Front desk person was asleep.
Room wasn’t ready.
Switched to a different room.
Charged for the wrong room.
My family and I were looking forward to our stay in Galveston, TX very much. We are from Maine and were in Texas for my brother’s wedding. We decided to drive from San Antonio to Galveston to stay the night before our flight left from Houston the next morning. We chose Baymont, out of several in the area, because it was close to Seawall Blvd, and we’d be able to visit the beach before we left (Our first time seeing the Gulf of Mexico!).
After an eventful day with family we left San Antonio and arrived in Galveston at about 2:30 am. Usually hotels can remain accommodating for check-​ins any time of day. When I arrived with my wife, six year old son and 8 month old daughter, ready to get to bed after a 3.5 hour drive, we found the front desk person was sleeping in a little room behind the front desk. After multiple bell– rings and shouting, «Hello», «Excuse me»… she wouldn’t wake up. She only woke up after I went around and knocked on the «Employee’s Only» door. She woke up, apologized, checked us in, and we were on our way upstairs.
The TV was blaring and could be heard through the door, so I knocked. Nothing. I slid the key, opened the door and shouted, «Hello?». Fortunately, by then, Goldilocks had left. The TV was playing Family Guy, which is not appropriate for my six year old to walk in on. While I was turning off the TV my wife noticed that the bed was messed up. At best it was not made properly, but it appeared that someone had been sleeping on it. I called to the front desk about it, and she brought up a key to another room. We turned in for the night not caring to request another room with a king sized bed and sleeper sofa like we had requested. Instead she put us into a room with two queen sized beds. We made due, but noted that the room we were given was cheaper than the one we originally requested. This change was not accounted for on the receipt that was slid under our door in the morning.
I recounted our adventure to the front desk person I met in the morning, who relayed it to the manager, and they credited us the difference between the rooms. Frankly I was hoping for a bit more of a good faith gesture rather than a $ 10 discount and a «I’ll speak with her.» from the manager.
Not pleased with the Baymont Inn. We’ll probably steer clear of Wyndham hotels in the future.

Reasonably priced and decent décor in the room. The lobby and first floor smelled strong of mildew and they had just cleaned the elevator when we walked in. Strong bleach /​cleaner smell and being closed in a small space wasn’t pleasant.
The painting on the door was half finished. Not a huge deal breaker but a small fix that would improve the rooms appearance.
The ac was hard to work and hardly worked. On and off all night in 5 min intervals.
Stayed in a room with two queen beds. Only three pillows per bed. Called the front desk for two more pillows and were told we could only have one more.
Probably would not return to this hotel.

In error, made a reservation for the night after we actually arrived. The Shift Manager and the Clerk were very gracious and accommodating, although the rate I booked was significantly lower than the rate I paid due to us arriving on a Saturday night. I was pretty embarrassed but they took care of switching my reservation to the correct night quickly and without a fuss. The room was tastefully decorated and well appointed with a microwave and fridge. We loved having two King beds in one room; it was super comfortable for us. Thankfully we brought our Keurig because the coffee maker is kept in the bathroom which I find disgusting. The bathroom, however, left a lot to be desired. The floor under the vanity was gross. It looked like it had not been cleaned in a while. There was a rust spot on the tub by the wall that could easily be covered up with white caulk. Whoever did the paint job was sloppy, getting it all on the side of the mirror. The room smelled extremely musty and was quite unpleasant. We picked up a can of Febreeze while we were out because the deodorizer we got from the desk didn’t work very well. The Clerk admitted it was musty when standing at our door and said the rooms in our area didn’t get rented often, so they keep the a/​c set so they don’t run. I think it’s a terrible idea considering it’s Galveston. If it weren’t for the room being so musty I would have given it a 5 star rating. We would stay here again.

Staff are polite, kind and knowledgeable, location is great and the room is clean. I also felt comfortable leaving my car parked in the quiet nearby parking lot. Would definitely stay here again for a quick weekend getaway to Galveston.

It was okay, and fairly nice. Would have given it maybe 4 stars if it hadn’t had been for the leak in bathroom. We arrived and my wife had to go to the bathroom, we found out after the fact that there was crappy water dripping from the vent above the toilet onto our toilet seat as well as the floor. When I mentioned it to the front desk that it was leaking from the toilet on the third floor onto our toilet, all I got was «that is nasty sir, we will get the maintenance man to look into it». THAT’S IT! No we’re sorry would you like a complementary «something «or we’ll take some off your bill or we’ll refund some of your money for the inconvenience. That’s a health violation and fourtantly I took some pictures

Place was ok but a few things made me deduct a star. The bedsheets were bright white so it was easy to spot a hair in one of the beds. Later in the evening, I saw something crawling on the edge of the bed. Hubby looked closer & said it was a small roach. The biggest turn off was seeing the coffee machine in the restroom. Yes, you read that correctly… THE COFFEE MACHINE IS KEPT IN THE BATHROOM! EWW! I suppose one could easily move it but the thought of nasty particles floating in the air & eventually landing on the brewer makes me cringe.
Only positive comment I have is regarding my only interaction with a staff member. Front desk clerk was very friendly & helpful as I checked in (held the door as I wheeled in the luggage cart). That was another downside of staying at this place… no automatic entrance doors so it’s quite a struggle to try to keep the door open by yourself as you maneuver a stroller or luggage cart through the door because the door only opens up so far.
We skipped the free breakfast due to a time constraint but the hubby tried the coffee & he said it was gross so he did not finish it. We probably wouldn’t come back.

They messed up my booking and i had to throw a fit but they fixed it. The ocean view rooms are awesome. Just perfect!!!

