The Andrew

This hotel was ok — not my best experience and far from my worst. The issues I had were minor but it made my stay just three stars. First, I drover by about three times, if you don’t look UP, you will never see the sign and though your GPS will say arrived… you will not spot the hotel because it is perched on a little hill and if you look left and right all you see are parked cars. I literally had to call the hotel and the front desk girl remained on the phone with me while I circled the block yet again and she said turn left and go up the hill once she spotted my car. Seriously, this wouldn’t have been so stressfull but this hotel is on a very busy intersection. There are pedestrians coming from all directions and they just step out into traffic. There are people exiting a train station on both foot and in cars and just the general traffic that comes with any community in the congested American North East.
The property itself is old, but looks like it was recently refreshed with some new furnishings and decorations. The room was clean, there were plenty of towels and nice toiletries. They only have valet parking which is a pain in the butt if you leave something in your car and just want to grab that one little thing.
I don’t like the fact that they made a photo copy of my drivers license. I travel a lot for work… a lot. I stay in hotels weekly and I don’t recall the last time someone photo copied my drivers license. The guy who checked me in was training, so check in was slow and painful. I think I made everything worse when the girl who helped me find the hotel told me the gym closed at 9 and it was like 7:45 already. At that point I told the guy he needs to hustle and I don’t think that expedited the process. There is an honor bar in the room, there are over priced snacks and waters available… also in the room. Be warned if you have low self control be prepared to pay $ 4.00 for a bag of m&m’s. There is NO FRIDGE in the room, so if you are like me and brought a kombucha or two for the next day be prepared to either fill the ice bucket or drink them both right away.
The girl at the front desk was helpful, she told me about the gym and when I asked her about food she told me what was available. Apparently the entire town of Great Neck shuts down at 8 or 9pm on a week night. DaFuq??? When I asked her what was up with that she said they are a quiet town. OK, I don’t live in the wild west but at least everything is open until 11 or midnight. Geez. I would stay here again, it was pretty inexpensive and I was literally only here over night.

They just lost business for packages and a booking of 3 rooms, all because the front desk person, or whoever answers their line who had absolutely NO idea what’s being offered at the hotel, or nearby attractions. She gave me the wrong pricing info on a different package from the one I asked about.
She also put me on hold twice, for minutes at a time. If I didn’t know better, sounds like a kid who’s still in High School who’s trying to make some cash.
Not a good look for this hotel… doesn’t scream travel and tourism whatsoever.

Very poor customer service. During checkout (early morning, Thursday, Dec. 10) the desk clerk didn’t even have the diplomacy to hide that he was sending this goober up to my room to see what I’d used off the «honor bar», to know what to tack onto my bill. I understand a little bit of that, but be professional and discreet. Don’t tell the goober to put down his broom and dustpan, go up and check, and then get a call from him right in front of me saying, «Yup, he DID use up something», then make sure I admit I had cashews and a packet of chocolate chip cookies, after I just paid 175.00 for the room for one night. Talk about trashy. The room was nice and clean, but that’s the only good I can say.

