King’s Marine

This store is the second floor of the King’s Market grocery and the name is a bit misleading. It’s really much more of a general store, with clothing from underwear to outerwear, shoes from sandals to boots, and a big selection of marine items from fishing to electronics. Compare it to the nearby Western Marine, where you’re much more likely to buy industrial strength chemicals or repair parts.
It can be expensive unless you get things on sale, exactly like Macy’s or any similar store. But it’s there when you need it, has fairly good taste in inventory and the friendly staff know their stock. We went there when the airline lost our luggage and we had to buy stuff for the weekend. Joe Fridays downstairs has the touristy stuff (and is run by the same people).

They have nice stuff, but high prices. They also wouldn’t give me a tax exemption. Perhaps too much work.

A great little tackle shop. In fact, it’s the only one in Friday Harbor. They have everything you need to go fishing and shrimping in San Juan Island. They have a great assortment of salmon fishing supplies, bottom fishing supplies, shrimping supplies, freshwater stuff, rods, reels, you name it, they have it. My favorite thing they have are the frozen herring, because that stuff is like crack to salmon and bottomfish. I always use it as bait.
Also, the staff is really nice. The lady that works in the tackle section really knows about salmon fishing, and she will answer any questions you have to ask.
