The worst. I was a patient a long time ago. I am still dealing with the fallout from his substandard work – several root canals that needed retreats, crowns that fell out. His bedside manner was abysmal. THE ABSOLUTE WORST in my whole dental history.

I wish I had seen these reviews before coming to this office! First I should say that the hygienists for both cleanings were fine. Sometimes, they were basically on time. Sometimes, I had to wait 30 minutes (not ok!). I really began to get fed up when I’d try to make an appointment for some time in the next month, any time after 2:30pm. The response was often «We’re full in December and January, but we have times in mid-​February.» The office is small, cramped, outdated, and not pleasant to visit.
What really, really earns this place less than one star is Dr. Dubin. The first time I went in for a cleaning, he didn’t introduce himself or say hello before he stuck his hands in my mouth. He actually didn’t talk to me at all, just spoke to the hygienist, said I was fine to go, and left. Because I’ve moved around, gotten a new job, and had changes of insurance, I’ve had a number of dentists over the years, but never have I had one that didn’t speak to his patients!
Then came the worst dental experience I’ve had yet. I had three small cavities that needed to be filled (two were so small, mind you, they had to double check that they weren’t stains). Dr. Dubin called me back, sat me in the chair, put the bib on, then handed me the summary of charges and said, «Sign this.» The bill was over $ 600 for three SMALL cavities! I asked why it was so much and his response was, «Well, we can let the cavities get bigger.» That does not answer my question and is, again, rude and dismissive. But I’m a nervous person and felt pressured since I was already in the chair and he didn’t seem willing to offer more explanation than he did. Then he went to numb me w/​the shot, JIGGLING the needle in my gums, and I crinkled my brow in pain. It hurt so bad, it actually made my eyes tear up. When he noticed, his response was, «You must have a low threshold for pain.» Sorry, that’s not the case. I actually have a very reasonable pain threshold, and I’m not sure who would enjoy having a needle jiggled in their gums. Also again, a rude and dismissive comment from him, making clear that the pain was my fault, not his.
The first two fillings took under a minute to fill, each.
The last filling was deeper than it looked – I assumed the price would go up, but the doctor never said this. When I got to the front, the receptionists told me it was going to be more. My total for three small cavities came out to $ 702. When I asked again why so much, the receptionist said that my insurance doesn’t cover composite resin on the back teeth. She then took my card and swiped it. As I was signing, she said, ‘Let me clarify. Your insurance only covers the amalgam for the back molars where your cavities were. Those are only $ 10. But we don’t really use those because we find that the metal contracts with heat and cold and leads to more tooth damage, unless someone really insists that they want them.” So after taking my money, they then clarified that rather than the $ 702, I could have paid around $ 30. For less than 30 minutes of work, that man got $ 700. The best part is that afterwards my mouth HURT more than it hurt after having my wisdom teeth removed (while still awake).
I called the office to complain about my treatment afterwards, but the office manager/​receptionists are his wife and daughter so I don’t feel like serious concerns are going to go anywhere. Think very, very carefully before going to this office, and if you have another office to go to, I’d definitely take it.

Would not recommend this dental clinic. I arrived for my first appointment on time at 2:45 pm and 20 minutes later when I asked how much longer would I have to wait, I was told that my appointment is at 3:15 pm. The receptionist claims that she had called me earlier this week to confirm my appointment and changed the time with me! I still have the record of her voicemail saying that the appointment is at 2:45 pm just 2 days ago and I never even talked to her on the phone. When I asked for an explanation, she gave me two options:
1. Keep waiting;
2. Reschedule my appointment.
She did not apologize at all and I felt very unwelcome at this place.
I was finally called at 3:35 p.m., 50 minutes after I arrived. The hygienist seemed nice. But I now understand why people hate coming to the dentist so much. I could taste blood in my mouth for the whole day from my tooth cleaning. It was painful to have your gums picked at until they bleed.
It’s just not worth it. I’ve have much better experiences at dental clinics with tooth cleaning that was not painful or scary.

Have new dental insurance and selected Dr. Dubin. Once I received my dental insurance welcome paperwork with his name listed as our primary care dentist, I called and left a message on his office voice mail (last week) and never received a return call. Yesterday I called again and left a message and today I received a call back. I spoke with his receptionist and wanted to schedule an appointment in July once my insurance becomes active. She was curt and rude and told me to call back in July. A «customer service friendly practice» would have been eager to get me on the schedule. I tried being nice and she said it was «policy» not to schedule anyone until their insurance is active. Well Dr. Dubin, my policy is to give my business to folks who appreciate me and treat me nicely. Sorry we never got to me in person. I am sure you are nice. It’s your front line that needs to be nice.
PS Just switched to a new primary care dentist and have an appointment already scheduled. Your policy sucks.

I took my elderly mother in for a checkup with Dr Dubin, we got there a little early and I dropped her off at the office and went to run a few errands. I noticed that there was a red Jeep parked in the handicapped space (that I need for her) a car with signs on it for the dental practice parked right in front of the office, prime parking for clients. I came back half an hour later and my mom was in the waiting room. I was delighted until I found out that she had not seen Dr Dubin. I asked the receptionist if I made a mistake on the appointment time, she was aloof and told me that the doctor was running late. She went back to a chit chat with two younger kids in the office. I waited for Mom and found out that she needed a crown rebuilt and had several cavities. She paid over $ 1000 for a crown.
Dr Dubin gave her a temporary crown that fell off by 7PM that night.
I called my sister and asked her to take my mom in to have the crown fixed and see what she thought of Dr Dubin because I was not impressed. That crown fell off with in a few hours again. I made a few phone calls and got recommendations for a new dentist for my mom.

