Plaza Mexican Grill

We waited for ages to be greeted. After about 15 minutes of waiting someone brought us chips and salsa, but said nothing to us. Tired of waiting and unimpressed with the chips and salsa, my husband and I walked out and went to the Happy Asian across the street!

LOVE! This has been the best and most consistent Mexican restaurant I’ve tried in Nashville. The service has always been great and who can resist 2 for 1 margaritas! I always get the Chile Colorado, it’s spicy and oh so good.

This place gets better and better for vegetarians. They have added a WHOLE page of vegetarian options using the vegetarian chicken, beef, and fish for a new set of palate pleasing menu selections!
Tonight I am enjoying the Vegetarian nachos, chicken style with nachos, cheese, grilled peppers, onions, black beans, corn, spinach and veggie chicken. Delish! If you are vegetarian, come by and try their enhanced menus, you won’t be sorry!

The homemade Tamales were the only thing I had. They were great! The waiter said that his grandmother makes them. Don’t know anything about the rest of the menu but the tamales are outstanding…

Great service, new menu, typical Nashville Mexican food. Nothing new or exciting but hits the spot if that’s what you’re looking for.

Ok so waited 20 mins without any service. I and had to flag a waitress down! Although not her section she did wait on us which was the only positive for the place.
The chips where stale and the salsa was well like one review said tasted like pizza sauce with cilantro.
The guacamole seemed fresh but it had about 50 limes squeezed in it so you couldn’t eat it. I have NEVER left partially eaten guacamole on the table especially after paying 4.50 for it!
Sauce was the same way. It was so over seasoned you couldn’t eat the food. That was for both me and my husband’s food. He had verde sauce and I had standard red. I can’t really rate the food if you scrapped enough sauce off I guess it was ok I guess. I won’t be back.

I love this place the food is always good and the service is always great .
Omg the homemade margaritas are great and a great price .I eat here once a week !
My favorite things are the nachos supreme
the Burrito Real and the fresh guacamole.

This place has the worst customer service and mediocre food. We have come here many times hoping that they were just busy but they truly have poor service. We waited over 20 minutes only to have another couple served before us. We didn’t get chips or salsa (ketchup). Not even water! We stopped going into the restaurant and ordered take out instead but service was still horrible. Overall, the staff aren’t very friendly. Their saving grace is the tilapia enchiladas but how dare you call that heap of dry rice a California burrito?! Their sangria is NOT home made, it comes from a Carl Rossi bottle. You can get the bottle cheaper anywhere else than a glass of it here.
Most of the people who are giving this place 3+ stars have obviously never have authentic Mexican food. Never been to Mexico or anywhere near it. Someones abuelita would be very unimpressed with this food.

Sorry but this place is not very good and the staff isn’t very friendly… There are at least 3 better options with in a 3 mile radius. Don’t waste your time. The food is bland and lame. No bueno

The only Mexican place I know of that has veggie «chicken»! I’ve had the fajitas, and they were great. I also love their salsa and gauc. It’s pretty standard Mexican food besides that, but I’ll definitely be back for the «chicken» fajitas!

Very good, freshly made, guacamole is excellent. Had the enchiladas but ordered one tamale to try because «it’s home made.» Both great.

DON’T LET THESE COMMENTS MISLEAD YOU!!! This place is aweful, if you’re looking for a cheap Margarita and loud bar drunks by all means stop on by, but if you are looking for a nice Mexican meal, KEEP DRIVING! Service was horrible and the salsa taste like pizza sauce mixed with cilantro. Our server asked how our meals were, and I told him not that great, and he just left… never asked if he could fix it or anything, my fiancé took two bites if her food and he avoided talking to her like the plague. The food was terrible, the service was terrible, we will never eat here again.

What more is there to say other than this place is amazing! Service is always perfect and Maria has perfected the best homemade Sangria I have ever tasted. Staff always friendly and accommodating. Defiantly a Mexican restaurant that sets itself apart from any other.

Is Mexican just Mexican? I mean there is bad Mex and there is just Mex but really good Mex is hard to find. Roseppers when they arent slammed is the only exception as far as really good Mex and El Jalicense has the best guacamole.

