OMG … this place is my newest addiction. SOOO much better than Mabuhay a few blocks away. Actually don’t even waste your time at Mabuhay … Atmosphere is awesome, the restaurant is very clean, service is wonderful, everyone is so nice and sweet. Best thing to order if you love salt is the CRISPYBINAGOONGAN … holy cow! The halo halo for dessert is fantastic. and big enough for 4 people!

I love this place but they need to work on their communication. My boyfriend put in an order for 2 orders of bbq skewers and the lady repeated the order to him 2 times confirming. We get there and we only realize we have one order while driving back. We called them and they just told us to come back to pay for another one but it isn’t worth coming back to. I guess I’m going to have to look for another Filipino restaurant. Definitely needs work in communication and customer service. If you come here just triple confirm your order.

Please order anything off the grill, beware otherwise. I do not recommend this restaurant for authentic QUALITY Filipino food.

Great Filipino food and fast service. Their kare-kare both seafood and regular, binagoongan, atay or liver and inihaw fiesta. For the price of their specialty dishes it would be better to have the rice included.

Out of the 4 times Ive gone out to eat in the past two weeks, Ive been to Hong Ning twice — a testament to just how delicious I think this restaurant is. Definitely underrated and easy to overlook. Don’t make that mistake! Would give 4.5 if I could. I can’t speak much for the Chinese food(we ordered 4 Filipino dishes each time) but it seems that the Filipino food is likely more authentic(the servers are all Filipino). My ignorance shows here in that I cannot for the life of me remember the names of the dishes we had. But it was all delicious and timely. Highly recommend!

This was the first time I ate at this restaurant. Service was ok, place is clean. The pinakbet was very salty, too much shrimp paste. The pancit bihon was very greasy and also salty. My husband said I make much better pakbet and pancit. Good price for the eggrolls though, but they are just so so. We brought a lot of leftovers home but did not eat them as they were too salty. If i ever go back, I’ll try other stuff and see how they compare to my cooking. So far, not impressed with this restaurant.

Ill keep this simplified! First time I walked in with my wife no one greeted us or acknowledged us. Waited 3 – 4 minutes and no employees to be found. We walked out and at across the street at Jou Terriyaki. 2nd time went on Monday but they were closed. Third time is a charm… i figure we give a 3rd try since I hear great things about their food… decided to order carryout. Walked in and was excited… then another customer walked in after me and the cashier/server decided to ring him up and give him his food, rung him up made me wait.(wth) On top of that our order was wrong as they forgot our second entrée. This place needs customer service training for sure. After getting our food, i can tell you that it was delicious and outsanding. Just train staff for better customer service and this could easily be 5 starred. 2 stars for the Chef and kitchen staff.

Excellent food. A little more expensive than others in the area but well worth it. I love the chicken bbq, fried shrimp, and their pancit.

One of the best Filipino restaurant around here at the burbs! Me and my family loves this place. My boyfriend who is non-Filipino also loves it here. The staff was very friendly and attentive on what you need. The food is authentic Filipino; we always always order crispy pata, pansit miki and taho. The only this is that the place is small so if its full, you have to wait until a party leaves but other than that, everything is amazing. I believe they are going to move soon so I am excited to visit the new place with the whole squad. Hopefully somewhere big! God bless :)

Tastes like my mother in law’s cooking!(Obviously she is Filipino, lol!) We came here for Mother’s Day since my MIL and I both did not want to cook. She hadn’t been here for a while but said the food is just as good as she can remember. I love it! I forgot the name but my favorite dish of their’s has some kind of greens(bok choy or some Asian broccoli), eggplant and ox tail in a peanut buttery sauce… SOOOOOO good! The meat literally falls of the bone! The meat is soft and super flavorful! Definitely coming back and trying more!

Don’t know much about Filipino dishes so I tried the Chinese ones at this place that has a good size menu. The place is small and has a small dinning experience in a dilapidated strip mall. They have a wide variety of Filipino dishes on the menu and there are not many places in burbs that has these exotic and rare dishes so this place is a place to treasure and try out. A really cute place though some would snob at its size and age. The hong ning stir fry was excellent

Someone recommended this place to us so we decided to have a late lunch in this Filipino resto. We were seated immediately even though this restaurant is small and was packed when we were there. I ordered a plate of sisig and sinigang and our food were served to us in less than 10 mins. The sisig is okay, I’ve had better lol. Their sinigang is too sour for me. I grew up in Manila and sinigang dish for tagalogs are not too sour like from this restaurant.

Delicious Filipino dishes and really friendly wait staff. The Shanghai lumpia are the tastiest things I’ve ever eaten.

