The BEST Mexican food in the DFW area! The stuffed avocados were incredible. Get the queso. My boyfriend and I absolutely love this place.

The Bathroom: Didn’t Use The Dining Area 3⁄5: Clean, plenty of space, plenty of artifacts, the music is in Spanish and not too loud. Customer Service3/5: Language barriers are here, waiter kept me waiting to pay for meal, she did smile, was friendly and offered menu recommendations. Food 4⁄5: Was fresh, good and filling Price and Restaurant3/5: Price Is fair and the style is regular restaurant style. The host sit you down then you Environment: Family friendly, the staff are mostly bilingual. Overall 13⁄20: My experience here was 65% positive. It’s not a place that I would go out of my way for but it’s close to where I work and the food, service and cleanliness are all reasonable.

I’ve ordered takeout once, & dined in once. When I ordered for pick up, our food was kinda soggy, & lacking flavor. I chalked it up to it not being fresh, because it was boxed up, & returned with family a year or so later. While the food quality was much better on the dine in side, the service was very spotty. There were 11 of us, and the server kept delivering/refilling our drinks incorrectly. It just seemed like they were unorganized, & unprepared to work that day. We were one of maybe 3 tables in the building, so I’m not sure what the real problem was, but I’m unlikely to return. With better training/service staff, they might actually have a good thing going. Enter at your own risk.

If you want good Mexican food with an authentic atmosphere, then this is a great place to go. My wife and I met our daughter and boyfriend here while we were in town for lunch. My biggest complaint for the day was that they were flat out slammed that day so service was very slow. My daughter and her boyfriend commented on how slow they were. This would have knocked me down BUT — they gave us som sopapilla’s. The tacos and enchilada were quite good. The sopapilla’s? AWESOME! They were slow that day, but they acknowledged it and compensated us for it. Overall, though slow, still an enjoyable lunch!

Well this is the second time I have been to Monterey’s little Mexico in 2 weeks because I like their margarita specials but we also eat when we go because the food is also good. We have been coming to Monterey’s for years but these 2 times in a row we find hair in their salsa. When we first started coming they would bring both kinds of salsa to u but as of late they haven’t. Well I know now why. Someone their is losing their hair.

Meh. Food tasted OK, was warm enough, but definitely was not made to order. Full plates of beans, rice, enchiladas, etc. was brought to our table after only a few minutes from ordering. It’s more like fast food service with items plated from preheated menu items. You know… like Pancho’s. Expect to pay over $ 5 for two iced teas. Craziness. Between the exorbitant price for iced tea and the re-heated, pre-heated items, there’s really no need for me to ever go back.

It took 20 minutes for them to seat us and 30 minutes later they came and told us they forgot about us we told them forget about it and left. Very poor customer service on this experience

As far as a hole in the wall tex Mex place, this place is 5 stars! –super inexpensive(critical to tex mex) –good food, the stuffed avocados are AMAZING –good chips and salsa(slightly hotter than mild, but delicious when you salt the salsa) –great service every time –drink specials like no one’s business We love this place when we need some comfort food or are trying to itch our tex Mex scratch. I love the fajita burrito, the stuffed avocados, the queso con Carne and the prickly pear margarita. The inside is nice enough to go on a date to, but not so over the top that you can’t collapse into a booth after you spent all day helping your sister move to her third floor apartment. It’s also affordable enough that you can bring your in laws, and when that check comes you can just grab it and say«don’t worry guys, our treat« I am a tex mex snob, and I happily approve of this little slice of texico.

I love this place. My husband and I have been coming here for many years and many of the wait staff has been here just as long. The management has always been very friendly, stopping by the table to see how things are going. Very nice touch. The place received some new beautiful menus last year and now a new paint job. Looking good. And the food. The Chicken Cancun is sooooooooo great. Flattened chicken breast stuffed with cheese, fried and covered with queso. I replace the rice and beans with their grilled veggies… yuummmy. And I can’t forget to mention the sopapillas. Soooo good they melt in your mouth. No matter how full I am, I have to get a small order(comes with 4) two for me and two for my hubby. I can not understand some of the negative reviews. I think those are the people that are not use to trying little hole in the walls.

Nice place to come for cheap Mexican comfort food. Been here a few times and have had good experiences, although there was one time we had a waitress who seemed very disconnected from her job. Maybe she was having a bad day, or she was new, I don’t really know, but that’s as negative as my personal experiences have been at this place, other than that, no problems.

