Apple Spice Junction USED to be my favorite sandwich place in Greensboro. My opinion has changed. I haven’t been back here since my boyfriend was given the most pathetic looking pastrami sandwich on the face of the earth. I decided to give it another go, as its been about 6 months. I go in and order my usual BLT Deluxe with frog eye salad to go. I upgraded my box, and made sure my order was correct before I paid. As I was getting my drink, I was told they were out of avocado, and would I like cucumber instead(NOT a price or taste trade, but I accepted). Then, they yelled across the dining room that they did have avocado. So, I got my avocado after all. I got home, and the first thing I notice is that my sandwich is smaller than it used to be. Guess they’re using smaller portions instead of raising prices. Not TOO big of a deal. As I was eating my sandwich(which had cucumber on it still, which I’m okay with), I kept waiting for the avocado. I got one measly slice on there. SUPER! I order the deluxe FOR the avocado. I reach into my box for my frog eye salad, and pull out pasta salad. I do not order pasta salad or potato salad because I’m not a fan of either. I am a fan of frog eye salad… which I had to go without today. I ate a few bites of the pasta salad, but mayo based pasta salads are the ones I REALLY don’t like, so I had to stop. I pulled out my pickle. It tasted like a bread and bitter pickle, not a dill pickle. Yuck yuck yuck. I pulled out my vegetable bag. They decreased the amount of vegetables they are giving. The cucumber slices were about ¼ of what they used to be, and watery around the edges. The broccoli looked sad, and the green ranch is not what it used to be. Okay, dessert time. Noticed first this that there wasn’t much cherry topping on it… I’m okay with that. I can do without the cherries. I start eating. Guess who got the piece of cheesecake that was half-frozen…me! Still tasted good though. I’m sure after reading all this you’re wondering why I would give it two stars instead of one: –the staff is still as friendly as ever and try to accommodate you if possible(i.e., letting me know they were out of avocado and asking to sub cukes) –they haven’t messed up their bag of Lay’s chips yet(an obvious joke… how could they mess that up?) –I got a York peppermint patty instead of a mint to «freshen» my breath… who doesn’t prefer those to mints?!? So, pretty much, this place is now hit or miss. I won’t be trying to get a decent meal here anytime soon, but feel free to try for yourself.

Lunch again, decided to try this place. Chicken Caesar for about $ 11. Not utterly horrible, but my money will go somewhere else. Chicken breast was small and looked as though it came from one of those bags full of pre-frozen breasts and microwaved before hitting my plate. Salad was small for the price and was soggy and wet. I’d bet the price of the lunch the boiled egg hadn’t been boiled that day. Dressing was less than average Spend your money elsewhere.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. They cater for an employer often with boxed lunches that consist of plastic wrapped sandwiches, cookie, chips, and an apple. The only decent part is the Lays chips and that’s because they are prepackaged! I’ve personally gotten very sick off eating one of their sandwiches. I would never pay to eat here, nor could you pay me to eat here again.

It doesn’t look like much from the street & they do a lot of catering, but they have a great oasis inside. If you want to go somewhere for lunch where you can hear each other talk & find a table that’s clean, this is the place. It is certainly 1 of Greensboro’s hidden lunch treasures. They make a mean sandwich and greet with a smile. Bravo!