I would probably be giving The Andrew 3 stars except for a couple major factors that greatly improved my stay. I will get to those shortly.
I was staying in Great Neck for business and The Andrew is literally the only hotel nearby so it was a logical choice — not cheap ($ 219 /​night mid week) but it’s Long Island so what do you expect? The valet-​only parking at $ 13 /​night seemed a bit inconvenient but turned out to be a blessing — will explain soon.
The negatives: despite ample square footage, the room layout was not very conducive for working. The small desk was the only place to work and eat. My king room had a seemingly nice kitchen area with sink, cabinets and Keurig but was virtually useless since there were only 2 mugs. 1 plastic coffee stirrer, 2 sugar packets, a very small selection of Keurig pods, and an old looking packet of non dairy creamer. All of the cabinetry seemed like kind of a waste of space since there wasn’t even so much as a plate or fork.
My primary complaint, however, is the noise. My room faced the back of the building which presented 2 major problems: extremely bright outside lights that shone into my room ALL NIGHT and worse, train travelers and workers making tons of noise until nearly 2am. There were people chatting, babies crying, car horns blaring, and what sounded like trash trucks operating and the noise was nearly unbearable. On top of that, as an older hotel, the walls at The Andrew are thin and the people in the neighboring room were insanely loud as well. I heard their baby crying, their door slamming and their toilet flushing all night long.
The good stuff: the hotel was very clean and the location is great. Once my car was tucked away for the night, it was a 5 minute walk to any restaurant in town. The bath products are some of the nicest I have seen! I wish I had an entire gallon of their pink grapefruit shower gel. The towels were big and fluffy and my king sized bed was very comfortable with four HUGE pillows and a giant neck roll. Although working at the tiny desk was annoying, my room was large with plenty of space to spread out.
But the REAL reason that The Andrew Hotel gets bumped to 4 stars is Willie — one of their valets — and truly, one of the kindest, sweetest gentleman I have ever met. When he brought my car around on Thursday morning we chatted for a few minutes and he was very upset that I was heading to my office without having had any of the free continental breakfast. Appreciative, I explained that it was a stressful trip and there was no time. The following morning when I went downstairs, my rental car was already outside waiting for me. Inside, was my breakfast: fresh fruit and a yogurt that Willie had grabbed from the continental buffet and gently placed on my passenger seat. I was speechless.
We live in a world where people rarely even say so much as «good morning» and are surrounded by so much apathy that such a thoughtful act is truly amazing. Employees like Willie — humans like Willie — are a rarity these days and should never go unmentioned. I took just one photo during my stay in Great Neck and it’s of Willie — world’s best valet and one of the kindest men you will ever have the privilege of meeting.
If you stay at The Andrew, please take a few minutes to say hi to him, ok? And don’t forget to tip your valets :)

An older hotel in Great Neck/​Kings Point. Clean rooms, no gym and only has valet parking which is very annoying. It is in a great location if visiting USMMA or the town of Great Neck, I think it is one of only 2 hotels in the town area,

The Andrew was chosen as a hotel for a wedding that my boyfriend and I are going to attend. There was a July 14^th cut off date for guests to secure a $ 179 wedding rate room. I call before the July 14^th cut off date. I was told that there was a waiting list and that they would call if a room opened up.
Four days prior to the wedding The Andrew called and informed me that a room opened if we were interested in still booking. I called back and confirmed that we would like to book it. I was then told that the room would cost $ 229 and that they would not honor the $ 179 rate. I asked why and the manager, Corinne Doria, said that she was not going to honor the wedding rate because I was on the waiting list and that she needed to meet a weekend sale revenue figure so it was set at a higher rate. This infuriated me because she put her sales before wedding party guests who met the deadline for the $ 179 rate.
Corinne Doria went on to say that she would only offer the room at the $ 229 rate and let the people on the waiting «fight it out for that price.» Completely ridiculous, inflexible, and unprofessional, Corinne was rude.
I would strongly recommend against choosing to use the Andrew as a hotel for your wedding party or even an one night stay for another reason. Wish I could give it zero stars because the customer service there is TRASH!

Yuck! This hotel advertises itself as a small, luxury, boutique hotel, but it is really a small, old, shabby hotel with oddly purple colored walls. I booked a room here for a work trip since there aren’t many hotels in the area. When I checked in and went to my room I was immediately assaulted with the scent of old sweaty gym shoes. My room for some reason smelled rank and musty. The single window opened a few inches and the wall AC didn’t seem to do much to dehumidify the room or even cool it down. The carpet looked like it hadn’t been vacuumed prior to my arrival and the bed was older and not terribly comfortable. The bathroom was tiny and fixtures old. Also, some how, my room had several fruit flies in it. I asked the front desk to ask the cleaning crew to please please please vacuum my room… and they didn’t. I think this hotel is trying very hard to a be a nicer hotel… but really missed the mark. Sorry, The Andrew, purple walls and dinged and dented «modern» furniture do not cover up the dinginess and weird sweat/​mold smell that permeates the place. I do not plan to stay here again.

