From what I understand, this is a family run company. Bill Wright’s rather friendly wife(secretary?) answers their main phone, and Bill(and co) do the hands on stuff. From the very beginning, they were both friendly. I had Google’d «Graham, WA tree service» and they were one of four companies that I called — and the only company to call me back! I had just bought a house and there were three trees in my backyard that had some«widow makers» hanging from last year’s freeze, and those nasty branches had to go. So Bill came out the next day and gave me a very reasonable quote at $ 250 for trimming without removal — it’d be closer to $ 375, I think, for haul away. No big deal, I was planning on hauling away the branches, myself(the dump takes yard waste for free!). I also told him I’d bring cash, and he said with that, I wouldn’t be charged tax. So far, I’m loving this guy. He was charming, giving me what I thought to be a good price, did some casual flirting(what guy doesn’t try to charm a potential customer of the opposite sex, even if much younger?), and said he’d be by a few days later to trim the tree. All was right with the world, and I was a happy customer-to-be. Oh boy, was I in for fun. After he did the job, he called me to let me know, and we arranged to meet later for payment. When I went to the house to see the work done(I didn’t live on site at the time), I was rather shocked to find my 3+ story tree was nearly bald. Instead of a beautiful, clean-looking tree free of widow-makers, my formerly full tree had maybe 15 branches left where it used to have over 100. It looked like an electrical pole. So I told Bill that I was unhappy when we met for payment. I(stupidly) gave him the money, and he told me to call him later that week to set up a time when he could come back and take the tree down since it was now an eyesore. I figured I’d be a happier customer then… So I called his cell a few days later and left a brief, gentle message. Three days go by… no response. I called him again. A week later… no response. At this point, three weeks(and another phone call) had gone by, and needless to say, I was a little annoyed. So I called his main number and left a firm message stating my upset and that I needed someone to call back as soon as possible. I finally received a call from Bill’s wife/secretary(?) the next day. She scheduled an appointment for him to come out and finish the work he said he would. I was a little happier. The morning of, I get a call from Bill at 10am and he said«My guys won’t be coming out to do the job today because our other job cancelled and I don’t want to make them work for free. We’ll come by on Friday(three days later) to do the work.» I said«fine». Before I could add«Technically, your guys were already paid for the job, it’s your own fault for not listening to the customer and doing what she asked,» He hung up. Well that was rude. Friday morning…11 o’clock, no Bill. I called his office. No answer. I called his cell. No answer. I called his office back again and left another firm message for Bill to call me back. He shows up at my door. Here I am thinking«FINALLY!» when he explains that he won’t be able to come today. At that point, I’m livid. «So you’re here… but you won’t be able to come do the work today? I don’t get it.» He sharply says«we’ll be by on Monday to do the work, I just didn’t want you to think I was blowing you off so I came to your house.» Well, you kinda are blowing me off! Again! And before I could say anything, he turned and walked away. Monday morning, he did show up. At 8:14am with a guy and a truck. He knocked on my door, said«you need to move your rig» and walked away from my door. Again, rude. He didn’t say another word to me. The job took a little over an hour. They cleaned up the branches under the tree(thank you…) then dropped it. Once it was down, they disappeared. He never came back to the door to say«jobs done» or anything. For one, the tree is not gone, so the job is not done. At this point, as I watched him drive away without a word, I called his cell number. No answer. I called the business number. No answer. I continued to call him again and again… a total of 9 times before he answered… finally. I was surprisingly nice, even with how livid I was. «I was calling to make sure you guys were coming back to take the tree like we agreed?» He said«oh, so you didn’t want the tree?» No… I rather enjoy a bald lawn killing ornament(end sarcasm)…of course I want the tree gone! He said he’ll send a guy over to get it. He showed up 20 minutes later, knocks on my door, says«this is my tree guy» then scampers back to his truck. Again… no hello, no sorry for the confusion, no apology of any kind, just more rudeness. Thankfully the«tree guy» was nice and we arranged for him to come get it. We’ll see on Thursday if that actually happens.