Really good home cooked(ish) Filipino dishes. I believe the owner may be part Chinese hence Chinese items in the menu(???). Any who, 3 stars for the taste, quality, and selection. This joint is located in a strip mall. The ambiance is über generic no attention to décor or beauty. But you don’t come here to get awed in its beauty, people come here to taste authentic Filipino dishes. As for service, non existent just like any Chinese restaurant. Again, people don’t come here for ambiance or service. I think this place is a bit pricey, price range from around $ 10-$ 12 per plate/entrée(good for sharing). They do have«rice plates» which runs around $ 7-$ 9 per plate serving 1 individual. Must have: ampalaya con carne, sizzling fish, bbq chicken skewer(tender and super tasty), halo halo Because I’m lazy and I can’t cook as great as they do, I will come back. If my parents make me go. And they pay for it. Enjoy some culture eating =)

Delicious, comforting Filipino soul food can be found here if your Filipino mom or dad decided they didn’t wanna cook today! Obviously my parents cooking is always gonna trump any Filipino Restaurant food, but Hong Ning has been around for so long for a reason. They’re doing something right(although it is definitely not the wait service). I recently tried the inihaw fiesta which was a pile of grilled protein and seafood goodness. I mean you just can’t grill up marinated pork belly(liempo) and not wanna shovel it into your mouth as fast as you can. It’s so good. Definitely try the bangus(milkfish) served fried and butterflied. I eat so much chicken at home that I rarely eat chicken at restaurants, but the sizzling chicken was a winner with my fiancé. Sizzling Sisig is another tasty and fatty treat. Sinigang served family style is also a hit. I love that they also serve Filipino drinks like sago! The Halo-halo(shaved ice) needs some work, there’s not a lot of places you can get halo halo in the burbs but, man, just because you’re the only place I can get it, doesn’t mean you should half ass this wonderful dessert. Despite the pretty good food, I have to take off two stars because the service is consistently lacking. I came with a group of friends and it took absolutely forever to be served, and the last time I went with my fiancé I asked for boxes and water refills and never got it, had to go up to the counter for water, boxes and the check. With food this salty it’s really really crappy to not have water on hand. I guess it’s just one of my pet peeves, too. I don’t enjoy being stuck crunching ice because I’m so thirsty. Please please please step up the service game!

I came here with high hopes earlier this week, considering I neglected to consult Unilocal before my visit and went with my friends’ rave reviews instead. I wanted flavors upon flavors, reminiscent of my mom’s own flip cooking, and realized after the first bite of uncrunchy lumpia(probably fried a week ago) that my party of 6 and I would be in for a disappointing evening. They were out of a few items my table ordered and when my food — I ordered the Kare Kare — did manage to arrive, it wasn’t even warm. To sum up my entire experience here — food, décor, service — with one word, I think«bland» would be putting it nicely.

We had a pleasant experiences on both our visits do far. Served by the same lady who is so friendly and attentive to our needs. The place is almost always full which is good for their business and probably costumers will suffer some hurried service, but its okay as long as we get our yummy food fast :) Crispy pata is our go to. Their jackfruit vegetable dish is awesome!!! And the binagoongan is good. The crispy dinuguan is so so. I rarely enjoy Filipino restos or food lately until i came to this place. We will come back for more and will bring our local friends along!

On the way back from a big teppanyaki lunch and an afternoon at Cantigny, one of our party of ten(everybody but me Filipino) suggested stopping in here for a snack. «Snack” – that’s an old Tagalog word meaning „Hey, it’s been three hours since lunch, and three hours until dinner. Mayday! Mayday! Starvation is imminent!“ This is a nicely-decorated shopping-center storefront. It describes itself as Chinese and Filipino, but the menu’s emphasis is definitely on the latter. Most of our party ordered halo-halo(„mix-mix,“ a sort of sundae). In a big bowl, one scoop of good vanilla ice cream with a mysterious orange crust which as far as I could tell contributed nothing to the flavor. Two kinds of gelatin(green pandan and orange), two kinds of sweet beans, purple yam, a sprinkle of Rice Krispies, all served over shaved ice. Very tasty and substantial. Others in the party also ordered the leche flan(silky vanilla custard in a lovely caramel sauce), crispy pata(pork), and siao pao(meat buns).“Snack» indeed! Maybe not worth a special trip from the city, but if you happen to be in Glendale Heights…(Hey, it could happen!)

Filipino comfort food. Mami soup, inihaw fiesta(grilled squid, clams, fish, pork, and chicken bbq), kare kare, and halo halo. Delish. Filling. Plenty left over for lunch tomorrow. Service was very friendly, but not proactive. Had to ask for water, napkins, more water, check, etc. This was our first visit and we will definitely be back.
