My family owns a cabin on Loon Lake, but with so many family members up we decided to have our family stay at Loon Lake Lodge. Best decision ever! The cabins were charming, spacious, clean and all for an affordable price. Our cabin had three sleeping areas which made traveling with a 1 and 3 year old a breeze and a wonderful four season porch to lay back and read a book on while our kiddos napped. The views from our kitchen window were breathtaking and there was a fire pit and chairs outside for snuggling up in the evenings. We also had our own private dock we could sit out on and enjoy the tranquility or use for boating back and forth from our family cabin. The lodge was great, the staff were friendly and flexible and there were board games to play which we will have to take advantage of our next trip there. Also, I somehow managed to forget a ring at my cabin when we left that my Grandmother had given me and the staff alerting me and went the extra mile to mail it back to my home. So impressed with the hospitality, honesty and care the staff took for each and every one of their guests. Highly recommended!

Loon Lake is right on the Gunflint Trail and definitely the most peaceful lake I’ve ever seen. Just a skip of a rock from Canada, this place is a wonderful escape from everything, including phone service. The Loon Lake Lodge is a collection of cabins and a main lodge. The engaging owners really make everybody feel at home. It was wonderful. We loved taking advantage of the free kayaks to explore the lake and(thanks to the owner) were happily talked out of a hike that we realized was way too long for novices like us. You can arrange to have dinner at the lodge(even nice stuff like steaks!) or cook in your own cabin kitchen or grill. The lodge itself is a friendly place and it seemed like you could easily make some new buddies there if you wanted, though we were content to hole ourselves up in our cabin in the evenings for heated games of Risk and Scrabble. Mosquitos not invited. We stayed in the oldest cabin on the grounds, which has a few additions since it’s early days. It makes it a little bit of a strange layout, but it also has its own private dock and more privacy than the other cabins. There’s also one called the«Shack,» and is the exact opposite of a shack. Like, leather furniture and flat-screen TV kind of opposite. It’s more of a house really. And it’s the only cabin that’s open in the winter as well. I’d definitely come here again for another unplugged vacation, but TV wouldn’t be terrible either… They have this cute little guestbook in each cabin where previous travelers can share their thanks and stories about Loon Lake. From reading through the book, it seems that many couples and families have been coming to this lake for YEARS(decades even). It’s a special place to many people, and we felt lucky to have experienced it too.
