Great, great, great food!!! Wonderful staff. The portions of the food served is A LOT and worth every penny. This place is not pricey at all. But is worth every cent. We live a half hour away and it is worth the drive to eat at this diner. This is a real diner and the diner is very well designed and cozy.

Wow step back in time at this gem of a place. Happy days live again. Yep a 50’s and 60’s a style diner. Stopped for a late breakfast early lunch with my wife and was kind of puzzled that the place was relatively empty. Food was good, service was fast, prices are little higher because it’s on the road to OXB. The Place is decorated with all kinds of great from the 50’s and 60’s. We had a pleasant experience enjoyed our the walk down memory lane.

Food is amazing, good quality and quantity for the price. Amazing service with a small diner feel. Perfect spot on the road to and from the outer banks, and it is even open on Saturday and Sunday.

On our way to paradise, we stopped at Mel’s Diner, an establishment where time stands still and makes you yearn for a simpler time in our history. The food was surprisingly good and there was something on the menu for the whole family. Burgers, salads, sandwiches… kids will love the platters served in a cardboard retro car. Service was excellent! I was waiting for the Fonz to arrive, but couldn’t wait around long enough because my «Happy Days» were going to be spent at my beach vacation destination. This is the perfect stop right before the stretch to the Outer Banks.

The food was good, but the time it took to get our food was ridiculous! Our waitress said that the order didn’t go through, she did offer us something in return, but turned it down because we didn’t have time to wait for it either! Prices are high though…$ 34 for 4 ppl(2 were kids) and all we had were burgers n fries! Probably won’t go back.

Not sure why some of the comments say closed. Just stopped here the other day. Service was great and the staff was very friendly. The food is standard diner. I’d love to see them kick it up a notch with some more creative food options and some dancing waitstaff. I’d come here again.

French fries were great the service was good but the burger was horrible. You could tell it was a frozen patty not fresh. Very disappointing.

This was the 2nd «Mel’s Diner» I’ve enjoyed this year: the first in Gatlinburg, TN and now in NC. On our way home from OBX, how could I not stop by Mel’s? Although breakfast is served all day, Friday night was catfish night so I ordered a fried catfish sandwich and my sister ordered the burger. Both baskets of food came out hot and fresh; the fries just came out of the fryer. The service and food were great — your all-time diner experience. A great stop on our way home. I think this will be a goal in my life: to find and dine at Mel’s Diner.

Awesome place and great service. New owners recently took over and still better than ever. Everyone is super friendly. Great portioned meals. And not expensive at all.

Food was alright but nothing special. Got Reuben with onion rings, lemonade tasted like mix. My friend found a hair in her salad but they took it off the bill. Mediocre food and kind of pricey. Be prepared for lots of 50’s music which gets old quickly.

Real biscuits and inexpensive. Servings are big and yummy! We had a large group, so between all of us we had ordered pancakes, eggs, bacon, breakfast burrito, sausage, biscuits, french toast, and it was all delicious! Pancakes and biscuits were especially great! Friendly, welcoming staff and the cutest grandma as our waitress! We loved her! Definitely worth the trip!

I have the good fortune of living across the street from Mel’s and we have breakfast and lunch there often. The food is consistently very good, the service is fast and friendly. My favorites are the Reuben, and the meatloaf sandwich. The milkshakes are wonderful. One of Mel’s shakes = 2 McDonald’s; they are quite generous and taste so much better than anything you get from Micky D. My only complaint is that on the weekends, I can’t get across the street for all the traffic, so I have to wait till Monday.

Great place to grab lunch on the way home from the outer banks. The cheeseburgers and fries were awesome! The coffee was good too! They have picnic tables outside in the shade, which worked out great because we didn’t want to leave our dog in the car. The staff was really nice too!

Perfect stop on the way to Norfolk from OBX. Bear in mind that it’s a diner that specializes in burgers and shakes. Service was friendly and fast-ish –far from the best I’ve ever had, but this is a roadside diner in the south and we knew that going in. We ordered cheeseburgers, which they serve medium-well or well-done. They give you a lot of food –it tasted good. I got a side salad, which was comparable to what you’d get at a typical pizza place. We left having spent $ 20 with full bellies, completely satisfied.

This place kind of sucked. Food was not that good, vents blowing right on us, COUNTRYTIMELEMONADE?! Just wrong! Sorry guys. This looks like a nice little mom and pops diner but i felt like our food was prepared with shortcuts.

The nicest people on the OBX! My girlfriend and I stopped on our bikes on the way down to Hatteras. Unfortunately I had a breakdown and even though they were closing and it was New Years Eve they brought us hot chocolate and gave me a save place to leave the bike if we couldn’t get it fixed(we did.) Their kindness and friendliness made a trying situation so much better. If you’re on your bike I recommend you stop in and get some hot chocolate! Thanks for being so great to us.

Great lunch spot on the way too or from OBX. I was a bit disappointed as they don’t have a «traditional» diner menu. Mostly salads, sandwiches and burgers. Excellent fast and friendly!
