There’s a reason why these restaurants are not a franchise. Being a family-owned business, they’re able to keep the quality of food very high. Great, friendly service. They’re family meal is nice to take home for dinner. I almost always want the tri tip shwarma plate. So very yummy. Tahini — delicious. Hummus — great. Lots of good pickles and peppers. Garlic sauce is addicting. Lots of seating here.

Always solid. Usually go for the chicken tarna plate or the kebab plates. It’s enough food for 2 – 3 meals. Falafel are light and crisp. Always always order extra garlic cocaine… I mean, sauce. It is not gourmet but it’s quality and consistent. The employees here are sassy, but in all the ways that matter.

Yummy, healthy and HUGE portions! My sis is new to the area and not knowing where to eat, we stopped in after driving by this place. Roasted chicken wrap was simple and delicious; we shared the hummus side(they gave us an entire bag of pitas for dipping) and it was great. Sis had the half chicken which was awesome and really big for one person. Garlic sauce that comes with it is spot on. Give it a try!

For some odd reason I always thought this was a teriyaki place… but turns out it’s not. It’s Mediterranean and also has a chipotle copycat Mexican place in the same space. I had the kebab mixed plate and it was unexpectedly good. It came with an awesome garlic sauce and both the steak and chicken were tender and well seasoned. Note that if you order the kebabs your order will take a little longer to come out, but that’s because they actually grill the meat from scratch when you order. Great for lunch.

Shawarmamania! It has been awhile since I’ve had a Zankou shawarma so driving past Glendale on a Sunday afternoon seemed like a good idea. This seemed like a new location sharing the building with a mexican taco place which was a weird combo and made the place feel like a food court at a mall. I went with the usual beef shawarma wrap with extra garlic paste. Seriously, what really makes this place is that garlic paste. It definitely what you would call a guilty pleasure. Why? Because a slather on a good serving each time a take a bite of my shawarma. It is definitely hard to knock out Zankou when it comes to Shawarma. It seems like they are just opening up locations everywhere in the glendale /burbank area. I hope that is a good business strategy.

This place is amazing for a healthy alternative to fast dining. Their wrap selection is Amazing. They use prime select cuts of meats and slow roast to lock the flavor in food.

Fast service and delicious chicken. I also loved the bread, hummus, and salad that came with it all. The seasoning on the chicken is fantastic and the skin has a nice crispy char.

Excellent service, amazing food, perfectly cooked and seasoned chicken. I usually get the chicken kabob wrap/sandwich, hummus and falafel. The staff is always helpful when I order I’ve even got many discounts and free food here just because I guess I’m a familiar face?. Definitely good business here. Chicken is seasoned great, hummus actually taste like it should and the falafels are VERY good ONLY if fresh. They some times have the falafels sitting out for to long and then there absolutely horrible. That’s the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Décor is good, cleanliness is good, bathrooms are clean.

Ordered the ½ Chicken plate, little too much food for me and wasn’t able to finish. The chicken was flavorful except the breast meat was on the dry side. Solved that by eating it with the whipped garlic sauce. The garlic sauce is what makes the meal… mixed it with hummus and makes the hummus creamy and much tastier. Just make sure you got plenty of breathe mint or avoid any social contact after the meal.

I have been a fan of this chain since my days at PCC many many moons ago. I was so stoked to discover a few locations closer than Pasadena when I moved back from Detroit and moved into Glendale. I am a total sucker for the garlic sauce that goes so well with the tarna and schwarma wraps that I usually order. The service is fast and friendly, the food is tasty and affordable. The massive chicken dinners could feed a family without any problem. I like the flavor of the chicken but I always seem to go for the beef choices. The hummus has a great flavor and goes fabulously well with the fresh pita they serve with it. I always try to make this one of the first stops I make with out of towners, it usually ends up that my guests request a second and sometimes third visit before their departures. I think Zankou is an LA foodie landmark much like Pink’s, Porto’s, Sprinkles, etc.

Always super yummy, at every location I have gone to. Great option for dinner or lunch. Note, the kabobs take 10 — 15 minutes and you will get your food later than your friend who ordered something else. They are just soooo yummy, worth the extra wait.

