I have had Katelynn cut my hair and do my wax. She is great! I have long, thick hair and she understood exactly what I wanted her to do with it. I had a good experience and they have good prices. I will be going back.

Katelyn has been cutting my grandsons hair since he was 6. Nine years later she still does a beautiful job! I highly recommend her for quick stylish styles!

I recently moved to Galveston, so I was looking for a regular stylist. I came in as a walk-​in and had no wait, which was great. I can’t remember the name of my stylist, but I didn’t get the greatest impression. She didn’t greet me, said, «come on» and led to the chair, and asked a few questions. To every response, she snapped back with an attitude and was very short. She was extremely rough when washing my hair. I have extremely long, thick hair and can take a lot of pull and pressure, but this was something else. She actually wrung my complete head of hair a couple times, and it did not feel good. The cut and blow dry was pretty quick, no biggie. The price was awesome, but I don’t think I will be returning to Island Hair Retreat. I’m pretty chill when it comes to my hair, but this was not a relaxing trip to the salon.

There was a comment posted recently about Island Hair Retreat. The female that posted the comment should not have been allowed to post the comment. She was rude to the staff upon entering the business, used vulgar language towards the staff, and was politely declined service and asked to leave. It is her own fault that she did not receive a haircut. Maybe she should treat people with more respect.

I have been using Island Hair Retreat for years. My wife uses them also. We both get great service, very fair pricing and the quality of hair cuts for my wife and I are the best. I really encourage you to use the company. They are the best on the island.

Katelyn did the most incredible job on my cut and color. I now have a new hair salon and stylist. My new shorter haircut was even husband approved! And you know how hard it is to get your guy to like short hair. Thanks Katelyn!

I have long hair down the middle of my back. No layers. All I needed was a trim. Just 1 inch. The lady who cut my hair took an inch off. Then realized she couldn’t cut a straight line. So more and more came off. Probably 2 or 3 inches came off. When I got home I dried and straightened it. It was choppy, un even, and there was a strip of hair 2 inches longer than the rest! Ridiculous. Don’t go here. Spend the extra money and go to a salon where they know how to cut at least a straight line. Also, her hands smelled like cigarettes.

Kibbs is awesome! I was unhappy with the haircut I recently received, and I came to Island Hair Retreat hoping they’d be able to fix it. Kibbs asked lots of questions about what I wanted, which I really appreciated, and she kept checking as she cut and thinned my layers to make sure I liked how she was styling it.
The salon is walk-​in only but I didn’t have to wait long. Prices are very reasonable and they do offer a student discount!

Great staff and service. Reasonable prices and it’s in a great location. Walk ins only but I’ve hardly ever had to wait that long. I’m very picky about hair salons and I recommend this place to everyone. Color, highlights, cuts, they do it all!

I went to the salon twice once I got a trim from Kim (who is no longer there) it was satisfactory. Not the best but not the worst I have gotten but, Kim had a great personality and seemed to enjoy her job. The second time I went back I decided to wait for the owner. shouldn’t have wasted the ten minutes! I felt she hurried and didn’t pay attention to me, which explains the shoddy cut! Thankfully I am a retired stylist so I could fix some of the areas which she didn’t even cut. Funny thing is while she was cutting my hair she commented that regardless who does the cut it is her name also associated with the cut since she is the owner I find it ironic she gave me the worse of the two cuts. Won’t be returning I could do better myself!

I needed a haircut in the worst way and after reading the reviews here, I decided to give Island Hair Retreat a try. I was very pleasantly surprised. I got one of the best haircuts I’ve received in a looong time. The service was excellent, there was no waiting, and the prices can’t be beat. I’m guilty of spending upwards of $ 200 on a haircut… not anymore! Thank you Island Hair Retreat!

I came in for a brow wax and my stylist was SUPER quick and it was only $ 7. They only take walk-​ins so you might have to wait a few minutes so make sure you set aside some time for that too.
Once my appointment started, I was in and out of the chair within 3 minutes. They also look super clean and and she did them exactly how I wanted them. This will be my designated brow wax place from now on!

I recently moved to Galveston, and after researching hair salons on line, I decided to go to this one. The salon was clean and nice when I walked in, as they do not take appointments (red flag #1), and was greeted by the girl who did my hair. She asked what i wanted, which was a partial root touch up of highlights. She began putting the bleach on my hair, and proceeded to only foil the very top portion of my hair. A partial foil should be at least the top HALF of the head. I didn’t say anything thinking I made a mistake of what I saw. She left out a large part of my hair on top that she did not bleach or foil. So it was untouched with color. I sat under the heated dryer for 30 mins. and we washed out the color. As she takes the towel off, I KNOW this is not what I wanted. She dried my hair and straightened it and said that it looked a lot better. I looked at it and it was as if I never even walked into the salon and got my roots touched up. I was floored that she thought this was better than what I walked in with. I paid the $ 70 I was charged and vowed to never go there again. After talking with some locals about my experience, they laughed and told me I got screwed and not to go there for hair because you will hate your experience. Next time I’ll spend the $ 150 I’m used to and get what I want. Lesson learned!

I just got home from Island Hair Retreat and I am unsatisfied with the service I received. The cut itself is fine; it was a trim on long hair, so it was simple enough. The problem is that the stylist, Jessica, didn’t say more than two words the entire cut and didn’t smile once. If she would have talked to me she would have found out that I am really in need of all new hair products: curl setter, straightening serum, and hairspray. When she finished the trim she didn’t use a simple drop of product and just started drying. Half way through the dry she stated «the more I dry the more it frizzes. Should I keep going?» I told her no and left the salon with half wet hair, no product and plenty of disappointment.

I moved back to Galveston a little over two years ago and was lucky enough to find Katelyn pretty soon thereafter. Let me tell you, not only can she cut my hair hair exactly the way I like it and never makes me feel rushed, but she has the quintessential hairdresser attitude which is friendly, upbeat, and always positive. I feel right at home at Island Hair Retreat where any one of the staff will offer you a drink with a smile as soon as you walk in the door. And although Katelyn is the one who usually cuts my hair, whenever one of the other girls had to step up they did just as good of a job. You’re in good hands with anyone there. I highly recommend Island Hair Retreat to everyone!

My 2 year old son and I both get our hair cut here regularly. The staff is always super helpful, very pleasant and prompt, and do a great job! They are wonderful with my son, always keep him engaged and he loves the lollipop he gets at the end! The facility is super clean and prices are reasonable. I have always been very pleased with out experiences!
