I’ll keep it brief. No jerk chicken or rice and peas during lunch hour. $ 15 for brown stewed chicken, white rice, and some lettuce 25 min wait with only 2 people in line before me. This is my first and last time patronizing this establishment.

Bland. Truly bland, maybe I came on a bad day. Cabbage tasted old, like maybe it was sauteed in some stale oil. I’ve been up since 2 am, believe me if i had more strength in my body i would take it back

This is definitely a eatery you want to experience. Especially if you like Caribbean food. I ordered the Brown Stew Chicken and rice and Peas. When I tell you it was delicious that is just what I mean! It wasn’t greasy tasting or over seasoned. I’m a foodie so I’m very particular about how my food is prepared and presented. The presentation was excellent and it was plenty of food for two adults to eat from. My boyfriend and I were very pleased with this hidden treasure. The owner or employees were very approachable and friendly. It is a small establishment but it’s comfortable and warm feeling. Take my word for this is a must try.

Decent. Island Reggae Kitchen would be my go to spot, if there weren’t many other options in the area. I came and ordered the Jerk chicken plate, the chicken had a good flavor, but it was a bit dry. The plate also came with veggies(which were good), plantains, festival bread, and peas and rice. All were good except the peas and rice… very bland. Tried it, wasn’t too impressed… this is my last visit. Also, the dudes in the back were not the friendliest.

I had the veggie plate. I was impressed that they had rice and peas made with brown rice. The callaloo was very well seasoned. The ginger beer was quite delicious also. Everything tasted very fresh. I will definitely return when in the area.

I want to give this place a better review but I just keep getting disappointed. Having a Jamaican background and eating home cooked Jamaican food quite frequently, the items I tried here were a disappointment. The jerk chicken does not taste like Jerk chicken. It was a little spicy, but not jerk spicy. And the sauce, quite frankly, is just regular BBQ sauce. I’ve gotten it twice since I’ve been and every time it’s the same. As far as the sides, the rice and peas are okay and the plantains were good. I had a pattie and it was good. Could have had more meat in it; seemed mostly dough. The workers are nice. Reserved and quiet, but nice. Restaurant looks clean, I would eat inside. Not sure i’ve given up completely on this place. I need to try different things first.

First time eating Jamaican food– damn good! Island Reggae Kitchen is unassuming and tucked away in a small shopping plaza just off Crenshaw Blvd. There are only 4 – 5 small tables, so dining in might be a challenge during peak hours. Lots of memorabilia decorating the walls and a small plasma television for your viewing pleasure. Reggae music was playing on the sound system. Alright, let’s talk about the food. Since this was my first time eating Jamaican food, I don’t have much of a comparison base. However, I will say that it was DELICIOUS, for lack of a better adjective. GINGERWATERMELONJUICE: You’re going to want one of these. Sweet, but not to sweet. It tastes great AND quenches your thirst. Go easy on the ice if you want to enjoy more. BEEFPIE: Not sure if this is the correct name, but its what it most closely resembles. Think of a hybrid between a taco and a cheeseburger. Great snack to munch on while waiting for your entrée. Wish I would have gotten a couple more. JERKCHICKEN: Why can’t all chicken taste this good? Perfectly cooked, seasoned, and served. A little chewy at times, but very tender overall. Note the sizes– mini, small, large(no medium). I ordered the small portion, but it felt like a large by most dining standards. Prices are competitive, but not cheap. One ginger watermelon juice, one beef pie, and two jerk chicken entrees came out to $ 27. Totally worth it in my opinion. PRO-TIP: Check out the $ 6.50 lunch special served Monday-Friday.

I work down the street. I stopped in to get some lunch for a coworker and myself. I had the jerk chicken lunch special. It was very good. I was a little nervous because the jerk that I had in Jamaica made my lips burn for hours but this was perfect. Spicy but not overdone. My coworker raved about the plantains for the rest of the day. Overall it was amazing… I would recommend this place to everyone.

The previous business also served Jamaican cuisine but under a different name and owner. The new owner continues the tradition with excellent food. If you’re new and eat beef, try the famous oxtail. Oxtail is the name for the tail of cattle(steers or heifers), and the beef is extremely tender and flavorful. The service is excellent! Andre helped me — and NOTE: he is from Jamaica so knows his food. The place is very very small, so it’s probably best to order to-go and eat at home or the park. Prices are very reasonable.