This is my go to place whenever I want something fast and downright don’t feel like cooking. I am not a huge fan of fast-food, it worries me; unless it’s in-n-out because I’m from southern california, so it’s a given craving. With that, I have no problem eating here. I usually get the ¼ white meat chicken combo plate with hummus and tabbouleh. I then tear up my pita bread and make little pocket sandwiches stuffed with the three items. YUM. I have also tried their lulu kabob and chicken shawarma, but always end up back at my go to. So, if you’re near one and need something fast, but don’t want to settle on the jack in the crack, I recommend you go here. Aside from all that oil/butter I’m sure they make that roasted chicken with — it’s a much more tasty and healthy option.

The girl at the register said that the shwarma was the same as gyros, or maybe she said it was like gyros. In any event, I was mislead. It was nothing like gyros. It was a tri-tip, which I didn’t care for. It was dry. The hummus was very good, and so was the tahini. The service was very good.

Yes, I am giving this place five stars. Why? Because I do believe it is ‘as good as it gets’. You get a tasty salad of lettuce and large chunks of tomato The white meat chicken has TONS of meat on it The hummus is delicious and they don’t skimp on the syrian bread When I go here, I just feel happy eating the food. It’s simple but oh so effective. Yum yum!

This location is great. There are plenty of seats even when it is crowded and the service is usually very fast. I love their chicken. I usually get the chicken tarna wrap. It’s basically some chciken wrapped in some pita bread with some tomatoes and some sauce. Their chicken meals are great too, they come with hummus… but that’s a bit too much food for me, I need to stay functional at work. If you like garlic, get the garlic sauce/spread! It’s so good! Oh and their tri-tip wraps are good too, but not nearly as good as their chicken wraps.

ZANKOU — THANKYOU! Bless you, I love you, etc! I’ve been to 3 other locations, but this is my favorite one. Both the chicken and beef shawarma are unreal, very seasoned, and if you get the combo… you’ll get rice & their amazing hummus to go along with it! Very fresh, and very delish! For fast-foodie style, this is a great place.

Mediterranean Chipotle and Sidewalk Café - - I have a lot to do today. I’m taking time to set up in this Glendale Zankou Chicken/Sidewalk Café(where the open Hot Spot is) to write about this place. People write about this chain of restaurants as fast food. It is definitely five star fast food. This place is contemporary urban USA. Lots of the world’s people hanging out here, grabbing a coffee, latte, or expresso. Other reviewer and Unilocal*call this Mediterranea or Armenian. Its got a lot of American, a little Italian, and one scrumptious looking pastry case. My Western Omelette was loaded with veggies, my red potatoes flavored with rosemary and ginger, two of my favorite flavors. I had a decent cup of coffee and fresh squezzed orange juice. I got spoiled traveling, and love my fresh squeezed orange juice. There’s a full range of Mediterannean/Greek/Mideast kinds of food, from chicken to gyro and shawarma. If you’re in the neighborhood, stop by for any meal to enjoy the diversity of flavors, global music, accents and languages.

Zankouuuu Chickennnn… garlic sauceee.jeeeeeyahhhhhh.the bomb diggity! I like this location way better than some of the other locations I’ve been to. This one is located inside Sidewalk café. I love the Chicken Tarna. The staff is super nice, they are not stingy like other Zankous, they give you extra garlic sauce without charging you and they even give you free pitas without an extra charge. After eating my chicken tarna I like to go up to the counter ask them for a hot pita and dip it in the garlic sauce and savor every bite. Yesss I have to admit they are on the salty side buttt it’s okay once in a while. 2 thumbs up for Zankou chicken! :)

I’ve gotten Zankou quite a few times at the 1415 E Colorado St location, and since this is a rather successful chain, the other locations should be as good, right? NOPE! Hmm. what did I get at this location? Oh yeah, I decided to try the falafel plate, since falafel is usually yummy. Oh boy, how wrong I was… it was the most salty thing I’ve ever eaten! It was difficult downing just two of those falafel balls, and I nearly drowned by body in water and Gatorade that afternoon. Never again, I’m not just rating on their falafels; I’ve also tried a couple of their kababs at this location, and they were significantly more salty than the ones at their other Glendale location. The best Zankou I’ve had is worth 4 stars, but unfortunately, this location only deserves 1.
