Have eaten here 4 or 5 times in the past few weeks as I an in town on business.. The fried scallops have to be my favorite. They are cooked to perfection and seem ultra fresh. Lobster roll and the fried shrimp were good as well. Definitely worth stopping by if you are in the area.

Last night we were at a party and they had baked ziti and arancini from Cap’n Hook and they were outstanding! Can’t wait to go to the restaurant! Contessa

Great food. Our group had the cheesesteak, French fries, mozzarella sticks, and cheeseburger — all delicious, especially the mozzarella sticks. My only complaint is they seem to always be understaffed. The cashiers consistently ask people in line to wait so they can answer the phones, which is understandable to some extent but their service would be greatly improved with just one more person up front. Altogether, I really enjoyed it here.

Food is good but if you order take out they never have it ready when they say it will always take a lot longer

Capt. Hooks is the go to restaurant on Cape Ann for everything from pizza, Italian specialties to everyday subs. Personally I feel their meatballs are second to none!

if there is one thing I cannot stand it’s when you place an order and the person at the counter asks you specifics and they STILL screw up your order. this happens to be a usual routine for capt hooks which is extremely unfortunate because the food is delicious. if ithat’s correct. I ordered a Buffalo chicken pizza, they specifically ask do you want grilled chicken or chicken fingers… And it seems every time I ask for chicken fingers I’m giving grilled, which sucks because it is always hard as a rock. this is not the first time for this happening! HUGEDISAPPOINTMENT, it ruins the whole pizza! get with it hooks!

What’s not to love about Hook’s? Arancini(rice balls) are to die for, and i definitely just had THE best calzone ever. Pepperoni, sauce and cheese, and special request added ricotta… party in my mouth. They make their own chicken fingers, which are tasty, and the fries are the thick battered crunchy kind, fabulous. Best cheesesteaks around, too! They’re connected to a Richdale’s so if you need extra snacks or they don’t have the drinks you want, you can run right next door. Convenient!

Waterfront courtyard is perfect in the summer! I like the ‘italiano” sub sandwich. I’ve been coming here for years, but haven’t had the pizza in over a decade. I guess I forgot they made ‘em fresh or something Anyway I tried them tonight and OMG was it good. Perfect crust, cheese and sauce. Further, the toppings were amazing. I can’t believe what I’ve been missing out on. Go today, and support this great local business!

The first time we came here, we were blown away everything was sooo good, we had pizza and riceballs and a Portuguese sausage sub and a super good chocolate chip cookie. Second time we ordered the same exact items because they were that good. Pizza was not so good, infact it was awful. Our chocolate chip cookie was old, actually had a bit of mold. The only consistently good thing were the rice balls. I’ll just stick to those.

Love their huge, cheesy pizza SLICES, for a quick bite. However, their pizzas start at only 13″ & aren’t as good. Their spinach calzone tasted kinda like either their spinach was frozen &/or they boiled it, & it wasn’t mixed in. The calzone was also cut weird, soooo we didn’t really enjoy it. Their Italian Wedding soup is very good w/it’s tiny meatballs & delicious broth. To be cont’d.

You MUSTMUSTMUST get the broccoli parm. sub! It is a must have every time I visit Gloucester! I have tried to recreate it at home, now that I do not live there, but just can’t get it as good as they do!

My favorite pizza place bar none! The slices are huge and simply the best. Buffalo chicken calzone is the best I’ve ever had. My only complaint is that they are stingy with dressings! Every time we ask for extra blue cheese the owner gives us an attitude and charges us more. We spend a lot of money here when we come and are regulars. If they were a little nicer and not so stingy, I wouldn’t have a complaint in the world.

I go here because it’s near my house and I’m super lazy. This makes me a huge moron because I’ve now had 5 or 6 soggy, small, overpriced pizzas in a row. It’s too bad because the staff are SO nice, and delivery boys never give me crap for making them drive ¾ of a mile to my house because I don’t feel like going out. In a city chock full of off-the-boat Italians, I ask… Where is the good pizza in Gloucester?

Here’s what happened. We were on our way home after an awesome afternoon at Halibut Point State Park(q.v.), and figured no afternoon in Cape Ann would be complete without fresh seafood, steamers and the like. The first place we passed on the way home was packed, so we kept going and decided to stop at the next one. Which was Cap’n Hooks. Admittedly, it fit several of the criteria we were looking for — outdoor seating, water view, seafood. It also had the added benefit of a parking spot right out front where we could park and keep an eye on our daughter, who had fallen asleep in the mile between the first restaurant and this one. The availability of parking right out front — when the other place had been packed — should have clued us in. In all fairness to what I’m about to say, and based on what all the other reviewers say, they seem to do a pretty decent take-out business, mostly pizza, which people seem to love. The seafood, however, is sad. We got two lobster roll plates and it ran to about $ 50. Which, if we’re talking Kelly’s lobster rolls, or we’re in Maine and the roll has meat from an entire lobster, that’s one thing. Here, the best thing that can be said about my lobster roll is this — they butter and toast the bun, which I love, and it didn’t have any hair in it. My wife’s did. And it didn’t look like hair from the head. The lobster was also swimming in mayo. Swimming. Some bites tasted like there was artificial lobster meat in them. Not cool. It tasted mostly like mayo in a delicious toasted bun. When she went inside because of the hair, they offered her a crab roll instead. Which had even more mayo, was ice cold, and had even less seafood flavor than the lobster roll. The plate came with fries, onion rings, and cole slaw. The fries were great. Extra crispy, lots of texture, yummy. The onion rings were cooked thru, I will say that, but you could tell that they had only recently come out of the freezer. The cole slaw, like the lobster, was swimming in mayo. The outdoor seating was also pretty sad. Two picnic tables with tattered umbrellas(my wife got poked in the eye by a protruding umbrella rib), and a 6′ rusty chain link fence overlooking the river. You win some, you lose some, when you stop at random places on the side of the road. This one, we lost. We’ll keep playing, though, and try some place else next time.

Absolutely love the pizza! Whenever me and the hubby are in Gloucester and get a craving for the pie, we always call 978−282-HOOK! We get the same kind, everytime… mushroom, onion and linguica!!! I swear GTown is the only place you can get pizza with linguica! The sauce is on the sweet side, the crust is too die for(not too thin, not too thick… more of a goldilocks crust, ya know, just right) and well… it’s just yummers! This is all we ever order from here so I can’t tell you about the other offerings(although they have quite a list too choose from). They offer beer and wine and last weekend I noticed they are serving mixed drinks now(margaritas, piña colada’s). Don’t be turned off by the décor… get the pizza and enjoy! I know you will! :)

Best pizza joint in Gloucester(however the competition is none too fierce). They have a nice sweet sauce and great crust. Whenever we have the hankering for Friday night pizza we take the extra few minute drive in stride for Capn Hooks. GREAT steak bomb subs as well. One dig is that(like all New England pizza joints) the wings are hideous.

Best Steak Bomb I have ever eaten, they mix salami in and it works like a charm, As a side dish, the rice balls are wonderful too. If you are headed to the beach, make a stop here first! its just up Rt. 127 past the Hospital!
