I did a drop-in session just to use their Concept 2 rowing machines(they have two). The staff was friendly, the place was spacious, clean, light, and not too noisy. At 11am on a Saturday in February, there were about 10 people in the place. No contention for machines. The rest of the equipment looked good, members seemed happy, and they do have a TRX program — there was a big banner on the wall for it. I didn’t use the showers, but the locker room was clean with nice wood-look lockers.

Management and staff are very rude. Tiny space, often crowded. There are better gyms in the area, for the money. The good: 1) Equipment is shiny and new. 2) Place is clean 3) Trainers seem knowledgeable. The bad: 1) Overcrowded. Small space. Someone will be on top of you, or using the machines you want. 2) TRX should be included in membership. Lots of gym for less $ have TRX included. 3) Only one set of each weight(i.e., one set of 15 lb, one 10, one 25 lb, etc.) so if in use, you are out of luck. 4) Leg press is weird and hard to use. Some of the equipment for resistance training it out of date. 5) Rude, unhelpful staff.

I’ve been away from the gym for quite a while now, so I was a little nervous about signing up at MAC. I’m glad I did. The good: –Plenty of cardio machines(and about half have TVs). –A variety of weight machines, free weights, and an area to do other non-weight lifting exercises.(I’m kind of vague here since I only do cardio.) –Friendly staff.(This is important to me. I hate feeling like I’m being judged.) –No children /young teenagers. –Locker room/bathroom has been clean every time I’ve been there. The neutral: –The juice bar. It’s tempting. I always want to get something, but it’s not cheap($ 5 and up?)… I haven’t tried anything yet, and I don’t plan to, so I can’t comment on the quality of the drinks. –Personal training &TRX suspension training. Considering I’m already paying for a gym membership I can’t afford, they’re out of my price range. I’m happy that the option is there, though, and I hope to take advantage of them eventually. –Hours are great for early birds, but I’m an insomniac. I love working out at 2 or 3am when I can’t sleep. I know that’s an unreasonable request, though, so I’m not holding it against them. I DO think that closing at 9pm is a bit early, though — and they close even earlier on weekends. –Plenty of parking.(Trying to park at the YMCA sucked, so this is pretty wonderful for someone who can’t parallel park.) The bad: –Price. It’s expensive to join as a month-to-month member($ 50, plus a yearly fee [an extra $ 20?] and some other fee I might’ve forgotten). It’s less expensive($ 40/month?) if you sign a year-long contract. It’s definitely worth checking out. They have three day passes, if you’d like to work out for a few days without committing… so what’s stopping you?