Pros: The hotel is located on seawall blvd, staff is friendly and attentive, hotel is clean, ok area, very good price.
Cons: More of a Motel feel than Hotel in my opinion, you can hear EVERYTHING, alarm clock doesn’t work (not that big of a deal).
Would I stay here again? If it’s just for just a night, probably. I would not stay here more than one night. If you wanted to stay in Galveston longer, I’d say go to a different hotel.

As I walked into the room I was slapped in the face with this damp, musty aroma. It was like when it rains and your window was cracked then the wet seat just sat in the sun for a few days. Seriously, every time I left the room and came back in I was like this is terrible. On top of that we kept finding hairs everywhere. In the bathroom, on the counter, IN THE BED! The fitness center was just enough obligatory equipment so they could technically list it as an amenity, I’ve seen better equipment laying out by the curb. But the continental breakfast has Texas shaped waffles so I guess that’s a plus.

Great place to stay. Been here twice and rooms were very clean both times. Beds are soft and comfortable. The breakfast wasn’t anything special but it’s free so you really can’t complain. Only real complaints are that the outside light on the balcony doesn’t turn off and you can’t pull the drapes because the track doesn’t go all the way across and there really aren’t that many channels to watch if you get stuck inside on a rainy day. Overall, I recommend it both for the quality and price.

We arrived for check-​in at 4p. They had already given away our room! We needed a room with a roll-​in shower to accomodate a wheelchair. We booked the hotel a week in advance. Their response was «sorry, corporate over-​booked». I asked to speak to the manager — nope. We asked what they would do to correct this — nothing. HORRIBLE front-​desk staff. Beach out front was closed due to the mounds of stinky seaweed rotting along the shore. Ended up being a blessing we didnt stay there. Could not believe how RUDE and unaccomodating they were. Their supposed «accessible» rooms are NOT ADA compliant — no shower handle, no shower chairs — no shower wand, only a «wide door». If you or anyone you love ever require wheelchair accomodations and have been descriminated against — please do not support this hotel.

The hotel was just fine as were the employees besides one in particular. The lady who I assume to be from India at the front desk was extremely rude to me. I didn’t catch her name unfortunately because I was so taken off guard with her terrible attitude & customer service. All the other staff was great though very very friendly. But she needs to be fired seriously. Good luck if you run into her!

It is what it is. A place to stay for the night and move on. If you intend to stay awhile, do something better. The room AC was on high when we arrived and that was much appreciated with the 102 degree weather. The room is worn but the sheets and towels were clean. Don’t splurge on a Gulf-​view balcony as I did. I was on the 2^nd floor and your are set back from the beach, so it really doesn’t matter. Maybe the 3^rd floor is better. We didn’t eat the breakfast there, but I saw a big line for the bagels as I walked to Starbucks. The room smelled a little at first and the hall does smell of mildew. $ 100.00 was too much for this room, but I shudder to think of what lesser-​valued rooms would be like.

The room was fine. The ladies at the check in desk were very friendly and talked to our little girl sweetly. The room was fine. The bed was clean and made. Nothing special. I was disappointed in the breakfast buffet. Nothing was hot, no protein all grains and sweets. The coffee was fine, nothing special.

worst of the worst. bad mildew problem. management trying to cover it up with carpet cleaner. nauseating. dirty rooms and sheets. just a nasty place … typical plastic wrapped breakfast items on 100% styrofoam.

Upon arrival at the hotel, 8÷2÷09, several issues with the management became apparent. Immediately, we were overcome with the smell of mold. As we entered our room, we were overcome by the very strong scent of lavender being used to cover up the mold. After 3 minutes in the room, it was agreed that we could not spend one night in this room without becoming ill.
They agreed to move us to the 2^nd floor IF we paid additional charges of $ 20 + tax per night resulting in an increase of $ 69.00. I agreed and used a debit card. I was told it was declined. We provided a credit card and that was accepted. However, when my husband called the bank to find out what the problem was with our bank account, he was told the charge went through just fine and the $ 69 had been debited from the account. Again, we were back at the front desk requesting a credit of $ 69 which we did eventually receive.
At 3:22 a.m. my husband and I were abruptly awakened by loud, screeching noises that sounded like they were coming from the walls and continued consistently, without stopping. I went to the front desk area, directly below our room, just before 4:00 a.m. where I could still hear the noise, however, at a muffled level. The front desk clerk insisted there was no noise. I insisted that the clerk visit my room to listen. She did so and only then agreed that it was loud and disruptive, but had no solutions other than to put us back in one of the moldy rooms.
The Assistant Manager who checked us out said, «Good luck getting your money back from Expedia.» I said, «Do you not like Expedia? Are they rude?» She replied, «No, I’m rude to them. I don’t like them.»
After 5 phone calls to Expedia in which the Expedia representatives are repeatedly told differing stories including that they can only call between 10 am and 11 am with me on the phone if I want my money back, I have filed a dispute with the credit card company to get the refund for the 2 nights we had to check into another hotel. I have come to the conclusion that the Baymont’s management plays games such as providing only king-​size beds on the first floor so that guests must endure the mold or upgrade to a new room, say that charges have been declined when they haven’t, slow-​tracking refunds so much that customers give up on ever receiving their money back. I haven’t encountered a more dishonest business in the state (or out) which is unfortunate because Galveston really needs the tourism.

It wasn’t so bad when our reservations were not to be found in the system, because we had our confirmation number and they had rooms… no problem. It was a major irritatation when our hotel room door failed to electronically open since the batteries died in the door unit, and we couldn’t get into the room to save our lives until the manager or his lackey came to reprogram the door and replace the battery – but they were extremely apologetic and sincere. The final straw really was the big cockroach in the bathroom, which couldn’t make up for all the Texas shaped waffle pancakes and tepid hot tub water in the world.
