My friend has had this restaurant on his New York list for quiet some time now, so we decided to bus over here on a Saturday night to try some German food. Showing up at 6:00pm on Saturday evening without reservations is not a good idea on our part. The waitress, immediately said that the wait was 1 – 1.5 hours long. They take reservations but only for parties of 3 or more. So being a party of two and limited time-killing options in the area, we decided to wait and chat. You can also wait in the bar, which many other customers opted to do with their 1 liter glasses and boot glasses. But we aren’t big fans of beer(I know, I know, why even German food?) After the accurately predicted estimate of 1.5 hours, we were finally seated for our meal in the absolutely PACKED restaurant. For my first German food experience, we selected the Goulash Soup($ 5.95 cup), Jägerschnitzel($ 26.95), and Prime Rib Steak($ 34.95). We hoped to order one of the daily specials– Duck Roast, unfortunately they were out. The Goulash soup was quite delicious, filled with chunky meats and vegetables. My only qualm was the lukewarm temperature of the soup. In my opinion, soup should be steaming hot when it’s placed in front of you! The Jägerschnitzel and Prime Rib Steak were both ordinary dishes, no socks getting blown off here. Although the size of the steak was absolutely massive. I’d never seen such a huge chunk of meat on a plate in front of me before O_O Overall, with the average service and food, I give this place a solid 3 stars. During our 1.5 hour wait, I overheard customers absolutely raving about the delicious food. Per their reactions, I would be willing to try other items at this restaurant, but let’s avoid a Saturday night rush again.

My friend and I arrived at 6PM on a Saturday night and was curtly told that it would be over an hour wait. Since we had made the trek over and it was the last thing on my list of «places to eat in NYC,» we patiently waited for a table(our wait ended up being 70 minutes). The front entryway is a bit small so got cramped with all the people waiting for tables. They only take reservations for parties of three or more, and the restaurant is actually not that big so there aren’t that many tables/seats. Several would-be diners were turned away by the hostess’s rudeness; the prevailing theme seemed to be that the food here is good but the service mediocre. Notably, a table of four sat empty for over thirty minutes despite the throng of people waiting; we thought maybe it was being held for a reservation, but no one ended up being seated there, and the chairs actually were taken for use at another table later. When we were finally seated, we were quickly brought complimentary bread and my friend and I immediately placed our orders(we had had a lot of time to peruse the menu while waiting). Unfortunately, they ran out of duck(one of the Saturday specials), so we ended up ordering the jaegerschnitzel and prime rib, in addition to a cup of goulash. I really enjoyed the complimentary bread; it was warm and flakey, and a pretty decent size for two people(they give multiple loaves for larger parties). The goulash was flavorful, but definitely would have tasted better hotter(it was lukewarm). The entrees were good, and definitely were HUGE portions(the prime rib in particular was a ridiculous amount of meat, over 20 ounces for sure. Vegetables included but you might have to ask(the menu says«available on request»). My friend doesn’t eat that much meat, and she also doesn’t love mushrooms(jaegerschnitzel is covered in mushroom sauce), so I don’t think she really found this meal that enjoyable. I will say that I have had better German food for less elsewhere(e.g. Anaheim, CA and especially Fredericksburg, VA). Nonetheless, our waitress was actually pretty friendly, and I thought the interior was cute/made you feel like you were in Bavaria. Our total bill after tip came to $ 90(most entrees are $ 20+). Granted, the prime rib at $ 36 was a very generous amount of meat and we had leftovers of both entrees, so I guess overall value is debatable. I would recommend coming during a non-peak time; it will make your experience much more enjoyable!

Folkswagen like the car Volkswagen, meaning«for the people» is what Zum Stammtisch proved tonight. I had a long day at work and wanted to have a quiet dinner alone, just my guilty pleasure(food) and I. I decided to take a seat at the bar and not take up a table for 1 ol’ tiny person that can be used for 2 or more people.(Honestly, I really didn’t want to wait if there was going to be one. This craving had to be fed ASAP lol) The classic German styled bar instantly attracted me. Rustic wood and dark décor made me feel comfortable and calm, ready to take on a heavy hearty meal. The bartender Tommy said hello and asked how I was doing before I could even finish settling in on the hightop rotating bar wood chair that my small feet dangled from. I knew this was going to be the exact experience I’ve been looking for. I skimmed through the menu with pretty much an idea of what I already wanted. I asked for a particular taste and style of German beer and Tommy picked the perfect one and skilled the perfect pour. KUDOS to that! I started with their Deutscher Salat which consisted of a fresh homemade cucumber, carrot, beet, and cabbage salad with a loose type of consistency dressing. I saved just enough to take home and enjoy again. Then, I ordered my main dish. Can we say it was UBERLYDELICIOUS! Huhnerjager was my choice. Two thinly pounded cutlets, lightly breaded and topped with their savory, yummy hunter mushroom sauce. It came with home fries, but home fries are a breakfast side for me, so I substituted it for the Spätzle.(egg noodle) I worked on exactly half of this dish and had to pack the rest to go for a rainy day. I was overly satisfied and full. It hit the spot in every way that I was looking forward to. Danke und Jubel! (Cheers & Thank you)

