while items on the shelves were very dated and dusty. The young man stated that the store had been in existence for 65 years and it really shows. I adore leather goods but found myself uninterested in the items in this store because of their general condition.
The store needs to be better organized with the leather goods placed toward the front of the store since this is a leather store. The very dated items on the shelves should be donated while the remaining items need to be cleaned and creatively displayed. The carpet needs to be replaced but at the very least cleaned. Those window displays need to be changed to reflect the leather items that are being offered for sale.
They have a policy that says «no cash refunds» so I would definitely not use cash in this store.
With a little love, this store could probably be a great resource because every downtown needs a leather shop that specializes in sales and repair. With a little care and attention, this store could be be a great resource.

Wonderful people with a great shop in downtown Greenville. Had to resize our dog’s collar. Took 5 minutes.
When I went to pay, I was told there would be no charge — they only asked me to come back, shop, and bring the dog. ;) So happy to have a go to leather goods shop for our future business needs!
