Save the drive. The doors were closed permanently last Sunday.

Went to see my sister-in-law and her husband for the weekend in Georgetown and for dinner they took us here. So glad they did! The place is adorable, looks like a little log cabin outside and then inside the place is lit with tiny lights, has checked curtains and grapes and antlers decorate the walls. It is small ask cozy and I just loved it. The food is also amazing! We started with the fried zucchini and potato skins. The potato skins were a little bland but the zucchini was perfect. For dinner I ordered beef stroganoff and my husband got bratwurst. Dinner came with soup, salad and bread rolls. The soup appears to possibly be homemade and very flavorful. The salad and bread were simple, good. With the first bite of stroganoff I was in heaven. The flavor was perfect and the meat was so tender it just fell apart. My husband enjoyed his bratwurst but he’s not much of a sauerkraut guy so I think the dish was kind of lost on him. For dessert I had Apple streusel and he had cheesecake. Both of us were very pleased with our desserts. I look forward to visiting the in-laws again and getting to have the stroganoff once more. I was worried when I heard the place was being sold but then immensely relieved to hear the new owners were to be our waitress and her husband who is the cook there.

NOTCLOSING! Sorry for shouting, but after months of a for sale sign outside and the desire of the owner to move back to Germany Camp Virner will stay in business. Evidently an agreement was reached with the chef who will assume more day to day management of the restaurant. The community is relieved as it is one of a few places in the area for a decent dinner. We went there last night(Saturday) and the place was just about full by 7:00.

Had dinner at Camp Virner for the first time, last night. We were impressed from the moment we walked in. The décor was warm and very attractive. My wife and I both enjoyed our entrees as well the soup and salad that came with the dinners. The wine was reasonably priced and good. We will definitely return soon. Great place for dinner.

Reserved ahead for our party of eight. The drive up was nice, but not worth it when we arrived. We were met with rudeness and disrespect. When we walked into the bar area, no one was there, so we waited as some members of our party used the restroom. A «hostess» appeared and said very rude«what do you want», and we were shocked with her approach and said we had reservations. She then continued to berate our party about how we were wrong to wait in the entryway and pointed to a corner and said«I’m seating you over there». I never sat down because we all decided to leave because of the rudeness, I have never been treated so poorly before. A simple«welcome, come on in» would have definitely created a different impression. I do not recommend this place to anyone.

I would go out of my way for the Weiner Schnitzel at Camp Virner. This restaurant is a great find. It is warm and cozy and has the feel of a mountian lodge. They have a wonderful menu with German, Italian and American Foods. The Prime Rib(off the American menu) is great, and the Weiner Schnitzel off of the German menu is fantastic. Meals come with a green salad and a small cup of potato soup. The cup of soup is just enough to satisfy and leave you wanting more! There are so many offerings on the Italian and German menus that you can return many times and have a new adventure.

Lovely cabinesque restaurant with charming very hard working wait staff. The prices and flavor is best for the German food Lovely place for celebrating while not formal or stuffy. Love the Weiner Schnitzel.

A great find way out in the woods! Good for kids, friendly wait staff with German accents, and great food. The menu had German, Italian, and American(prime rib) items. Not overwhelming at all. Prices are reasonable and homemade food served quickly. The sauerkraut was excellent. Apple strudel to cap the night! German beer on tap!

I have never left Camp Virner hungry. This place knows how to feed a mountain man. Every dinner comes with bread, soup and salad, and a hearty main course. I always get the wiener schnitzel, and a side of sauerkraut. It’s delicious! I’ve also sneak a few bites of the girlfriends plate as well, and everything I’ve tried has always been good. The owners and staff are extremely friendly and caring. I’ve never been let down when it comes to service. The ambiance really makes you feel like your in a old mountain cabin, and if your up there in the winter there’s always a roaring fire going to keep you warm while you feast. Virner is a good choice if your looking for some quality German faire, they also have the standard Italian, and American dishes as well.

I moved to the area last summer and discovered this place about about two months ago. Since then, my wife and I have eaten here several times and we can’t wait to go back each time. The food is excellent, the drinks are honest(well portioned) and the prices very reasonable. The owners are are very kind and accommodating. I’ve had the prime rib special with all of the trimmings, and it was excellent. My wife gave me some of her lasagna, and it was delicious. I’ve had the schnitzel with spaetzle and the Heidelburg steak, all excellent! It is such a delight to have this great restaurant so near home.