My two friends and I were craving a good authentic Tex-Mex place, that didn’t seem to pricey. We found this place 10 minutes from our house and decided to check it out. Our servers name was Rosa and she was superb. Drinks were refilled, appetizer(guacamole salad: lacking lime juice and a little bland) was brought out quickly as well as chips and salsa. Our entrees were very nice portions and had good flavor. I had the stuffed carne asada(two beef tenderloins with melted cheese and mushrooms 4⁄5 stars) The atmosphere was calm and neutral. Gave a relaxing family feel. All in all definitely worth checking out. Rosa was amazing, and very courteous. Ask for her and you will be treated very well.

I was craving Tex-Mex and on a tight budget when my phenomenal woman found this little place. It had good ratings. It was close. It was Tex-Mex. It had a stuffed avocado(her fav). So off we went to the little house down the street. Upon arrival, the parking lot is packed. This is a good sign. We parked in the over flow parking across the street from the local fire house and head in. As we enter, a couple is leaving, «the margaritas are great,» they say. Another good sign. We enter and see the special! Every 5th and 15th, 55 cent house margaritas with purchaseof entrée. Excellent! We are almost immediately seated. Great! We look over the menu and observe the sights. The menu look good. The decorations were festive. The table was clean. The clientele… was older. Not so good.(I’ll explain) BUT… we soldier on and order. The drinks are decent. For 55 cents each they are awesome. The salsa is over blended and under seasoned resulting in an aerated tomato foam with decent flavor but no spice. Service was fast and mostly attentive. I’d say on par for most restaurants but nothing special. Then… our food came out. Now, I have been to a ton of different Mexican and Tex-Mex places. From hope in the walls where they shoved grandmas in the kitchen and spew forth food worthy of GODS to multitudinous chains that shop at Walmart for their canned slop. This food is some where in between. Not great, not bad. Bland, underdeveloped flavors in fair portions but lacking severely from authentic touch. And this is where the clientele factors in. In my experience, whenever a couple that loves Mexican food, ages; is inevitable that one or both will no longer be able to stomach the spice of authentic Mexican food. So they sacrifice and find more subtle flavors. Boring flavors. This is that kind of place. Good if you have acid reflux, easily upset stomach or ulcers. Good if you don’t have a lot of money to spend. Bad if you want awesome, authentic, this should be illegal(and might be) Mexican food.

I come here with my father bc it’s Monterey House food. He grew up in Houston and his family at at Monterey House all through his childhood and I remember visiting places as a kid that served food close to this. Our favorite place is located in Waco, so when we cannot make it there, this is where we go. Service is friendly, only at times a little slow. I never mind bc I don’t visit here when I’m in a hurry, I’m there to spend time with my dad. Ask for the salsa verde, it’s a wonderful compliment to the meal. We always eat the same thing here, I believe it’s the Monterey plate, it basically has one of everything tex mex on it. It’s always good.

This restaurant is what my wife and I like to call«fake Mexican food». Nothing we ate was fresh or authentic. The salsa was watery and came straight out of a can. The queso was cold and bland and the chips were stale. The wait staff was descent. But there was a male in a really dirty polo shirt serving drinks. My wife had chile con queso fajita enchiladas and she compared it to eating wolf brand child with microwaved fajitas. I ordered fajitas(how can you get that wrong?) and id have to agree with my wife. The fajitas tasted like they came out of a package at Walmart. If you’re looking for an On the Border substitute than this is your place. If you want real Mexican food that didn’t come from cans. DONTCOMEHERE. BUT…my 4 year old gave it two thumbs up… so congrats Little Mexico, you did one thing right. It should be noted my 4 year old thinks McDonald’s is good food

Went with some work peeps to this place. It looks like a little hole in the wall but it is actually quite cozy and nice inside. There seemed to be a good alcohol menu and a pretty nice size good menu. I ordered the lunch #1 which was a cheese enchilada, taco and tostado with rice and beans. It wasn’t over filling but it was perfect for work trainings. I would like to go back and try it for dinner.

We went in Sunday, after church. It wasn’t crowded, but there was plenty of business. They offered us a supplimental menu with a 2 for $ 20 deal(1 appetizer, 2 entrees &2 drinks). We went with that. My wife ordered the Pollo Feliz, and couldn’t stop bragging about how great it was. I ordered a chicken & grilled veggie entrée, and the waiter didn’t even flinch when I asked for a substitution for the beans & rice. He offered a large salad. Everything tasted great, the service was good, and the atmosphere was pleasant.
