Asked about replacement steel for my Tacks…60 dollars was the response… Left my skates, called to see if they were done a few days later, were told they were. Asked how much for the repairs and was told«60 bucks!». Just picked them up, the repair tag said ‘owes 60.00′. The OWNER upped the charges by 5 dollars, lamenting how bad business has been. I’ll never be back.

I was jobbed at Daves in Maple Grove. Unfortunate because I like giving business to smaller businesses versus Dicks etc

I ended up at Dave’s because I couldn’t find the store that I was looking for. Lucky me… I don’t think I’ll go anywhere else for sports equipment in the future! What a great experience! I am a first year hockey dad, and moving here from Arizona I was very naïve about the whole hockey thing. We were able to get some used gear from friends, but there was a lot of stuff that we needed to buy. The sales person at Dave’s took a tremendous amount of time with us, was incredibly knowledgeable about all of the items my son would need and I never felt like I was being«sold» on anything. I hate to admit it, but I’m a pretty easy person to sell to. Explain to me why I «need» that higher priced item and chances are I’m buying it. The staff at Dave’s didn’t take advantage of that and because of that they have a new returning customer. I was looking at a hockey stick that cost $ 45 thinking, «well, that’s not THAT bad», but the stick that the salesperson grabbed and recommended was only $ 15. This same thing happened with just about every piece of equipment we picked out. It truly seemed as if they were working to earn a customer, not just a sale. I have always loved going to Sports Authority, but I will know drive the extra 5 miles to Dave’s to give them first crack at any sports equipment I buy in the future. Thank you for a great retail experience!

If you’re looking for hockey gear in the North Metro — or anywhere in the Twin Cities — Dave’s is the place. They sell gear for other sports, too: baseball, wrestling, swimming, and maybe some others, but I’ve been there only for hockey gear. I play goalie, and Dave’s does goalie gear right. The store has a large section in the back dedicated to goalie gear. There’s a huge selection of gloves, pads, C/As, pants, masks, and so on, with all of the major brands. It’s like a candy store for goalies. In addition, the people at Dave’s know how to sharpen goalie skates well, which, as my goalie brethren know, isn’t a universal skill. For the non-goalies out there, Dave’s seems to have a good stock of player gear, too. Perhaps the only downside is that the goalie equipment selection gets a little thin after the winter season, but it’s still better than anything else in the metro.