The menu is huge and confused(American, Italian, & German selections), so it was a bit overwhelming, but my wife and I decided to stick to the German menu, as recommended by a waitress. We ordered the Winer Schnitzel and the Sausage dishes. It was our first time having German food, and it was delicious. the winner between the two was the Winer Schnitzel. Both plates came with bread, soup, and salad. We were not very impressed with the soup, as it tasted like a canned Ministrone, but the salad and bread rolls were good! For being one of only a few restaurants in the area, we were impressed with our meal.

Just an FYI… They do not open until 5pm and are only open Thursday through Sunday. So, don’t plan on lunch or a beginning of the week trip. Also, it is a little bit outside of Georgetown on the right. You won’t miss it. So if you are thinking you passed it, keep going. LOL!

Great value with pleasant atmosphere busy professional staff but they make it happen. Had the wiener schnitzel with dumplings and red cabbage. Comes with very good small cup of potato soup and salad. Good German beer on tap. The German menu is somewhat limited but they have selection of Italian, steaks and prime rib. Beautiful drive up from Folsom as well. Two large meals & three beers for a total of $ 48 a great deal.

Our food was delicious and the service was prompt and kind. I wouldn’t recommend this for hard core foodies, but if you like home cooking(and you happen to be German or Irish) and cozy, traditional settings then this place is a great choice!

Everything we ordered was quite delicious, the minestrone, the wiener schnitzel, the German dumplings and the spaetzle with mushroom sauce… even the strawberry daiquiri I started out with was very good! This is a great place to come after a motorcycle ride, especially if you’re starving. Camp Virner serves generous portions and the food’s so good, you just want to finish what’s on your plate. :)

If you’re enticed to visit to get the prime rib, make sure you call ahead to reserve some, or at least try to remember that you are in the middle of nowhere and places don’t stay open very late. We arrived at 7:30 and they had already sold out — when the table next to us lamented this fact to the server, she said«well, we close in an hour.. .» aka — you are WAYTOOLATEFOLKS. Early bird specialists will love it. Food was mediocre, service was lovely.

Two words: Wiener schnitzel. Hands down delicious. I either talked myself into to believing I wasn’t eating veal, or it was actually just good ol’ regular beef and not an itty bitty calf. It didn’t say veal on the menu, so I assumed it was not veal. This place is homey with a nice local feel to it. Service was great too. The lasagna my fiancé ordered however was just awful to be honest. It didn’t taste very good and the bottom of it was actually burned. I didn’t like seeing him not enjoy his meal. That is why it’s 3 stars instead of 4 or 5. If we ever come back to this area, we will come back, because my fiancé deserves to have his own plate of awesome wiener schnitzel. Definitely worth the calories!

Picture this… We live in Rocklin, Ca. It’s Saturday evening about 4:45pm and I’m itching to take a little drive. I’ve always wanted to take Hwy-49 South-East of Auburn and explore Georgetown and/or Foresethill. I though I’d surprise my girlfriend with a romantic drive up the mountain to a little town and have dinner. I read the reviews others had posted on Unilocal about Camp Virner Italian & American Restaurant and so I secretly decided that’s where we would go! I said let’s go, and one of the nice things about my girlfriend is she’s always up for an adventure. Rocklin to Auburn is easy…10min drive… We got off on Hwy-49 and got a little turned around in Auburn but soon we were heading towards Georgetown(Via Cool, CA). The drive from Auburn to Cool is pretty twisty turny and you want to be sober for this strench coming home. You get to Georgetown and take Main St. up the hill… it turns into Wentworth Springs Road. It was raining and as we drove the 6-miles from Georgetown to the restaurant it started snowing!!! Yes Snowing… 6-miles later you are at 3,400 feet! The place was all lit up with x-mas lights and cars parked out front. It was obviously a popular place. We parked and hurried in as it was snowing and we were cold! You walk in it’s warm, cozy, romantic and smells good! It’s like a big cabin with low ceilings. It felt like we were in Europe up in the alps or something… An attractive german? lady sat us and took our drink orders. I had a Beck’s and started looking at the menu. The menu had a whole page of German specials. It seems more like a German restaurant than an Italian place! I order the Salisbury Steak, Mashed Potatoes and Carrots. It was delicious!!! My girlfriend ordered the Shrimp Pasta and said it was good too. Favorite part was that they bring you Salad AND Soup with your dinner(not just one or the other)…The soup a homemade Chicken Noodle was amazing and 100% homemade. and the salad dressing tasted homemade too. I loved the mini-croutons. I gave the place 4-stars + 1 Star for being so darn cute, romantic and excellent service with a smile from your ordinary service staff. This place is obviously a family love and we will be back for sure! W.Gipson Rocklin, CA
