I came in late on a Thursday, service was excellent — to be fair, I was one of four occupied tables. I absolutely loved every course, I did end up ordering the Brussels Sprouts app & the chocolate hazelnut soufflé cake, which ended up making my bill a little bit pricey, but it was worth every penny! Thanks for a great first island meal!

Loved everything about this place! The ambiance was so warm, inviting and charming; perfect for a date night. The food was out of this world! Very imaginative and unique and I loved that there was such an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. Our time at Duck Soup was much more of an experience than a plain ol’ dinner, with the three courses and dessert lasting over two hours which is perfect if you’re not looking to rush out of there. If they have the blueberry peach cobbler on the menu when you’re there, it’s a must try!

Excellent food. Farm fresh plus many ingredients hand picked by the staff from the Forrest. We sadly didn’t have room for dessert.

The Duck Soup Inn offers a lovely location, attentive staff, quality ingredients, and very good culinary creations. The Brussels sprouts on their own are worth of a star, and you’ll find that each dish has the flare of creativity that would set them apart from offerings you’d find elsewhere. The restaurant is also sufficiently off the beaten path that it’s quiet and woodsy, but at the same time quite accessible from Friday Harbor(about ½ the way to Roache Harbor from Friday Harbor).

Absolutely stunning! Great service, wonderful food, great wine selection and recommendations, beautiful setting. It beat any of the restaurants in Friday Harbor or Roche Harbor by a long shot. Our taxi service there and back with San Juan Taxi was perfect — a wonderful beginning and end to a perfect evening.

One of the best dinners we have had in a long time. The king salmon was amazing and the staff was as great as it gets! Be sure to try the local coffee too, very well done. We even had two deer visit the outdoor section of the restaurant too. One of my top five restaurants of all time!

Eating in a tourist town on a summer weekend is a challenge. Always busy and locals mingle with first time visitors. Been like this for years. With the improved economy, people are even more comfy with eating out. This underpins my reluctant three star rating. Duck soup was packed and expecting so ahead of time we made a reservation. Our experience would have been improved had the management hired an extra person or called in one to work. We have a daughter who works in this biz the Seattle so we are sensitive and aware of the full situation from both management and employee perspective. When you’re charging $ 35 – 40 a plate people expect something different and excellent service. Our server must have had 50 people to take care of. Nuts. We felt for her. The four of us ordered a variety. I had the salmon, another the pork and our spouses each had the Brussels sprouts and each an order of scallops. We enjoyed a bottle of Washington red to accompany the meals. The Brussels sprouts are well portioned and well done. The salmon and pork were on the smaller side, but also nicely prepared. The salmon came with mashed potatoes. The scallops were advertised as coming with semi freddo pesto and puffed rice. Semi freddo means partially frozen, which I knew from my Italian. No prob. But the puffed rice appeared to be just cut up lundbergs brown rice cakes. The over worked server and the busy ness made for long waits between courses. I want to emphasize that this was not the servers fault as all. She was hustling. Barely had time to pee I expect. I travel over 150 nights a year to china Europe and throughout the USA. I know tourist towns are jamming in the summer. But I compare duck soup to say arrowleaf bistro in Winthrop, where we spend a lot of time. Also a tourist town. Reservations are essential at arrowleaf. You may not get served without them. This might be a way to manage the crowds and ensure a five star dining experience. People who show up without reservations either wait or are turned away. Harsh in the short term but the word get around and doing so would make for a nicer dining experience for all.

Quaint restaurant, the best place to dine on the Island in my book. Perfect romantic spot, with the wood interior and cozy seating. Everything is made fresh from scratch daily. Duck Soup Inn will deliver an unforgettable dining experience, the aromas out of the kitchen will equally follow. The Chef and Owner is sharing her dream with the World to enjoy so I highly recommend you become apart of the hype.

I love this place. I just wrote a long review declaring my love and realized I was not logged in. Tried to copy and paste but deleted instead. In a nutshell, you will never find another restaurant as good as Duck Soup Inn on SJI. It is artsy, authentic, nature-esque and filled with warmth. You will not be dissapointed – but be open minded as the menu is constantly rotating, local and daintily enhanced with edible plants that hug the shore of the San Juans. I wish I had more sea kelp and seaweed… it’s like kale chips but 10x better. Also the edible flowers with seafood are so creative and tastefully arranged.

Ambience? Check. Service? Check. Food? Check. Cocktails? Check. Wine list? Check. Highly recommend the garden area as it is just stunning. They also have blankets if you get cold. Every thing we had was good. Salmon. Fried chicken. Duck. Steak Diane. Fried brussel sprouts, pot de cream and cheesecake. Modern Mule best drink ever!

I have absolutely no idea how anybody could write ANYTHING less than a 5 star review for this place. As you walk into the rather quaint looking eatery, you are greeted by the cat, who tried many times to sneak into the restaurant throughout the night. With some of the nicest staff around, we were seated quickly and our order was taken. Don’t be fooled by the isolated surroundings, this is a fancy restaurant, so don’t come in flip flops and a tank. The food was exceptional on all accounts– size, flavor, and presentation. The steak Diane, catch of the day(sol), and duck were all tried at my table which was so quiet the whole time the plates were in front of us, simply because we couldn’t stop eating. The Brussels sprout appetizer was divine, especially the aioli dip. Definitely get a dessert, they are all fantastic. I will definitely come here again, possibly on the same visit, and will be a big draw back to the islands for future trips.
