Great place! Even though the reviews were poor I have it a chance since it was the only fine dinning place in town. My first time to town and this place made an amazing dish. They had some of the best asparagus I have ever had! In fact I order two plates! The catfish came out piping hot and I could tell they just cooked it. It was very delicious. If this place a shot, you won’t be disappointed!!!

To begin kindly, the woman tending bar had been generally polite toward me in the past, calling me «honey» and such. Tonight, I took a friend, a local business owner, for a martini. Our martinis were poorly made, and stopped about two inches from the rim, but we did not argue. I ordered water, water was never offered to my company, so eventually she asked. The woman tending bar would wait a few seconds after each request for service with an «ok» and minutes would pass before anything would be received. We were the only people at the bar. By the time we left, the woman was so bothered and aggressive that we could only smile in silence while she had us pay. For an establishment that appears classy and respectable, we were uncomfortable when the server lugged the credit card machine to our hands and guided us each through the screens and options, waiting for us to add a tip. I tipped her, my company did not, and that earned my respect. As we walked out, we noticed to our left that a regular was enjoying a full pour martini. Must be nice. Overpriced. Poor service.

This place has gone down hill… And it’s been going down hill for some time now. There are a lot of staff changes and high turn over of cooks. Which leads to inconsistency. It’s tough being a restaurant and even hard to do so in Galesburg. I get it. I just have fonder memories of Chez Willy when I first got to the Burg. I hope things get better and improve.

Came here for lunch with my boyfriend– we weren’t impressed. His soup was ok, but my salad was literally a half-head of lettuce with some stuff sprinkled on top. The cook had literally split a head of lettuce and didn’t bother to cut it up and mix it with the toppings. Our main courses weren’t anything spectacular, as the prices suggested. Not worth it.

Rude waitress. Seemed annoyed we didn’t have a big order. Super slow service. Took forever just for soup. Would never come back again.

Ordered soup and took 20mins to receive. The waitress was rude when ordering. Seemed like she was upset I only ordered soup and had a water… Just very unpleasant.

Great food. The only thing is don’t expect to be out of there in an hour. It is the whole experience of being with friends and family, enjoying time to spend together and eating great foods.

Ummm, no. Overpriced food, small portions. The handful of food I did get was good. Way too pricey.

Maybe it’s because it was –33 ℉ outside, but there wasn’t a soul in this place when I went to a solo birthday dinner on Wednesday. I made a reservation the night before online, and got an email confirmation, but the waitstaff didn’t seem to know I was coming. I digress. I ordered the 12oz. Filet Mignon with Bernaise sauce and potato straws(?). Steak had a decent flavor but could’ve used more pepper. The potatoes(which ended up being hand cut Fries) were sub par. Overcooked, greasy, and completely unseasoned. The waitress looked appalled when I asked for a dipping sauce to choke them down. For dessert I ordered Crème Brulee. The top was super thick I was hard to cut through with a spoon. Good flavor though. Total cost for steak, fries, desert and water: $ 50 not including tip. Not sure if I’d go again.

I didn’t come away from Chez Willy’s with. any sort of opinion. The menu is eclectic, but not in a good way– in a middle of the road, family restaurant kind of way. Escargot, hummus, pizza, and pad thai? There’s something for everyone, and that’s not something that bodes well for a restaurant. The execution of the food confirms that suspicion, as it’s decidedly mediocre, and overpriced for the quality. Maybe it was an off day; we were seated towards the end of the lunch hour and the place was empty. Nonetheless, even if given the chance, I’d probably try a different spot first.

I have been eating here a lot lately and have yet to have a bad meal. The duck is tasty, the pork very good and filling, the fish specials are always spot on and their steak is really, really good. The only factors contributing to the minus one star is the kitchen seems consistently overwhelmed between 7 – 9. I have gone early and had perfectly timed meals but between those prime hours, the wait for your entrée can be up to an hour. I recommend leaving a lot of time and ordering a couple appetizers if you are really hungry. A way to placate their hungry diners who wait that long would be to offer gratuitious salads. I think paying for iceberg lettuce with my $ 30 meal is just greedy. But it would help fill in that hour long wait while you are looking longingly at your server every time she comes out of the kitchen bearing plates. Or hire another cook, that would work too.

