We are family of 5 on vacation from faraway land, Malaysia. We overnight at Newark prior to our flight to Seattle. We found Latona on Unilocal with 5-Star rating and a review that stated one must try Latona’s Caponata at least once in the life time. We decided to give it a try for breakfast. We had sandwiches and a plater of appetizer that included Caponata, Seafood Salad, Sautéed Mushroom, tomato mozzarella, mixed olive and macaroni salad. They were all great! The owner family members are all very friendly and helpful. Great experience and memory for our last breakfast in north east US before our flight to Seattle. Cheers.

This specialty store is a little jewel located in Garfield NJ. If you have not had a chance to try it, your missing out on a great find. It’s ambiance starts from the moment you enter the store. This mother and son team give you the best of both worlds. The front of the store houses beautiful dinnerware, flatware and such that brides or anyone who entertains will enjoy just gazing upon. As you walk up the steps which leads you to an array of home made Italian delicacies, you will soon have the problem of deciding what you will buy. Problem solved, anything you purchase will make all people feel as though they hit the jackpot. The food is so fresh, authentic and Made on the premises, that most people will wish they came across this sooner. And the taste? Worth the trip again and again. While your there look up and take a glance at the terrific copper ceiling, you also can’t help but notice how impeccable the store is kept. You’d be hard pressed to find any place in NJ that can beat it. Try it, you’ll love it.

Great family business. Cold cuts, homemade sauces, o;ives, cheese, fresh mozz and various daily lunch specials all you would expect from a great Italian deli. I usual come here for the to pick up Ricotta(they carry a great one that comes in the metal can) and I end up walking out with a few different delicacies.

OK, listen closely: «Caponata». Now go to the counter and ask for it. Please, at least once in your life you must experience Latona’s caponata. Got it? «Cah-Poe-Nada» You can do it. Now go! Quickly!(Everything else is delicious too, by the way).

BEST. VODKASAUCE. YOU’LL. EVER. HAVE. Oooooomg I cannot rave enough about it. Yes, definitely on the pricey side… but worth every penny. I never throw a jar out without scraping off every molecule of sauce with whatever bread-like item I can find in the kitchen, or my tongue. No shame. To waste a drop would be an insult to this magical tomato elixir. Simply amazeballs and unlike any vodka sauce I’ve tasted — super creamy, just the right amount of spice, a hint of heat, and full of flavor. The products also make for great gifts!

Stuffed Peppers. My goodness those things are to die for. I’m not sure if they sell them every day or if they are only made as a specialty but if you see those on the counter don’t just buy one buy multiple.

I mean really really big and you can tell it tasted fresh. The place itself is so cute. I felt like I was walking into an Italian style home… The deli is in the back of the store. The owner is extremely accommodating and helpful. Years ago they were strictly just a deli, but when theirson joined the family business he helped expand on it with beautiful gift baskets and gift sets. Also the store has been beautifully renovated. Fun fact, it has been opened for more then a half century And originally opened as a small grocery store when it first opened. They have a wonderful fresh selection of cold cuts and top notch prosciutto. The sausage here is some of the best in NNj if not all of NJ. It’s really tough to say who’s is better, theirs or Vitamias’ since both are phenomenal. Without a doubt their meatballs are untouchable. Seriously they are amazing, juicy, fluffy perfection in the form of a ball. It’s the standard From which all meatballs are graded on! The prices are expensive little pricey, but not as highs as vitamias. They have a superb selection of homemade sauces and prepared foods such as lasagna. For high quality Italian food products come to Latonas. My recommendation to all who never tried Latonas or Vitamia which is down the street is to try both as both are of extreme high quality but they both also have their very own style look feel and taste.
