RIP Iron Horse Lots of memories after 30+ years of operation. Perhaps all good things must come to an end. Iron Horse served its final meal and cocktail on January 15, 2016.

Excellent selection of food, delicious tater tots, and some solid beer specials. It’s a good place for a quick bite with some friends.

I wish I could leave a zero review. We have been patrons of the iron horse for years upon years, our families were patrons of the place. It hurts us to know how it is run now. I came in with my husband for a night cap and immediately upon our arrival Lorraine the bartender was rude to us when we were asking about what was on tap. Either way we didn’t care at that point, we had a night away from our 8 month old so we were happy and ignored it. Later though when I was trying to close out, she said that the new system asked for us to tip upon paying. No problem, I said to put a 7 $ tip on a 21 $ tap. After she ran it she came and literally threw the check, card and pen three spots down the bar away from me. I retrieved it and signed it. I explained to my husband how I felt a little disrespected and wanted to leave. He asked the bartender why she threw the check like she did and the bartenders boyfriend got in my husband’s face. He began yelling about how my husband had to apologize. He looked like he was about to become violent and I became very concerned. As per our professions, we actively avoid conflict. In a few minutes the situation calmed down when then bartender began again bad mouthing my husband and I got upset. We then left.

I’ll keep this review short and simple, and sweet too. The Waitress is very nice to her customers, and she is definitely attentive most of the times(unless its crazy busy, which is understandable, because they could use some extra help). The food is 3⁄5 Stars personally. It is hit or miss with the dishes, and sometimes the food comes out a little cold to my liking or a little stale as well. I recommend the chicken in the basket and the roast beef platter(ask for rare). Those two dishes never seem to get mixed up or messed up for that matter. That’s why its good for me to go there when I am in the mood for those 2 dishes. A BIG downside of this place is there is flies everywhere. I kid you not. Flies while I am eating, is very disgusting and it cannot be healthy. I am quite sure if there are flies always around the dining area, there must certainly be flies in the kitchen. Someone should look into that quite frankly. Lastly, the alcoholic drinks are decent and prices are fair for both food/drink. Also, if anyone does go here more than a couple times, you’ll notice it is exactly the same individuals at the bar every night, the same line up, and the same few creepy guys who cannot help but to stare at any decent looking girl. Like I said 3⁄5 stars. Some good food options, some decent drinks, a decent bunch of creeps and a nice waitress to tip it off for a whipping 3 stars!

I work down the block, so today I stopped in for a lunch. It wasn’t too crowded, and they have a good selection of American/pub type foods. I got the mozzarella sticks this time around, and they came very quickly, as did my soda from the bartender. Nice staff, and yummy food– will be back for future lunches!

Local dive bar is about the right term. But it’s comfortable, welcoming and has the best damn burgers on the North Shore.

Best pub food for the price. Courteous bartenders and wait staff. Bucket of nips is a great deal. You could throw a dart at the menu and not come up short. Yes it’s a dive bar, if you are looking for the latest and greatest yuppie bar don’t bother going. This is the kind of place that you can go in sweats and sneakers and not feel out of place.

Locals bar situated at Glen Head train station. The have themed nights, rib night, steak night. Wednesday’s are German night and always packed. Plan ahead of you’re going there on a Wednesday night, they might run out of what German combination you might want. They run specials all week long. Burgers are fresh and juicy. Their prices are very reasonable. Great to pop in from time to time.

My wife and I have come here many a time, and I’ve taken friends who just wanted to grab a bite — none of them have ever complained about The Iron Horse and neither have I. The waitresses have always been solid and the food, although not 5 star, has always been plenty and very good. Lot of remarks on German night and I agree. I’ve always gotten the sampler and always think that for the price, I should have gotten half of the plate that’s always given to me — great value. I’ve never been disappointed with the service or the food in over the nine years I have been going.

Great pub grub and I hear their German night is always a hit. Have not had a bad meal here and have been going a few times a year since 2005.

Ironhorse is your typical town bar. It is rugged looking with a western feel and hearty menu items. My favorites include their burgers served any way possible and their french onion soup. Even though this place is never crowded, service is slow so be patient! They always make it just right!

never-mind the décor; the food and the service are super solid. Call a spade a spade — this is the local dive bar, but for all the right reasons. Check you ego at the door, come as you are — the locals are friendly, the jukebox is great, the drinks are cold. If you have kids(I do — young ones at that) — this place is perfect — what better place to get a little rowdy and have a drink and catch the game. If you are looking for the über-trendy gastro-pub or exotic cuisine — this is NOT that. If you want a place with great regular food, without a crazy price tag — iron horse is your place. Their daily specials are great, but the portions are huge.

Love this place. Even though I haven’t been here in years, we used to be a friggin staple at this joint. My sister and a group of our friends all worked in the same facility, and we would call our order in and then come for a sit down lunch: buffalo wings fried zucchini(with a bowl of buffalo sauce to dip in) loaded baked potatoes mozzarella sticks a corona, a malibu bay breeze, and whatever other girlie drink my sis was putting down at the time. the people that worked there would lead us to a table with our food already set, bring a drink, and have the next one waiting when we were done. We’d refer to the Ironhorse as «church» so it wouldnt’ seem strange that we were going to the bar in the morning. It almost makes me wish I still lived in that hood. almost.

This is a little piece of heaven on the very often STUFFY and Expensive Gold Coast. I lived on the north shore for 9 years before I found this place, and it was 9 years to late. Great bartenders, old school crowd. Awesome food. Price is excellent. $ 9 for a bucket of bud or coors light nips? HOWCANYOUGOWRONG.

A dumpy looking bar situated at the Glen Head train station. Having said that, the food is far better than one might think. Wednesday night is probably our favorite. It’s German night and there are hearty portions of schnitzel as well as wursts, not to mention Spaten on tap. Skirt steak(Fri) and prime rib(Sat) are very good as well. If your appetite is not quite as large, their numerous hot sandwiches and burgers are good as well. Very reasonable prices for the portions.

Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. For years I swore this was a biker bar — and never ventured in. Silly me, I should have known better. It is an excellent pub sitting just off the LIRR Glen Head station — thus the name. Cheap, yet delicious food can be had here and the place caters to a nice cross section of locals. Great little bar, and there is even a train set up around the top of the dining room — although it wasn’t moving when I was there. Prices are stupid cheap for the amount of food — and the help was just great. The menu is typical pub fare– plus daily specials which all looked good. I will definitely go back there. Parking lot in front.
