The foods are good. I like the Vietnamese coffee, the best Vietnamese coffee in Fresno, period ! This place cooks authentic Vietnamese food, better than most Vietnamese restaurant in town. The menu is full of popular traditional foods and the price is fair. My favorite food here are Lemon Grass Chicken and Vietnamese sandwich.

May took my Phở virginity so I will always love this place. A Vietnamese friend who was an exchange student from Vietnam brought me here to introduce me to real Vietnamese phở. That was 18 years ago and the phở is still consistently good until this day. May was serving Phở before Phở became trendy. OG status.

If you know Vietnamese food— you would know that finding a good bowl of Phở is hard to find in Fresno. May Café can satisfy any craving for the traditional bowl of Phở. Although Fresno’s population of Vietnamese people is very slim compared to other cities Phở seems to be making an impact on Fresno. May Café is the best place to go to get a nice hot bowl of noodle soup for under 6 $! The service here is decent– they aren’t overbearing but at the same time they don’t ignore you. This restaurant is like any other Vietnamese joint you can find in Northern Cal or Southern Cal. The reason why it is so typical is because they have fast service and they are basically straight too it. It isn’t located on the best side of Fresno but you don’t have to worry about getting mugged or your car broken into while you eat. The parking lot is right in front of the store in plain sight. When I first moved here my family and I tried many different Vietnamese places in search for the satisfying broth. May Café was the only place that seemed to cook their Phở correctly. Coming from a Vietnamese background we knew what we were looking for! The place use to be owned by another family that made the broth taste way better but I believe they sold it to another family. The broth isn’t as good as how it use to be but it is still better than most Phở places in Fresno. Besides just asians many employees from the hospitals and also college students come to May to devour the warm broth. May Café is well-known to anyone who enjoys Phở. I suggest for first time Phở eaters to order Phở Bo Vien(Which is basically rice noodles in beef broth with beef meatballs) or Phở Tai(rice noodles in beef broth with rare steak slices that cook immediately when the broth hits it!). If you want to be a little adventurous try the Phở Dat Biet– which is the Special… or I suggest Bun Bo Hue– Which is a different kind of noodle but is basically made with beef and different seasoning– very similar to beef stew. But be care because Bun Bo Hue has a big kick to it and definitely will cleanse and clear your nose. Out of all the Vietnamese Phở places in town, May Café is my pick – they are reasonable priced and their seasoning in their soup is the closest to how Phở is really suppose to taste like.

Now that I’m stuck on Vietnamese sandwiches, I had to see what May had to offer. They use a delicious crunchy french baguette roll w/Vietnamese ham, cucumber, carrots, daikon and cllantro. Much more meat than the sandwich from Queen across the street. But the meat was milder in flavor, maybe that’s why they use more? Thought the service was slow. How long can it take to make a sandwich. .. mine took about 15 minutes.