Always clean with amazing food and beer selection. Found a cool beer I like too! The bread they give you when you order is amazing and so were the brats like always! We always go with a group of people and they never have any issues seating us. The bathrooms are always clean and stocked.

Zum Stammtisch WOW this place is unreal, without a doubt one of the 3 best meals my wife and I have had in 2015. I took my lovely wife Gail here for her birthday and am I glad I did. To start with Creamed Herring… to DIE for simply an explosion of flavor hard to rival. We then had our entrée’s. Gail had Sauerbraten and I had the Jagershnitzel with sides of the best Red Cabbage on the planet and sauerkraut. Not to mention the décor is right out of Germany as you would expect. To make the evening even more special there was an elderly gentleman who was celebrating his birthday, and he got up and sang German songs and played his harmonica and it was such fun. Back to the food it was nothing short of amazing we loved it and will go there again… HIGHLYRECOMEND

I grew up in Glendale and I may have gone to Zum Stammtisch as I child, but I did not remember. My dad took me here tonight before flying back to Tampa after Christmas. There was an hour long wait, but it was worth it! This place is very small and popular so if you have a party of 4 or more, you should make a reservation. We arrived around 5:30pm and did indeed wait an hour for our party of four. The building is very old and I don’t think that the décor has changed at all since it opened many many years ago. There is not a ton of seating, but they do have a small bar area to hang out at while you wait. There are maybe 10 barstools and plenty of long benches along the walls to sit with your German beer. There is a full liquor bar as well. If you want a true neighborhood bar experience, you’ll enjoy this place. The food is really the best part of coming here. Amazing German classics like wienerschnitzel, jaegerschnitzel, sauerbraten, brats, weisswurst, knockwurst, leberkase, spaetzle, red cabbage, sauerkraut, black forest cake, apple strudel, etc. My dad had the jaegerschnitzel which was plated on top of home fries. It was enormous! Very tasty and cooked perfectly. My sister had a bratwurst and knockwurst alongside potato salad and sauerkraut. Also tasty. I chose the steak tartare as I was feeling adventurous. It came served atop small bread pieces with potato salad. The quality of the meat was amazing! My grandmother had ordered this dish many times when she was alive and I have always wanted to try it. Glad I finally did! I would highly recommend this German restaurant if you are looking for a dark and classic place to dine with your family. Enjoy a pint of a good German beer and a giant plate of food! You won’t regret it!

Had a gathering with people from work. You open the door, and boom, Germany. Well, at least that is my image of Germany. The portions are huge so limit ordering too much appetizers but loved the steak tartare. I’ve never been here so I don’t know if it is always that crowded but it sure got packed on a Wednesday night quick. I also don’t know if this is because they were busy but the service was just ok. Of course they have great beers but wines by the glass are limited, especially I was told they only have 1 option for red by the glass, the house red wine.

I went here with my father and sister this past Saturday night for dinner — first off, try to make reservations. They were incredibly crowded, but the hour and 45 Minute wait we were projected turned out to only be just under an hour. The food was great, as were the beer selections. I was a fan of the vintage decorum in the place, which was presented festively for Christmas. If I had one complaint, it’d be that the service was slow. People who walked in well after us were served beforehand. Still very much a place I’d come back to.

