Honestly, I had a blast with large group of friends here! Their comedy was legitimately funny, their cocktails were great and perfect strength, and the atmosphere was fun with a packed house on a Thursday night! They charge a $ 5 cover with a 2 drink minimum, but let’s be real. you were going to order two anyways ;) The humor was probably not appropriate for younger people/kids, but I think they card at the door for most groups so it’s not too much of an issue. I really liked their main act and Lasher, a local comedian. I like that they give a few locals a shot behind the mic! They kept things moving swiftly and the service was great. the waitress checked in with our table frequently without interrupting the show. I would definitely come back again, and recommend you check it out if you haven’t!

I planned my best friends bachelorette party at dr. Grins and I was treated so poorly by the management and the workers. I purchased almost $ 800 worth of tickets and talked to the manager before doing so. He said we would all be in the front row and in a group, when we gotten there we were seating in a vertical line from the front to the back of the room, being the first people there we asked to move closer together and they said no. The manager treated me and the brides mother with so much disrespect when we talked to him, Brian talked so down to us. During the show the brides mother was told to quiet down because she was laughing too loud, they threatened to kick some of us out. I am NEVER one to complain and I would understand more if everyone was drunk but this was not the case. At the end of the night we received our bills with tip already added and the tip that was charged to some of us was almost 40%!!! Never will any of us go back there we were all in disgust during the entire show due to Brian and his workers. NEVER plan a party like that here.

I bought tickets days before the show. We showed up an hour before the show. Yet, still managed to not have a choice of tables, and they sat us in a back corner with an obstructed view. 2 drink minimum, which is not uncommon, but for 20 $ per ticket, uncalled for. But most annoying, they automatically added gratuity! I tip well(20−30%) depending on the service. How about just offering quality service and in return, getting tipped appropriately? !

A decent comedy venue. I’ve been numerous times and enjoy it every time. Coming from a larger town, I’ve been to more than a few comedy clubs but Dr. Grins is pretty fair. The space is small, but not terribly so. The seats are a tad uncomfortable, but not terribly so. The drink menu is decent, but it would be better if you could order some craft beer or higher-end spirits. The comedy is typically very good and some big name headliners do come from time to time. We saw Tim Meadows last night and he was pretty good. The M.C., Allen Trieu, was the best part of the show, though. It’s awesome when the M.C. outperforms both the opener AND the headliner! Good time.

I’m a long time«patient«of the good Dr. I’ve planned bachelorette parties around these comedy shows, brought out of town friends here, and I’ve even had a few memorable date nights. One time I saw a late night Aziz Ansari show and while he was funny, I thought his warm up guy was funnier. Sorry, Aziz. Just because Grand Rapids is known as a family friendly city, don’t expect all the comedians to be G rated. You’ll hear everything from the wacky jokester, to the guy who sing funny songs with his guitar, to off-kilter, subversive, dry stuff. After going here for years, I can say that Dr. Grin’s genuinely works at mixing it up to provide a variety for every show. Located on the 3rd floor of The B.O.B in downtown Grand Rapids, Dr. Grin’s offers an intimate setting filled with tables and booths. Doors open about an hour before the show and unless you have purchased tickets ahead of time, shows sell out quickly. Servers come around throughout the night to take your drink and food orders with tips being added to the bill at the end of the night. Staff is helpful and prompt, keeping drinks filled. The show clips along and before you know it, 2 hours have past and you had a blast. Pro tip: check out the discounted Thursday night shows. The weekend headliner often does the Thursday show so you can catch them for up to half off the normal cost of a ticket. But even on a weekend show, tickets are very reasonable.

Now, let me preface this by saying that, shamefully, this was my first experience ever in a comedy club. But it was really a great little venue and the service was friendly The MC was entertaining and the entire show was very professional The only reason it gets 4 and not 5 stars is: Te seats are a little uncomfortable for a long show and when the waitress ran my card I had to wait like 15 minutes after the show for them to finally get my card back to me Other than that, the place was great and I can’t wait to come back for more fist fighting and fire breathing. Or just laughs, either one is fine.

Great comedy club! I enjoyed my experience here… some TIPS: — Cocktails are $ 7 and premium drinks(like my grey goose martini was $ 9). So cheap! — 2 drink minimum — Auto gratuity added to your bill — They have a decent food menu. One sandwich, mainly pizzas and a handful of appetizers(and a couple desserts). I thought the pulled pork pizza was delish — Nice wait staff! — Shows are generally $ 5-$ 10. If you’re staying at the Amway hotel they’ll give you free passes — Located on 3rd(top) floor of the BOB — 21+ — Options to sit at tables or ‘higher up’ tables around the perimeter of the venue(ie if you want to try and hide from the comedian. you have the option). loved it!

My first visit was to open mic night where I saw 9 performers. Crowd was about 150 people. The show started on time lasting for about 1.5 hours. A lot of sexual humor and derogatory jokes towards gays, but hey… it was amateur night so its not like you are paying the $ 5 cover to see finely tuned craftsman. Grins has a nice seating environment with plenty of tables and banquette seating along the back wall which I preferred since it gives a slightly higher view point even with the scattered pillars throughout the room. Who doesn’t enjoy dangling their legs? Service was excellent, however with such a large crowd management should have had more than just one server. I disliked the lack of menu choices. One would think I could order anything from any of the restaurants within the BOB and not limited to just appetizers and pizza. My meal was a hamburger, fries, and one beer totalling $ 20. A 20% gratuity was auto-included which I loved seeing how it made it easier to pay in the dark… a very European convenience which I love. Also, I was disappointed no local beers were available. Grand Rapids is quickly becoming well known for local beers and would have liked the availability.

I’ve been to Dr. Grins quite a bit. I’ve had a wonderful time the comedy is great, the atmosphere is fun and inviting, and the drinks are ridiculously good. The prices aren’t that bad either.

This is a great place to check out a big name performer, or a small name local. Most of the people I’ve seen on stage have gotten me laughing. Be sure to try«Friday Night Lights» on the drink menu!

Wow first to review? This is a really fun place. Cheap drinks and good laughs. I usually go on Thursdays. You get a batch of open mic performers as well as the normal weekend headliners all for ½ the price of the weekend shows. I suggest getting their early. It does fill up fast. They get big names from time to time, but event he lesser known acts still are really funny.
