Being a sushi fan, I feel I only have a few choices in Grand Rapids. If I want quantity over quality, Ming Ten fits the bill, but you have to pick the time to go just right so the goods are fresh. Sometimes, buffets feel like standing in line at a prison cafeteria and it’s somewhat chaotic. Then, for the tea and crumpets crowd, there’s the pricy Tokyo Grill, which is first class sushi, but your wallet will be much lighter when you leave. Goldilocks picked the middle option and usually, so do I. Fujiyama is much classier than Ming Ten, but less pricy than Tokyo Grill. I find their sushi to be excellent, if not fully superb. My only advice is to avoid the Sunday all-you-can eat sushi because it’s about double the price as the same option on Saturday. They have Sapporo beer on tap, which is pretty solid and the atmosphere works for date night. I eat here a lot and I wish I tried it a few years ago. I usually put a whuppin’ on the all-you-can-eat sushi since I eat like a starved great white shark, but I tip well, so they’ve never thrown me out.

Great, extensive menu, excellent service, willing to answer questions. Sushi was some of the best I’ve had. Egg Drop Soup was hands down the best I’ve ever had — would be worth going again just for that.

We sushi-rolled out of here after an all you can eat binge. When you go in with eyes bigger than your stomach, you’ll pay for it later(literally! — they charge you if you don’t finish everything). Starting with the tempura shrimp and fried calamari, we had our all you can eat appetites started. Then, the rolls arrived. Beautifully presented, you can’t go wrong with any of the special rolls. Fresh fish, tempura shrimp, soft shelled crab, veg and more, Fuji Yama has a great selection. Even though we were stuffed, the green tea and red bean ice cream was just the right amount of sweetness to end the meal.

After a couple of visits to Sakura back at Fuji Yama. Very warm welcome back from all the waitresses. Dinner should be good again as well!

I’ve been here many times and the food is always good. I have not tried the hibachi yet, but it is something I would like to try soon. I always get the mango orange chicken, but they have many curry dishes as well(and sushi of course). If you’re getting bored of P.F. Changs and want to try something new, I recommend giving Fuji Yama a chance!

Very tasty. Hibachi was fun. The Mojito was good. Had the garlic chicken with green beans, very tasty.

I went there with my husband for dinner and ordered two types of rolls, they came out on a beautiful display. The rolls were delicious and so was the calamari, but not the best we’ve ever had. Prices were on the higher end so i think we paid more for the presentation than the food.

2.5 stars actually. We went there around 8:20 and we went for the all you can eat option. Our server forgot a couple stuff we ordered but the staff were already cleaning up so we didn’t bother to ask again. Food was alright. Nothing too awful or great.

Maybe its the sushi rice. Maybe its the quality of the fish served. Maybe its both. I am an avid sushi fan, but this place tastes different, and not in a good way. I really have enjoyed Japanese Food and culture in Japan and recommend you go if given the chance. I have been to Fuji Yama several times and my impression is always the same. Its different. It just doesn’t taste right. If I had to guess I would say the rice is the first problem(difference) Whatever, the taste here does not taste as good as other venues I go to in Grand Rapids. I would choose not to go back.

I went there for sushi because me friend said they had the best sushi in Grand Rapids and it was pretty good quality sushi. I had the sweetheart roll and she had the crunch roll. The sweetheart roll was decently sized and was pretty good, not the best I’ve ever had but certainly nowhere close to the worst. And my friend had the crunch roll, hers was huge and way better than mine and if I went back I’d get that. The presentation was amazing, they really went above and beyond for the plating and made it seem like they really care about what they were doing.

You get what you pay for here. Service stinks, and the food is fine, but nothing to get even remotely excited about. Lots of options on a very confused menu means lost of poorly executed dishes. I get the whole fusion idea, but this is not fusion… It’s just a place that serves mediocre food from 3 different countries. Had the Thai dumplings… They were ok… Chicken Teriyaki… It was fine… A few sushi rolls that I could have done without. Not sure why I gave this place a chance honestly. Oh, did I say the service sucks?

You really can’t go wrong with half off sushi on Mondays. Yes, you’ll have to wait. But is it worth it? I think so. It is consistently good and their presentation is fantastic. It’s not the kind of stuff you get at Maru, but for half off, I think that’s okay.

