Tuffy Tire & Auto Service Center

Three times I have tried to get an oil change — WITH AN APPOINTMENT. I was told that it would be between 2 – 3 hours because all the bays were full. THREE TIMES! The man at the desk was very curt, snarky and rude as he told me that why would I expect to get in and out — after all, I don’t at a doctor, right? Um​.no. Respect.
Here is what really made me even angrier. An elderly woman walked in right before me and asked about an indicator light. He told her that it was her tire pressure, and rather than offer to help her, he just sent her on her way. Seriously? She was in her 70’s…send her on her way with low tires?
I would have given them zero stars … Unfortunately that was not available.
Update next day: went to a different place of business where they gave me an appt. I was in and out in ONE HOUR and the job was done extremely thoroughly. Thanks Tuffy. I got better work in less time.

Got a standard oil change ($ 30) — that went fine. They also checked wheel alignment)$ 80). So their pricey but adequate service is what the 3 stars are for. The rest hardly warrants any stars at all.
Our check engine light had been on — Tuffy’s charged $ 90 for a diagnostic, which led them to an evaporation leak of some kind. They «resolved» all of the issues by giving us a new gas cap ($ 30) and doing a fluid flush ($ 90).
They quoted us another $ 350-​$ 400 for replacing our front brake rotors that had become warped. Something told me to hold off so we could research better options. Good thing we did…
Only a few days after our checkup at Tuffy’s, the check engine light was on. We took the car back and the mechanics said that they would need to run MORE diagnostics to determine what was wrong with the car (what did we just pay $ 90 for then??). They said we would need to come back for a $ 100 smoke test to figure out where in the engine was leaking.
Again, it all seemed absurd. Instead, we found Chapin’s Auto Service that did the brake replacements for just $ 230 (replacing the front rotors AND pads with original manufacturer’s equipment). And the «leak» that «required a smoke test» was actually just a loose gas cap. Andy also took the time to explain the status of every part of the car he had inspected, he pointed out potential problems, and explained all of our options. He explained the different tiers of pricing so that we could make an informed choice.
But on Tuffy’s… Bottom line with this shop: They are clearly overpriced. And worse, they were either dishonest or incompetent.

Absolutely terrible. I could not leave without the bill being over $ 300 when they checked the vehicle out. The last time they looked at it in November was the final straw. We were told it was the alternator and battery and they quoted a price of over $ 900. If we wanted the radiator flushed that would make it over $ 1000. That just seemed extreme. I called around other mechanics and they all seemed shocked at the price. We ended up saying no but was charged over $ 100 for them looking at it. The person who gave my husband the keys back told him that he should just sell the van to some unsuspecting soul. That’s real character there. We ended up taking it to the Tuffy in Whitehall. It wasn’t even the alternator that had a problem! We received a new battery and radiator flush for $ 200. It cost ½ of that for Gahanna Tuffy to just to look at it and try to swindle us. I am so freakin’ annoyed and disappointed in them. And they used to be my go to mechanic due to their location. Definitely not anymore. I’m also telling everyone about my experience so they don’t get cheated.

These guys are great every time I bring my car in for service. I feel like I can trust them to do the work I need promptly and satisfactorily. They also go beyond what they need to to make sure I don’t forget about any regular maintenance that I otherwise would forget about. Most importantly, they give me the accurate information I need to make the right decision about how to progress with getting service done on my vehicle without pressuring me to do it. And I appreciate them for that.

I took my car in to get some new part on my not-​working wiper blades that another shop told me was broken. I was ready to have to spend a lot, as I’d looked up the part and they didn’t even make them anymore! Turns out it was a simple fix, they were very quick, and I left with working wipers without having to pay as much as I thought I’d have to! They were extremely nice and answered all my questions in a professional manner. This is definitely my new auto service shop.

I got my first flat tire of my life on Hamilton Rd. right near Tuffy today. It was a very convenient place to have it because I was able to walk in and have the man at the counter come over and help me put my spare on. I was fully prepared to have to pay for the help he gave me, and instead he said not to worry about it because he had just been watching TV inside anyway. I was very grateful as money is tight right now, and so despite not knowing what their shop service is like, I know that they’re very nice guys!

Took my car into today and they helped me right away. They were super nice. I was in and out in 30 minutes. A little hard to find because of construction but worth it!

This location of Tuffy auto centers has very professional staff and ready to help and service. Usually I would support a business that supports mine, but the level of service and Proffessioalism has to be there. I took my Mercedes in for Brake service and Mike gave many details about the work his doing without my asking.
Very prompt and efficient. Took my car in at 11:00 and got it back at 4:00. They even came by to pick me up since I could not find a ride there, which they did for me since I am a couple of miles away.
Money well spent… service you cannot top! on a Saturday.
