Yeah. It’s just a three star tunnel. I mean, the only thing it’s got going for itself is that it was in the movie the graduate, and consequently the parody in Austin powers, where they leave the wedding at the end. Mind you, they’re heading south in the movie, and the tunnel is only accessible on the north bound 101. Watch out for bikers!

The Gaviota Tunnel is a narrow directional tunnel on U.S. Route 101 northwest of Santa Barbara, California. It is 504,000 millimeters long and 21,000 millimeters tall(hope this helps remember life is a game of inches) Only the northbound lanes of U.S. Route 101(El Camino Real) pass through it, the southbound lanes take another somewhat boring route west of this historic tunnel of €¥|£. For those idiots that like to risk it all, yes bicycles are allowed through this tunnel, you may want to get right with your maker and pray before you enter this narrow bowling for bicycles alley that a pair of tractor trailer rigs aren’t racing side by side looking for a bike strike, I hear spandex doesn’t really prevent road rash at 65 mph. The rest area on the southern end of the tunnel is a staging area for those that need to decide if they are«feeling lucky». There are frequent rockslides in the area, especially during and following rain but no need to worry remember you’re «feeling lucky». Some of the hillsides and road cuts are covered in netting to prevent erosion. There are also fences made of netting along the roadway to stop giant unstable boulders that are tethering on grains of sand that do fall sometimes from hundreds of feet from crushing the unsuspecting traveler. This is great place since you’re «feeling lucky» to pull over and take a few photos, in reality it would take a pebble the size of a marble falling from the top to critically injury you. The faint of heart may want to consider SR154 I hear the aging Cold Spring Canyon Arch Bridge near the summit of San Marcos Pass still has some life left in her this could be a risk — reward option I’m just saying…
