Very cute coffee shop with a great atmosphere and good coffee. It is located in the entrance of a neighborhood and the first thing I noticed when I got out of the car was how quiet it was outside. It’s a nice get away spot from all the business on the island. I ordered the hazelnut frappé and it was reasonably priced, and tasted great.

2.5 stars. In my experience, there is definitely better to be had on the island, although it’s not a bad place by any means. The setup itself is very nice… the shop is nestled in a neighborhood way on the West end of the island. I’ve had the iced coffee, a chai latte, and a smoothie and none of them really struck a chord with me. The chai and the smoothie seemed overly sweet. Inside there’s a decent amount of seating, given its size. I think there’s some outdoor seating too, which would be pleasant on a nice day. In the few times that I’ve been there, I thought the music was a bit loud for studying. It doesn’t seem to get as crowded as Mod’s on the east side, which is a plus, and their WiFi was reliable. Maybe it’s just personal taste, but I always leave feeling a little«meh»

Really nice coffee shop, it is like a gem you do not expect to find some steps from the beach. The place is quite cozy and the vibe is really nice and friendly. I got a Green Tea Frappé, and it was truly delicious! Definitely coming back.

Awesome coffee place to study. Super cute and colorful! It’s a little out there, but the area around the shop is so pretty. Not as loud as MOD or Starbucks, but there seems to be more people in the morning vs. the afternoon. It’s a bit small, but there are place to sit outside and wifi reaches out there too. Drinks are pretty good. Has interesting flavors. Offers not only coffee, but also smoothies or chai’s. Definitely recommend it to people who wants to study at a nice coffee shop!

Great environment and very good coffee. They had some nice pumpkin bread as well. Prices are reasonable. A little off the beaten path, but that’s not a bad thing. Cute, quiet and definitely not trying to be like Starbucks.

Great coffee drinks! The store is cute, bright and very welcoming. Great place to cool off after a hot day at Moody Gardens… pick me ups for parents and yummy smoothies for the kiddos. The barista on our visit was so helpful with recommendations. Definitely check this place out when you’re in the area. We will be back when we’re in Galveston!

This is a great coffee shop! It’s bright and quiet unlike Starbucks and other coffee shops on the island. My friends and I came here a few times before tests to study, and there’s a side room where we could all sit, have drinks, and spread all our books and notes out. The shop is right in the entrance to the Evia neighborhood, and across from the golf course.

really, would not go back. the people were kinda rude. it was really just uncomfortable in there. awkward. the coffee no doubt was good-but nothing to write home about. and the price-outrageous. more expensive than starbucks. Mods is way better if you are going to get coffee in Galveston. oh yah and 5 dollar minimum for your card-that is what knocked it down from 2 stars to 1? Hey I want a coffee, in a hurry this morning, sorry I didn’t have time to get CASH for you. of course if you get a latte your going to hit that 5.00 minimum but anything else. I mean what kind of place sells beverages and has a 5.00 minimum psssh. plus they have like nothing to eat with your coffee. just cookies and maybe a muffin-wouldn’t always count on it. I doubt this place last too much longer.

You cannot beat the ideal location and ambiance… Sugar Bean is the perfect compliment to the beautiful setting in Evia! It is convenient for anyone because it is right in the middle of the island! Great coffee… try the Texas Pecan or any of the espresso drinks. Grab a coffee and walk around the neighborhood or grab a table and use the free wifi! Friendly baristas, charming atmosphere and a perfect Galveston gem!

Loved the coffee. I got an iced sticky bun. Very good. :) The area is SO cute. A very small and adorable beach community. It’s nice and quiet. While I was there, quite a few people were inside using laptops etc. There is free wifi. Great time overall, I will be back. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.

I’m giving this place 5 stars because of the atmosphere and charm. I had an iced coffee it was great and I’ve had the house brew and it was good too. I didn’t care for the muffins and I wish they offered a better selection of baked goods but the relaxation factor is 5. Evia is my favorite area of the island.

Definitely a hidden gem in Galveston. I’ve been here twice now.(I live near Houston and try to come when I go to the beach). First time coming, I tried the sticky bun latte and recently tried the trail mix latte. Both are good and just a little different from your typical Starbucks. I would add more stars if they had more foods to try from. Cookies, bread, sugary treats, etc. Also to add more flavors for the lattes. Otherwise, it’s a really cute place to check out. Will be back soon!

I’m a new fan of Sugar Bean. Not only is this coffee shop absolutely adorable, it is located in an equally adorable neighborhood. The interior is very beachy and has so much sunlight. They have great coffee, free wifi, and a good amount of space to study. Sugar Bean is definitely one of Galveston’s hidden gems!

3.5 stars. Cute little coffee shop in the Evia neighborhood on the west end of the island. Definitely OFF the beaten path. Have come here a few times when I’m looking to do some quiet studying as Mods/Starbucks are not the place to go for that. When you arrive, it almost feels like you’re in Pleasantville(reference the 1998 movie with Reese Witherspoon!) It’s always been pretty empty when I’ve gone. This is great for studying, however I actually have wondered how they survive as there has never been more than a couple of other people there. Adorable atmosphere. Drinks are okay, definitely not the best. Got got the sticky bun latte today – definitely did not taste like I was think it would based on the description. Barista didn’t seem to know much about the various drinks or different types of coffee. Also, they require a $ 5 minimum if you want to pay with credit card unfortunately. Definitely difficult for me as I rarely carry cash! Also, they have very limited hours – only open till 7PM daily. Would definitely probably come here more if they were open later in the evenings. Regardless, I will probably still frequent this place when I’m looking for a quiet place to study or read a book! Pros: cute ambience, quiet, free wifi Cons: far from everything, credit card minimum, not the best drinks, extremely limited hours, no real food(just muffins/gelato)

I have to admit, when I was living in Galveston, I wanted to keep this place a secret because I didn’t want it to get crowded. The first time I was taken here, I felt like I was going to an alternate reality that was not Galveston. This coffeeshop on the West end of the island is tucked away in the Evia subdivision. As you drive in, the houses become too colorful, and the grass is too green(think Stepford wives). In the back, there is an artificial lake with a bridge and a gazebo with swings( ). Park along the street or there is a small parking lot in the back that is never full.( ) With that said, I love this place! A great place to enjoy a cup of coffee /latte and be productive. They have free wifi with plenty of seating. The inside is very comfortable(feels like a house that is basically converted into a coffeeshop). The atmosphere is also very quiet so that you can read /study /enjoy a conversation. My favorite area was in the back room with a view overlooking the lake. The lattes are good — I usually go with the iced latte.( ) When I had visitors, I would usually them here and they always loved it — they also sell smoothies, gelato, tea, bottled drinks, and sometimes food options from Mosquito café. I have had the gelato, and it was good — perhaps the other reviewer had an off batch. Smoothies are also pretty good here. Overall, a great coffeeshop, especially if you live in the West end, or you want to go somewhere else besides Mod, Saxby’s, or Starbucks. The only cons are that it can be a bit pricey(a large latte was close to $ 5), and they close relatively early — I think around 7 pm.