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL! I had stayed here previously and had noticed that since they opened in the early 2000’s they have not put any money into the place and that it has been slowly but surely deteriorating. The final straw was that for the first time in 15 years of business travel I made a reservation, prepaid it, they called me to confirm my reservation, and then I show up after a late night flight into LaGuardia Airport that was delayed, only to be told that they had oversold the rooms and had no room for me. They been proceeded to try and send me out into the night to some hotel in another town that I’ve never heard of. I would give 0 stars but for the fact that you have to give one star on Unilocal.Stay there at your own risk, assuming of course that they honor the reservation.

I stayed here for 1 night as my flight was cancelled after a 7 hour delay, which made it around 10pm. I got a voucher to stay at The Andrew, so there was no cost to me except for the taxi from/​to LGA ($ 50 each way). I got to the hotel after midnight, and was promptly checked in with no problems. The room was clean, the bed large (and no bed bugs, I always check), a modern TV and working wifi internet!
Traveling by myself, the internet allowed me to call my family via Skype and the TV kept me company while my anxiety was high. The bathroom looked a bit worn-​out, but their products smelled nice. I got the key for the mini bar as I was starving, and there was only drinks in it — so I ended up having a $ 3 bottle of water since I was so tired and dehydrated.
There is a free continental breakfast included, I was exhausted but I got up early to eat something small. There is a single-​serve coffee machine (also one in the room), juices, pasties, cereal, etc. It wasn’t exciting but it made me feel a little better and then I went back to sleep until I had to check out.
Check out was disorganized, there was a lot of us from cancelled flights. Basically I signed on the dotted line and was told they’d email me a receipt of the in-​room charges. The email didn’t arrive until I emailed them and requested one.
The staff was helpful in getting taxis for everyone, but some could use a refresher course on manners.

Touted as a boutique hotel, this place is more like a dressed up and overpriced Best Western. I found the room online for about $ 100, and am not quite sure it’s worth $ 80. You have to pay for parking ($ 14), which was the nail in the coffin on this one for me. The only saving graces for me were the decent mattress and the extremely central location.

Summary: After a one weekend stay here during the winter, I would give the other local hotels a shot before I returned here.
Pros:
— Price was very reasonable, especially the prepaid deal.
— Great staff and customer service
— Big living areas in the rooms, I could stay here a week and not feel cramped in the living area in room.
— Reasonably priced, well stocked mini-​bar
— Lots of closet /​storage space
— Super close to Long Island Railroad train stop (20 mins to the city)
— Super close to lots of food /​drink options in the downtown area. Try great neck diner for a low key breakfast or lunch. Burger Village was excellent too.
Cons:
— Tub doesn’t drain, you will stand in dirty bathwater (at least in my room)
— Bathtub controls are dated and hard to get really hot water
— Bus stop out front. You can hear buses all day and evening, revving engines, idling, coming and going. I was awoken at 7am on a Sat morning by 2 buses revving. Get a room that doesn’t face the front of the hotel to avoid this.
— TV is static filled and poor quality
— Lots of hallway noise and doors opening and slamming
— Valet is mandatory, no self parking on site
— There is a carpet in the bath… yuck. Whomever was there before you has most certainly left their essence on this carpet. Barf.
— Dark carpet and bedspread really lends itself to the possibility that you have time traveled back to the 1970s. Leads to a dark room, dark feel, dark experience.
— wi-​fi is so slow as to make it unusable.
— Counter space in the bathroom is at a premium. Bathroom reminds me of a miami beach hotel in terms of bathroom space.

1^st class… was there for the storm of the century. Everyone was helpful and wonderful… especially Frank and Willie. I will never forget my time here. It has character and charm don’t ever change …

Very dirty hotel. The bathrooms are not well cleaned.
Beds are not properly done. I stayed there 20 times in the past 4 months & my observation is constant. Despite getting the most expensive rooms in the hotel which is the king suite, still they did not keep up with better standards.
Pricy for the very poor services they provide. Parking is expensive too.
Search for nearby hotels in Roslyn instead.

hotel was within walking distance to some great restaurants. the blond girl was rude and uppity but the men working the desk were very helpful. When checking out, they asked if we wanted receipt emailed to us and we still haven’t recieved it 3 days later. Room was nice, bed was comfy, amenites were nice. kind of noisy in the morning with doors slamming.