Every time I leave I know my teeth are well taken care of and examined. Including the crown he put in over 10 years ago. Still in place and still going strong.
After having him examine my teeth last month I feel confident that everything is ok. Especially since now I go in regularly.
The work is excellent and trustworthy. Furthermore, I don’t mind driving from Arlington to come here especially since everyone in the office is professional and take pride in their work.

I’m new to the DC area, and this was my first visit to Dr. Dubin. I was in so much pain it almost wouldn’t have mattered what they did to me, but can I say how delighted I was after my first visit! Since I was in pain, they treated me as an emergency and got me in the next day (I called late in the afternoon). His main goal was to get me out of pain and after my visit I can heartily say mission accomplished! I’ve never been to a dentist who cared more about my physical comfort and well being. He constantly asked if I was okay, if I was in any pain, and the tiniest hint of an ache was taken care of. When I left, I was feeling a LOT better, and that’s before the root canal! That’s just the first, get you out of pain, visit.
I went back for the first stage of the root canal and even though my tooth was a challenge (tricky to get to, plus I have a small mouth. Don’t laugh!) Dr. Dubin was gentle and thorough. I was never in pain. I’ve had fillings go a lot worse than this. Seriously. He’s intelligent, obviously very good at his job, and the rest of his office from the door to the chair are all very nice and concerned with making the experience as positive as possible. Both visits, I got a follow up phone call after I returned home from Dr. Dubin himself, just to make sure I was doing okay. I’ve NEVER had a dentist (or doctor for that matter) do that. Ever. I truly appreciated the concern, the follow up, going to that extra bit of effort to ensure I was doing well, the overall feeling of being in good hands.
Now that I have the permanent crown in place, I can certify that I’m 100% thrilled with the job they’ve done, with the care they exhibited, and with Dr. Dubin for going above and beyond the call of duty to call me after my procedure just to make sure all is well. I just don’t know where the negative reviews are coming from, because nothing like them was anything near my experience, nor, judging from others in the office, theirs either.
If you’re looking for a great dentist near Rockville, this is the place to go.

I went to Dr. Dubin February 26, 1996 to have a tooth capped. This is what I wrote in my dayplanner then: «My most excruciatingly awful, tortuous dental visit ever. After 6 shots of novacaine, I still felt him drilling.» He told me he couldn’t stop now, and continued to drill until he was done, having an assistent hold me down. He yelled at me to hold still, and asked if I was an alcoholic, since they were resistant to novacaine. When he was finally done, he told me, shortly, to go home and take some advil.
I had been through years of orthodontic and dental issues (palate split, 12 tooth extractions, 4 wisdom teeth removed, a dozen fillings…) and had NEVER been afraid of having my mouth worked on until Dr. Dubin. I’m writing now to explain to my current dental office why I’m cancelling my appointment AGAIN (I’ve been doing it for a couple years now).
When it happened I wrote to beg my insurance company to take him off their list of preferred providers. Now I’m writing here, I hope I can spare someone what I went (and still am going) through.

Worst dentist ever!!! Very rude and inept.

I sure don’t understand these negative reviews. Dr. Dubin has been my dentist for nearly 30 years. There was a time when he stopped taking my insurance and I tried several other dentists and was delighted when I could go back to him. At one stage in my life, I thought of myself as a professional dental patient because i had so much work done, and i am a good judge of dental competence and Dr. Dubin has it. Dr. Dubin does not hurt me and while I think he is gentle, I think the real reason is that he knows how to minimize the discomfort of dental work. Every crown and root canal he has ever done for me is still there.

I’ve been to Dr. Dubin a few times. The receptionist is unfriendly and will not even acknowledge your presence if you walk in until it’s convenient for her. I’ve been to see Dr. Dubin at least 4 times, and each time he has a different dental hygienist which leads me to believe that he’s hard to work with. After the hygienist completes the cleaning, he briefly looks over your teeth. Mostly, he is bragplaining (simultaneously bragging but complaining) about his Florida vacation home etc. His office is extremely outdated. I just switched my dental provider and am looking forward to the change!

My experience was similar to the first reviewer’s. Dr Dubin has a very big ego and is condescending to both patients and staff. I didn’t like the way he spoke to his dental hygienists and told him so. Also expensive. I switched to Dr. Glass, who is more pleasant, more professional, and has a nicer office with digital radiography.

I had a really bad experience with this dentist. Even if I came in with minor issues, he’d always suggest the most expensive procedures. He seemed to me like he was all about making money. His equipment/​facility is so outdated; I didn’t realize until I went to another dentist. He also walks around with a very condescending attitude, like he thinks he’s better than you or something. Also, if you search nearby dentists, you’ll see that his prices are much higher for the same procedures. I started going to him because that’s what my insurance company suggested but I switched to another dentist later on. Avoid this guy!
