As a child I remember being warned against food lion for some reason, I think something to do with rancid fish being bleached by the mongers. But after living on my own, I ventured into one of these in rockville and ever since, Food lion has been my grocery store of choice whenever possible. The produce is always very fresh and clean. The deli counter is always helpful and seems fully stocked. The bakery has a fair selection of every kind of roll or loaf one could ask for along with everything else. The prices also seem to be far better than those of giant or Safeway as well. I believe that is largely due to the unions. Safeway and Giant are both union stores and quite frankly I’ve never been a fan of unions. They promote laziness and seem to be too closely associated with the mafia. I mean think of education in this country. the NEA, is one of the largest and most powerful unions and lobbying firms in the country. Yet, since its inception, the quality of education in this country has gone from number 1 to somewhere just below Slovenia and Angola in both math and science. How is it possible that one of the most powerful and wealthy nations on earth can’t educate it’s children? Its’s the National Educators Association. What you have to remember is that the goal of the NEA is not to help our nation or even our students. It’s soul purpose is to increase pay and benefits for teachers. Every dollar the NEA fights for, and those are the dollars of the tax payers, are only ever sought after to line the checking accounts and 401Ks of teachers. Never is the NEAs goal to seek better text books or new technology in the classroom or to help the students or improve their education in any meaningful capacity. The NEA’s goal is in fact almost the opposite — often times they send their lawyers and lobbyists to divert funds allocated exclusively to and for students to further increase teacher’s salaries. These same teachers that attain tenure, making them almost immune from termination, based on performance of either their students under their guidance, or the teacher’s themselves. Instead union reps, protect bad, often incompetent teachers claiming tenure as an attribute worthy of higher pay and exclusion from pay cuts as if being a poor educator for a really, really long time means the only reasonable course of action is to continue it.

Trying to find the best supermarket in town? This probably isn’t it. They don’t have a pharmacy, meat dept, seafood department, and their seasonal department is minimal. Your not going to find that special cheese and if you need a pack of meat other than the basic chicken, pork, or steak… your probably out of luck. So why 5 stars? This place is ran really well. They have great prices and it’s it’s clean and organized. The employees are friendly and helpful. I come in here because it’s a great place to stop if I just need a couple of things and don’t feel like dealing with the hassle of the other area grocery stores. Honestly, you can probably do a while grocery shop here. I just tend to save the larger shops for places that have more specialty items.

I like this Food Lion quite a bit. Not just the low prices. But they manage to hire friendly employees. Makes a huge diff to get a genuine smile after waiting in line to pay. They have a wonderful produce selection with good prices. There’s an international section to satisfy my cravings for tamarind juice. They carry a huge amount of household cleaning supplies at low prices. Name brand detergent is generally the lowest price you’ll find. They have the hard-to-find Dawn Power Dissolver.

Walnut Hill Food Lion… I’ve stopped by this location several times recently to do some late night shopping. It’s a nice clean store and very friendly folks at the checkout… I always leave in a good mood(which is a good sign for me!). Produce & fresh fruit selection isn’t huge, but all the standard items are there and fresh. I do like Food Lions store’s layout, with the lower shelves and wider isles… feels open and makes for easier cart maneuvering.