Pretty good sushi, decent hibachi, reasonable prices but so-so service. To sum it up: you get what you pay for. Fuji Yama has an all you can eat lunch and dinner special. The lunch special is $ 15.99 and since I typically eat like a Mako shark, I make out like a bandit. The special also includes apps, soups/salads and desserts. Be warned: you cannot share the AYCE special. They’ve also added the stipulation that you have to eat all the rice that comes with the sushi. I’m afraid they added that bit a few years back due to a meal where a guy in my practice ordered numerous pieces of nigiri and just ate the fish while leaving the rice(he preferred sashimi but that option doesn’t exist on the menu.) Sorry about that, but it’s now the law ’round these parts. I find the sushi to be of better than average quality. The hibachi show is typical and the food is of average quality, but that isn’t bad, since the average hibachi is still decent. The apps, sides and desserts are mediocre. The service has improved from years past — it used to be unfriendly, inattentive and slow. Now it’s just slow, but usually with a smile :) When I’m really hungry for sushi rolls or nigiri and don’t want to break the bank, this is where I go.

Fusion restaurant offering hibachi, Chinese, Thai and Japanese. Have been here multiple times and have tried it all. Favorite offering is there all you can eat lunch, also available on Sat for the week price. This lunch features unlimited apps, mini noodles and soup dishes and sushi including specialty rolls. I like their seaweed salad, udon/soba bowls, and their fried noodles. Some other apps included calamari, tempura shrimp and spring rolls. Sushi is tasty and is prepared quickly. Pace is good because of the apps and small plates. Insider tip: whole table order the AYCE so you can share everything. And at $ 14.99 per person, great lunch deal if you are hungry or just want to sample their menu.

Update: Went here tonight and it took 3 hours to get through dinner. If it weren’t for my friend’s upbeat attitudes I would have left. Service was terrible and no one seemed to care one bit. Our orders were constantly screwed up, and food kept coming out at random times so that everyone would be eating their entrees while some people hadn’t even gotten their appetizers. That was after moving us out of the hibachi area because apparently they wont let you sit there unless you order hibachi, even if you are with a group who 90% of them are ordering it.(We’ve done it plenty of times before, but the server said they’ve changed the rules. No warning, notice, or signs posted about this). It was a huge mess, no management in sight to even answer questions, offer explanations, or give apologies. We used to make this a monthly trip, but after this incompetence, I wouldn’t return. I had a party of 7 people, and called ahead to make reservations and make sure things were okay so this WOULDN’T happen. But, again, they didn’t seem to care.

Previously I did an updated review based on Fuji Yama’s half off sushi on Monday nights. Now I am going to update my review based on their all you can eat lunch buffet. This option for sushi continues to be the best value I’ve been able to find anywhere. As most sushi lovers know, sushi is expensive. At just $ 14.99, how can anyone not be excited for this? They provide five specialty rolls and nearly two dozen regular rolls. They have a few soup and salad options, appetizers, rice and noodles, and three different kinds of ice cream. I love their vanilla and red bean ice cream. If you haven’t tried this place, you’re missing out!

This is one of our favorite places for sushi and appetizers and spicy pasta dishes. The happy hour is great! It’s half off appetizers and drinks! Some of our favorites include General tso, Panang Curry, Thai Green Curry and sweet and sour pork. The appetizers we love are the crab ran goons, dumplings, and spring rolls.

This is definitely the best asian fusion restaurant in the gr metro area. The sushi, hibachi, thai, chinese, and several other asian inspired dishes are definitely better than most surprisingly. The staff is friendly and consistent for the most part. The only con is trying to actually use the patio on a beautiful day doesn’t go over very well with the wait staff. I requested to sit outside and the hostess reluctantly obliged, I watched two servers have a quick little disagreement about who was going to serve me. Finally the hostess ended up waiting on me to my surprise, obviously the normal servers did not want my money. The hostess did a great job, I tipped her $ 20 on my $ 10 lunch and asked her to tell the other servers… lol They also opened a new restaurant in the downtown market earlier this year.

We love coming the Grand Rapids and stopping by our favorite sushi bar for lunch. The environment is always hopping with people and the sushi chefs are always busy preparing some really fresh stuff to sink our teeth into. The waitstaff for the most part doesn’t speak much English but they are very attentive to your needs. My water is never empty and they are always smiling. If you want a hibachi, there are several to entertain you and there is a glass partition between the sushi bar and the hibachi room so you can watch the shows even if you aren’t in there. The bathrooms are clean and the outside also looks nice. Lunch all you can eat… Not a buffet… Is really good as far as selection and is only $ 15. Dinner is about $ 25 but is awesome as well. Kids prices are a little cheaper and well worth what they get; even ice cream. One thing to mention is to make sure you eat everything that you order because they don’t want anything wasted. If you have a bunch left, they will charge you for each piece. I don’t find this as a problem at all and it only keeps people from having that«open bar» mentality.