I definitely felt like I was in Germany when I entered this place. It has a very«Oktoberfest» kind of feel and all of the waitresses were wearing the typical German wear. My boyfriend and I both got the prie fixed meal for just $ 21.95, which is a very good deal considering an entrée in itself is around the same price. We both got the goulash soup which was very rich in flavor. As for the entrée, we both got the Jägerschnitzel which is one of their popular entrees. The portions were huge and their house sauce is very good. For the dessert, we both got rice pudding! Along with our meal, we ordered a separate appetizer — smoked salmon latkes and they were SO good. It came in 3 potato pancakes and it was very filling. I would only recommend coming here for their prie fixed meal which is only offered on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Came here with the family for lunch today. My husband has been wanting to come here for awhile. We couldn’t miss the place since it was right on the corner of the block. The building is white with brown slanted stripes. We were able to find parking immediately on a side street nearby. When you first walk into the place, it looks like your walking into a bar. There is a long hallway and then upon entering you will see tables and chairs and booths along the wall. A busy waitress spotted us, asked us how many and asked if a booth was ok. We love booths so that was great! A waitress took out drink order as soon as we were seated. She was very attentive. The waitresses are dressed in a German folklore dress. I ordered water with lemon, the hubby had the Oktoberfest beer and my daughter ordered a ginger ale. We were given blue menus and one still had crumbs on it. Our drinks came and u went to put one on the coaster and realized the coaster had some stains on it as well. This is the reason I give 4 stars in lieu of 5. My husband loved his goulash soup. It was savory, yummy and full of meat. The Sauerbraten we both ordered was pretty good. I never had it before so I was surprised at the sour taste. I now know that is how it should taste. It came with two potato dumplings. We weren’t able to finish it all so we took the rest of it home for dinner. My daughter liked her cheeseburger from the kids menu. It was pretty big in size and came with a side pickle, lettuce and tomato. It also came with home fries with bacon bits in them. They also serve Jaegermeister here! I saw a customer having two of them. All in all this is a great place to try at least once, especially if you are looking for authentic German food. I think we will back here to try other things off the menu.

This place is great! We love the décor. It’s very cozy inside. We were here on a Sunday night for dinner. We were seated immediately. Our waitress were friendly & polite. She gave us the menu, bread, & explained to is about the special. We got the HB Dunkel beer, the Jägerschnitzel, & the 3 sausages. The Jägerschnitzel is breaded veal cutlet with mushroom gravy. As for the sausages, we got the classic bratwurst, knockwurst, & the krainewurst. The sausages came with sauerkraut & potato salad. They were just absolutely wonderful! Delicious! The portion is generous. We were stuffed! The service were great! Our waitress were attentive. We would definitely recommend this place for a good German food. We’ll definitely go back!

Ok so Koenigs in Floral Park has gone ist tot!(Dead) So we need our German food fix. Lorraine D, an elite Unilocaler, has sworn that this is the place to go. So here we are in Glendale Queens at Zum Stammtisch, loosely translated the same old table/place. It’s late Sunday afternoon and the place is packed! We ordered some wine, I know, I know but beer is not my favorite beverage. We then ordered schrimp cocktail. How can you go wrong? For the main course sauerbraten and jaegerschnitzel of course !!! Wunderbah! This will become our new go to German place! Does anyone know how we can get in touch with Minnie and Mickey!!!

A friend recently asked me to lunch and asked if I had a suggestion for a German restaurant, we were a few miles from Zum Stammtisch, I couldn’t wait to get there! The fact that we happened to be in the area and he wanted German was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. I had the Wienerschnitzel and my associate had the Sauerbraten, we were both in heaven! We also had herring salad, which was fantastic. The Wienerschnitzel came with sauerkraut that melted in your mouth, buttery and just the right relation of sweet and sour. The Sauerbraten was perfectly cooked with fabulous gravy, I have to go back soon it is so good. Excellent prices, very reasonable and big portions. As good as German gets in NY, the service is great, highly recommend.

After multiple recommendations I decided to try Zum Stammtisch for lunch with a friend. We each had a cup of goulash, which was amazing. My friend had 2 sausages(Bratwurst) with sauerkraut and creamed spinach, excellent choice. I had the Jagerschnitzel, very good, but in my opinion with too much sauce, which was almost overpowering. Will go back to try the sausages and sauerkraut.

This neighborhood restaurant is still going strong and serving up delicious German food. I feel bad not coming here as often especially since I live close by. Jaegerschnitzel was a big portion and tasty as I remember it, as was the Veal Cordon Bleu. Big portions, tasty food, pleasant service, clean restaurant and decent prices. You can’t go wrong eating here. Leave room for dessert! Although this is the review for the restaurant, their own butcher shop next door has great meats, sausages, tasty pinwheel steaks etc. to cook on your home BBQ grill. Delicious!

Whenever we are in NY and can get to Zum’s we get there! They make the absolute best German Cuisine around. The Jagerschnitzel is the best! The steak tartare is amazing as well. Not one bad meal on the menu. If you are near this place, go!

Perhaps the only downside to this place is the wait. But if you can manage that, you’re entering what seems to be German comfort food heaven! It all boils down to great service, nice portions, savory dishes, and that cozy down-home atmosphere. Loved it, would def wanna come back!
