My son has been training here for several months in the kids class, and we love it! John and Carlos are awesome! They drill the basics, emphasizing fundamentals and development of strength, agility, and flexibility, while also building the training into a cohesive and applicable skill set. They teach discipline but in a very kid-friendly way. We have met so many great families here. Gilroy BJJ offers free introductory lessons, which is great for those interested in checking it out firsthand. Such a great value for the price! Update(+1year later): Still loving this place! My younger son joined his brother, and they both enjoy it. Such a great, welcoming class for boys and girls. Great opportunity to learn and practice in a safe environment. My kids really enjoy the«games» at the end of class. The games are always inventive, fun, and very often reinforce the basic principles, all while giving the kids some extra exercise time. Could not give a higher recommendation!

I competed against Carlos a few years back at the Gracie open. Found him to be a very gracious and unassuming person. His humble character on the mat, I’m sure, will be conveyed in his teaching style. Couple that with the fact that Gilroy has one of the best wrestling programs in the state and you’ve got a pretty solid place to train. BJJ enthusiasts are lucky to have this place right in your own backyard.

Great place to train. Everyone here has their regular lives yet still dedicates on average 10 – 15 hours per week in training both on the mat and on their own. Majority of the folks that train here, compete regularly and medal just as often, I’d really give that honor to the instructors; few will push you as hard as Carlos, mentally and physically he’s been a huge help in helping me prep for competition. If competition is your aim, he’s the man pre-comp diet and exercise routines as well as understanding your game plan from stepping on the mat, to fight, down to finishing every match. Look him up… If you can listen and put the time in on the mat, John can and will show you where you need to improve and how to get there. By ripping apart«your game» and showing you how to work around everything from flexibility constraints, to using too much strength down to how to keep your calm, he’s been my instructor since i heard of BJJ and probably will be until i can’t roll anymore. It’s a small gym with plenty of mat, what you do with it is up to you. I’ve lost weight, gained cardio and learned allot about myself all within the last 4 years without any formal martial arts or wrestling background. Come with a smile check your ego, learn from everyone on the mat and I will guarantee«you’ll learn something every class, if you don’t you weren’t paying attention»