This is the first time we visited Chez Willy’s. I would have to rate it a disappointment. While the staff is friendly, the interior of the restaurant is shabby but clean. The prices of the meals will curl your hair. $ 11 for a hamburger? $ 15 for pad Thai? None of the evening’s specials were under $ 22. The service was good, but the food came rather slowly. The salad was mesclun which is not a favorite of mine. The dressing was OK, but nothing special(mustard vinaigrette). Since we didn’t really see anything too exciting on the menu or the specials, we both decided to order the Chez Willy burger. It was not the gourmet treat I expected. I have had better burgers at fast food restaurants. The meat was unseasoned and tasteless. It was served with baked Yukon Gold potato slices in a bleu cheese sauce which were pretty good. I guarantee that we will not be returning. It’s just not worth it to go to this attempt at a Galesburg French-style restaurant.

Interesting to find a French restaurant in Galesburg. The restaurant is nice and the staff very friendly and accommodating, which is why I am giving at least two stars. I ordered the duck breast, that alone was well prepared, but unfortunately coated with black pepper and salty gravy that hid the flavor. It came with hash browns on the side that I would have expected from Denny’s. I had the tiramisu for desert, which wasn’t much better. It tasted more like cream cheese than mascarpone, and the wet cocoa powder gave away that it was not freshly prepared. A disappointing food experience overall.

not bad! i was pleasantly surprised with the food at chez willy’s. i have to admit i was a little put off by the name, but i guess it’s nice to have a sense of humor about yourself. i really do think they had a good menu even though i didn’t get to try too many things on it, we started with the mushroom medley appetizer, which was good, if a little salty. there were three different kinds of mushrooms in it and the flat ones were the best but far outnumbered. it was too heavy on regular mushrooms. the bread that came with the meal was great. nutty and warm and soft. i could see some people maybe thinking it’s too doughy, but that’s kind of how i like it so i didn’t mind. the boyf had the catfish which was very fried and very buttery. pretty good for cooked fish but not something i’d get again. he did say he thought they maybe relied too heavily on butter. i had the duck breast over polenta with goat cheese. when i ordered it, the waitress said that the chef recommends it medium rare and asked if that was okay. i like my duck breast medium rare but i had a feeling they were going to overcook it, so i told her a little rarer would be okay. she looked at me funny and asked, rarer? i felt kind of intimidated so i backed off and said okay medium rare was fine. well it came out and it was overcooked! medium at least. i should have stuck to my guns! anyway, the dish itself was still pretty good. the duck skin was crispy and the polenta was a little dry but the goat cheese was a nice touch. i still liked eating it. the worst part was that they were out of bread pudding and it was 6:30 in the evening! we must have been one of the first dinner customers but still got no bread pudding. sad. the atmosphere is nice but not stuffy. the hallway leading to the restrooms are covered in drawings and messages people have left on the paper tablecloths. so that was kind of sweet. the servers are good too and it makes for nice but casual dining.

Decent French style bistro food. The service was good but the food took some time to come out. We had the curry mussels which were exceptional and the salad was nice also. The chicken cutlets with ham, cheese and a red sauce on them was good, not thrilling but good. I’d probably go here again.

It’s good. I had never been to Chez Willy’s until my senior year when I finally realized that I should be milking my parents for things because soon I was going to graduate from college and couldn’t eat at finer establishments. That said, my mother loved it so much that she scheduled my after graduation meal here. When I brought my dad, he said«Why have we never been here before? We should have been going here since your freshman year!»(Obviously, I had been milking the wrong parent.) The food is good for Galesburg and it is pretty tasty in general. They have had some really great desserts and the people are pretty friendly. However, it is more expensive than I would like it to be, which, again, is why I didn’t try it until my senior year. But I wouldn’t say no if someone said they were taking me there. It’s a great place to celebrate something special and they are very accommodating in helping your party enjoy your meal.

Besides the packinghouse, this is one of the most expensive places in town. The key selling point of chez willys is the wine selection. I used to enjoy the calamari, but i’ve been told that the quality has gone down over the past few years.

This is barely a 4 star rating. It’s more like 3 ½ but i gave it four because of the atmosphere and the desserts. This is considered the best restaurant in Galesburg but I would have to agree with hesitation(I’m a huge fan of the Apple Bee’s in town). I think the food was overrated but the service is fantastic. The servers would always come by asking if we needed anything. The atmosphere was quite romantic with dimmed lights and candles by the table. The food was not bad but what I enjoyed most was the crème brûlée. It is one of the best I have ever had. They also have many other delicious desserts that involve a fire show o0. Overall, I’d come back for the desserts.