Nice hotel in an area that you can walk to dinner, some shopping and drinks. There arent many hotels in this area and the Andrews is clean, modern and sade feeling. I wouldn’t say its quite a high end boutique hotel as I felt it was pretty comparable to a nice hampton inn.

Minus the weekday gridlock, the North Shore of LI was actually quite pleasant this weekend. We stayed at The Andrew, within short walking distance of the LIRR Great Neck Station, and some very good shops and restaurants.
The Andrew was a pleasant surprise; a true-​to-​style boutique hotel so deeply enmeshed in downtown Great Neck that it is very easy to drive by without noticing its presence. The hotel is compact and very European in styling, room size and layout. The most striking favorable attribute we noticed was the exceptionally outgoing and friendly nature of all hotel personnel we met.
Rooms are cozy; certainly not large, but not small either, and clean. A basic (but welcomed) Continental breakfast is offered each morning on the 2^nd floor. Beds were comfortable, and bathroom toiletries varied and of a high quality. Plush cotton terry robes are a very nice added touch.
Although we would welcome the opportunity to return to The Andrew, there are a few points which detract:
1. I realize that parking is at a premium in this neighborhood, and while I hate valet parking, they did a very good job of having my car ready quickly. $ 12/​night is, however, just too expensive when rooms at The Andrew are already far from cheap;
2. Our room was literally overloaded with after-​sale items, to the point of having to clear them aside before we could unpack. Again, the excesses make an otherwise understandable practice unreasonable;
3. The quantity of paperwork when registering is, once again, grossly excessive and the process, slow;
4. The flat-​panel television was of a high quality (LG), but whatever advantage was lost to what appeared to be an extremely low-​end satellite (cable?) service. The end result was static on almost all stations;
5. Yes, Wi-​Fi is free, but rendered virtually useless by some extremely antiquated system policies. While there are no log-​in or password requirements, each website which I attempted to access required that I first access the hotel’s acceptance policy screen. Having to do this five or six times in an hour reached the «why bother» stage on our first night at The Andrew. Local 4G service was actually much faster than their Wi-​Fi.
The Andrew does appear to be attentive to many details of a pleasant guest experience, making these oversights even more glaring. I hope that this work-​in-​process finishes the job, as this was a good hotel choice.

As a thank-​you gift for my ring lol, I treated my H2B to a night at The Andrew. Groupon had a sweet deal for one night with a rose petal turndown, bottle of champagne, box of chocolates and breakfast! And what a sweet deal indeed!
About 4 days before we checked in for the night, I received a call from The Andrew asking me if I needed recommendations for dinner in the area… kudos for that! For a 61-​room boutique hotel, all the amenities were available, including valet parking, high speed internet, flat screen tv, 24-​hour concierge service, sweet smelling toiletries, bathrobes, etc. Breakfast was good, which was located in one of the rooms-​turned-​breakfast nook. Choice of cold and hot cereal, bagels, toast, coffee k-​cups and fruit.
Not too close and not too far from home, we enjoyed our date night. Thanks Andrew Hotel for an enjoyable stay.

Ok, 2 stars is harsh, but I have high standards for hotels and this hotel misses the mark in some key areas. We usually stay at The Inn at Great Neck and will stick with that hotel in the future. I would stay at The Andrew if the aforesaid property was sold out.
Pros: Comfy bed, great location, inexpensive mini bar, good breakfast, clean.
Cons: Dark modern décor (made the room dark), small bathroom, closet isn’t separate – it’s a curtained off portion of the room, no hotel restaurant so room service is limited per hours of the restaurant next door, service is a little lackluster.
I think the crowning «offense» is that they wouldn’t extend checkout by even half an hour.

The hotel isn’t your typical large chain hotel. As the reception at the front desk told a guy over the phone as I was checking in, we are a small boutique hotel with 62 rooms.
The décor is modern with adequate sized rooms. Clean and nice smelling toiletries.
Good location with restaurants and shops nearby. A kid friendly park a block behind the hotel. No bar on site doesn’t really bother me.
Free wireless and complimentary breakfast are always winners for me.
Only valet parking is a downside. And the front desk staff aren’t super professional but get the job done.
I would stay here again.