I have been to La Plaza a couple times since moving here and overall, it’s about a 3 ½ but I rounded down due to lackluster service. It’s not like they did anything wrong, it’s just… eh. No one seems happy to be there and isn’t overly friendly. But they’re not mean or disrespectful, so I guess that’s a plus.
The atmosphere in here is pretty dated. First, it’s in a strip mall (not hating because I’ve found some good ass places in strip malls) and second, the décor looks like it has been there for at least 15 years. I’m not expecting anything super extravagant, but a little update would probably be nice.
The guacamole is super good. It’s very fresh, although I wish it would’ve had more heat. This is something I would normally NEVER say because I am not very tolerant of spicy foods. But I do like my guacamole to have a little bit of a kick to it, and this was just not spicy at all. However, you could still taste that it was fresh and overall it had a pretty good flavor.
I’ve had a couple different menus items from here. The avocado enchiladas are pretty good. The rice and beans that comes with everything are just eh. Pretty bland, but they are cooked properly (which apparently can be harder than it seems). I’ve also had the chiles rellenos and they’re not bad. My opinion on those is a little skewed because I had the best EVER at this place back home. So basically nothing else can live up to those. My brother has gotten the steak chimichanga both times that we’ve gone and he has said it’s pretty good. But give him anything with steak and deep fried, and he’s ok.
The prices are excellent and my brother and I can eat there for $ 25 after tax and tip combined. For that fact, I would probably still come here if I didn’t have a lot of cash to spend and wanted some decent Mexican food. I’m still on the lookout for some really good, authentic Mexican food in the Nashville area!

Absolutely love this place! I’ve tried several different menu items over the last year, and haven’t been let down by any of them. The chicken/​beef fajitas are my go to, and my wife loves the fish tacos. Guacamole is also excellent, and has never been bland on any of my visits as another review stated below.
The only negative I’ve experienced is the service has been lacking on a few occasions. Everyone is always friendly, just not overly observant at times. I’m talking maybe twice out of a dozen or so visits.

It had it’s own flavor to it! The salsa was medium heat and chips were plentiful. The queso I ordered was runny, but somehow fantastic and addictive — I ordered a medium and took home at least 4 ounces when my party of 4 couldn’t finish it off. The chicken chimichanga was a little dry, but tasted okay. When I couldn’t finish the plate, I decided not to bother with the leftovers because it wasn’t good enough to reheat later. My grandfather also had a chicken chimichanga and opted to take my unwanted leftovers, so he really enjoyed the meal.

Enjoyed La Plaza last night. The menu is quite extensive with a variety of standard tex-​mex fair and then a whole lot of additional choices. There are probably 10 different kinds of fajitas alone. I personally went with the Pineapple Fajitas which came with the chicken and pineapple served in half a pineapple. It was incredibly delicious just soaking in the pool of fruit juice and sugar.
Happy hour runs until 8pm on weeknights which means domestic drafts are $ 2 and margaritas are only $ 2.50 (and buy 2 get 1 free)!
Next time I’m in town for work, I will be returning to La Plaza.

Frankly, I’m disappointed. Based on the reviews on Unilocal,I expected better.
I had the Plaza Platter, and although the chili relleno was very good, everything else was only so-​so.
We recently moved to Nashville from California, and we’ve been very hesitant to try the local Mexican restaurants, and this didn’t help. They didn’t offer any variety of margaritas, but at least their margaritas are cheap.

Ok, the ambiance may not be worthy of five stars, but EVERYTHING else about Plaza Bar & Grill, makes up for the 80’s diner-​like dining room & strip mall location.
The salsa is great, and obviously homemade, but don’t stop there… go for the made-​to-​order guacamole and pico de gallo. You’ll be asking for more warm chips & margaritas (2 for 1) to wash it all down. That’s just the appetizers… wait until you sink your teeth into the best tacos authenticos this side of the border! They are a simple combination of your choice of fresh meat (perfectly seasoned beef, chicken, chorizo, etc.), onions, cilantro & avocado in a fresh corn tortilla. Add a side of black beans and/​or rice for a hearty meal, served by a very friendly staff, that will have you agreeing with me on the «5-​star» rating, at prices that will keep you coming back!
