Delicious coffee, exceptional service and family owned. The staff are all awesome humans, remembering the usuals drinks greeting almost everyone by name(Perks of a small town). Ty the blended white mocha with Carmel sauce and I promise your life will be changed forever. PS. Next time you go in, join the mailing list. It may or may not be the super secret free coffee list. Your welcome.(:

Reasonable coffee, bit cramped and a little grubby and the staff aren’t super friendly unless you are a regular local. I will go back but I honestly cant rave about them.

They should be in prison for the coffee they serve… worst coffee ever… and the shop is soooooo dirty… dirt and dust everywhere… my cup was dirty my table was dirty and when I asked the help to wipe my table she came back with a filthy rag and smeared old coffee ground all over my table and walked away and rolled her eyes at me… never going back EVER!!!

I usually go in just to get my coffee beans and every time I have been there the staff is so knowledgeable and very professional. Wouldn’t want to go anywhere else.

Caroline’s Coffee Roasters in Grass Valley was a perfect place to escape a cold November afternoon. I knew i was in a good place when I saw the sign, «Roasting on these premises since 1984» and a variety of coffee beans for sale.(The«Family owned and operated» sign didn’t hurt either.) I was going to order a Caramel Macchiato but was cautioned by the barista that they make it the traditional way(i.e. not the Starbucks way), and after he described it, I opted for the Mocha latte instead, and appreciated the personal touch they showed. My wife ordered an apricot square baked item. Butcher block tables and upholstered chairs are a cut above your normal coffee shop and seating options. Both the latte and the apricot square were tasty and hit the spot. They carry an impressive selection of coffee accessories, including some specialty items not often seen. I was pleased to find replacement filters for my beloved Aeropress coffeemaker. On-premise roasting, attentive service, great coffee and treats — well worth a stop for coffee lovers if you are in the Grass Valley area.

Always friendly staff and consistent flavor of drinks. Not too long of a wait for a morning break.

I have tried coffee from many different places, Starbucks and artisan shops alike, I’ve done cuppings, etc. This was by far the worst cup of coffee I have ever had. I ordered the dark roast thinking that it would be more of a medium strength(I like a strong cup and I’m skeptical). It tasted like under-steeped tea, and had a positively burnt flavor. I even decided to ask the person working the bar if it was the right roast, or if it had been properly brewed.(I NEVER approach the server/barista etc. if I have unsatisfactory food/drinks. It’s just not something that I do. But this was SOSO weak and bad that I honestly thought that there had been a mistake with the brewing process.)

Typical coffee shop but neat to watch them roast their own beans. Had an iced coffee which was better, and stronger, than SB. Maybe the more negative reviews come from real coffee connoisseurs, but as a Midwesterner looking for a nice cup as I finish up some work(on their free wifi) before heading to the airport, this place is just right. Plus, it’s super close to the Holiday Inn so you can easily walk over for a hit if the free hotel joe doesn’t float your boat.

We adore this place. What a great stop for locals and visitors alike! The staff is fantastic. There really isn’t any parking to speak of or they would’ve received five stars from me. Yes, I could stand the walk but I’d go there more often if there was somewhere to park close by.

A very nice atmosphere. I went to grab a coffee and use the WiFi being I don’t have access to it otherwise. I was there for a couple of hours and they didn’t seem to mind! I’ll be stopping by here again to try out different things on the menu.

I love supporting the locals and it’s easy to pass up Starbucks when we have Caroline’s! Cozy atmosphere, delightful staff and amazing coffee. They also have a nice deli selection for a quick bite on the go. Also one of my favorite local spots for gifts.

Best coffee place in downtown Grass Valley, but only by default. It meets the minimums in every category, but doesn’t impress in any one area. Good coffee, not great. Decent snacks and bagels. Good amount of seating. Free wi-fi with no password. Friendly staff.

Really sweet baristas and good quality coffee with tons of options. Sat here for a few hours with my husband on a Sunday morning reading the paper and it was a very enjoyable atmosphere.

By far the weakest coffee I’ve ever had. I gave it a few tries because it’s local, but last time I was there I literally took two drinks of the warm water they call coffee, threw it in the trash and drove all the way across town to Starbucks and bought a coffee with some flavor… No wonder Starbucks was packed(50 plus people), with 12 – 15 people in line and Caroline’s literally had 4 people in the place with no line at all… So if you like ultra weak coffee and employees that would rather gossip with each other than ring you up, Caroline’s is definitely your place…

Nice downtown location. We chose to do pour over but I didn’t like either coffee we got. We got the selowese(light roast) and sumatra(medium roast). It was just bland and both served lukewarm. The staff was super nice at least and helpful. The casino carpet was a turn off haha.

This place is great. The coffee is taken very seriously here. You can find me here most mornings with a cup of coffee in hand. With my own mug, the total usually runs to $ 1.50. Don’t get me started on their wifi, lightning quick. The staff that is responsible for the day to day are very fast and happy. I love starting my day off here. Very cozy place, and I can smell the coffee roasting from inside my house early in morning so that’s a bonus. The only downside is the owner, he’s an obnoxious oafish man. His smug demeanor and loud cellphone talk ruins the atmosphere. Although I rarely see him. So that’s good. The flour garden bakery is closer to my home but Caroline’s is worth the walk and is easier on the wallet(but not by much). 5 outta 5 stars for me!

I wish I could give Caroline’s more than two stars because I like the service and it’s got a good ambiance. However, «coffee» is in title of the business and their coffee just ain’t strong enough. Out of all of their eight blends, none are in league with Peet’s or Starbucks. Yeah, that’s right… Starbucks! Come on Caroline, if Starbucks can make me a decent cup of joe, why can’t you? I like tea and I like coffee, but this watered-down in-between stuff? «Eek, me thinks not.» I’ve dumped too many cups of Caroline’s down the sink and I hope they’ll catch on and start making a brew that needs to be watered down by the townsfolk who like their coffee weak but can satisfy those of us who like it stronger.

Coffee was very good. Place is very spacious, with lots of equipment and coffee and tea-related paraphernalia to buy. Pretty neat. Staff was pleasant. There were some kids watching Harlem shake videos at about thousand decibels in a corner, but the joint is big enough that we were across the room and only minimally bothered.(Full disclosure: I’m a bit crotchety). Verdict: Walking around Grass Valley, need a pick me up? Totally GO to Carolines.
